I often find myself pondering how we can coexist with the environment. Because of the amