1. What are your present career goals?
I hope to either become a medical doctor or a physician assistant (PA). I am not sure what specialty I would like to go into. That is why I have tried to shadow as many medical professionals in different specialties as I can. UAMS is my first choice for both medical and PA school and I would love to work there too. If I become a pediatrician, then Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) would be my first choice.
2. Do you have experience in a hospital or clinic area? Please describe. (Such experience is NOT required for participation)
Yes, I have shadowed at Baptist Health Hospital for a day. I shadowed Dr. Lindberg, a Hendrix alumnus, who is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation doctor at UAMS.

I am a research assistant who performs some of the experiments on the Hendrix college students. Currently, I am part of the Narratives and Emotions (NES) study. This project is still in the data collection phase. The purpose of the project is to study the impact of a participant’s emotional state that is induced by watching one of three film clips on how receptive they are to health information that is provided to them. The health information that is provided to them will be in the form of a magazine article about a student’s personal experience with developing Type 2 diabetes. The film clips consist of a boring film clip of a man painting, a clip of a football team winning a game, and a dad who falls off a cliff right in front of his children. The student takes a questionnaire right after the quiz on how they are feeling emotionally. The lab has decided to provide a free pedometer app to the participant who will be using the pedometer for two weeks. We would like to see if different participants who watched different film clips will have a change in their fitness levels measured by the pedometer. Also, right outside of the lab is a table with brochures about various medical topics that the participant can pick up and take with them. After the data collection phase, all the research assistants will be analyzing the data …show more content…
Muscedere. Throughout the semester we worked on an experiment studying the elasticity of Pheidole majors in caring for the brood when there is a lack of minors in the subcolony. A two-week fitness experiment was done to isolate the majors from any minors in an experimental group which was compared to a control group. Behavioral assays were conducted at different intervals to compare the per capita brood care acts of naïve, 100%, and 100POST groups. Overall, the majors demonstrated their elasticity when there was a lack of minors in the subcolony even after one week back in the subcolony. The class gathered the data together and we did analyze some of the data together, but I wrote my own research paper on the experiment, and I received an A.
Also, my Genetics lab this semester is doing research on yeast with my teacher Dr. Duina. The goal of our research is to uncover the mechanisms that regulate the interaction between different proteins. The proteins that we will be looking at are histone chaperones, transcription elongation factor Spt16, and the chromatin that is contained in the RNA Polymerase II. We will be using the Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast. At the end of the semester, I will be writing a research paper on the results of our
If you are a new student and are thinking about pursuing a career in the medical field, like me, you have a lot of options. You could become a Registered Nurse, a Physician, a Physician Assistant, a Dentist, an Audiologist, an Anesthesiologist or many other professions. In this article I am going to narrow it down for you between a Physician and a Physician Assistant and I am going to tell you why I would prefer being a Physician Assistant over the highly prestigious Physician career. Physician Assistant is a relatively new career and there are many misconceptions about what individuals with this title do in the medical field.
I believe that people everywhere should always have access to adequate medical care. Where you live should not determine whether you live, and the PA profession was created to improve the availability of healthcare in rural and other underserved areas. As a PA, I would be eager to help people have not had access to the care they needed. I want to serve those that need medical attention but don’t have the means to obtain it—whether in rural Michigan, the inner-city of Atlanta, or the backwoods of Arkansas. Making great medical care accessible to all is crucial to improving public health, and it is a necessity across this country and the world. As a physician assistant,
health care team who, with doctors, provide quality care to patients. In order to do that,
Writing in Biology is different than writing in other courses like English. In Biology, the writer must conduct an experiment prior to writing a lab report on the findings. For this lab report, I had to conduct an experiment comparing the cellular respiration rates of germinating peas and non-germinating peas. Before beginning the experiment, we had to create a thesis that would state which set of peas would have the higher respiration rate, germinated or non-germinated peas. We were expected to make a thesis based on our prior knowledge of how cellular respiration works in plants. I conducted the experiment during class two weeks before the lab report was due. The experiment consisted of placing peas in a Biochamber where the levels of carbon dioxide and oxygen would be measured every 6 seconds for 3 minutes. After completing that, my instructor stressed that we repeat the experiment 5 more times for each set of peas. After collecting the data, we compare...
My lifetime goal is helping others and I plan to use my career to fulfill it. The classes I’m taking right now and the ones I’m planning to take senior year are classes I believe will influence my decision in my college major/career as well as counting toward my GPA. This will help me get into schools who have medical programs that I’m considering. Also, taking AP classes can help me save money since I can earn college credit. I’m taking all AP classes, and the electives I’m taking have been classes that have helped me consider being in the medical field. I’ve found that over the years, science and math are what I’m doing better in versus history and english. I believe by being in the medical field, I can help others in the best way I can.
With many medical careers students often get confused on what they really want to study, I have faced this problem myself and I know is not that easy due too many choices. There are many options ranging from healthcare to medical jobs. I have thoughtfully chosen to enter the program for Medical Assistant (MA). Ever since I was a child, I’ve spent most of childhood years at the Hospital, I was diagnosed with a rare condition that had to be treated continuously, this meant that I had to be going to checkups every three months so I was close to doctors, surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologist, medical assistants, etc. I remember at first I was frightened just of the thought of going to the doctor but after a few visits I got used to. The doctors and nurses were nice and caring and made me feel comfortable that I end up enjoying my doctor’s visits every time. Since then I decided I wanted to work in the medical field, this is my goal since I can remember. I have always enjoyed helping people in any way I possibly can. I chose to be a Medical Assistant because I think is great way to start my medical career going and programs are practical and not long.
I want to be a nurse, specifically a nurse practitioner. I have always been fascinated with the medical field and see a bright future in it for me. I have the opportunity of meeting new people every day with a variety of personalities. There is always something new to discover in this field. A nurse practitioner's job is to be able to diagnose and treat illnesses. They also prescribe medicine and run physical exams. I am highly interested in pursuing the career of a nurse practitioner because the healthcare field is always in need for medical professionals, it pays well, and I am helping people at the same time.
The purpose of the first study was to do two things. To demonstrate a tech...
I have known from an early age that I’ve wanted to become a doctor. Helping people has always been a passion of mine. When I was younger, I wanted to be a veterinarian. However, after working with young children I have found that I love working with them, and have a connection with children. Currently, I am interested in becoming either a neonatologist or a general pediatrician so I can continue to work with young children.
Since starting this class, introduction to health care, I have begun to think about what the future holds for me and what I will pursue with my college degree. At this point in time my career goal is to become a physician assistant in orthopedic surgery. I plan on working in a hospital setting where I can continue to learn and practice my profession. Five years after all my schooling and achieving my license, professionally I see myself working at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, New York, which is a teaching hospital. I would be working on and with patients, while still learning as I practice my previous knowledge. I would be seeing patients with injuries such as an ankle sprain, evaluating x-rays, and possibly sitting on and
In the future, I hope to pursue my career dream of becoming a pediatrician. Pediatricians can be identified individuals who specialize in giving medical care to children and adolescents between infancy to adulthood at eighteen years of age. I became inspired to become a pediatrician due to my immense love of children. Perhaps I have an innate intuition for taking care of people being that I have always felt that I excel at taking care of others. The idea of taking care of others truly makes me feel that I serve a purpose, not only to better the life of myself but the life of others. Therefore, I believe that becoming a pediatrician will help me combine the best of both worlds into a career that I adore and cherish.
The first experiment that DeVoe and House (2012) conducted was to directly test their hypothesis. The procedure of this experiment was to take 53 undergraduate students (32 femal...
While attending college, it is my ultimate goal to become a doctor, either a podiatrist, radiologist, or plastic surgeon. I intend to earn my undergraduate degree at the University of Florida, majoring in chemistry. Then, I plan to attend medical school at the University of Florida, as well. After completing a residency in my specialty, I would like to begin a medical practice somewhere in central Florida.
The experiment given by Aronson and Cope tested the attractiveness and punishments given by a person based on their relationship with another person. Forty male and forty female were randomly assigned to get a harsh experimenter and pleasant experimenter, harsh experimenter and harsh supervisor, pleasant experimenter and pleasant supervisor, or pleasant experimenter and harsh supervisor. The people who participated in the experiment thought they were participating in a study on creativity. The college students had to write a creative story on each picture that they were shown. The graduate student, who was the experimenter, always had a negative reaction to their stories but was either considerate about letting them know or was really harsh and rude about informing the students about their not creative stories. Then the experimenter would put his foot on the on the vent in the room and that would signal the supervisor to come interrupt the session to let the experimenter know if they had done a good job or bad job on the research that he had been conducting. This research is ba...
Research is a pathway which leads to more progression in our world, especially in the fields of medicine and psychology. Despite the need for progression, and the benefits it produces, research can be complex and in some cases damaging. Not every research method is beneficial in every form of study. This is why it is essential to carefully evaluate the gains and costs of each research method, including descriptive research and experimental research. In my essay I will be clarifying their definitions and exploring their strengths and challenges in greater detail.
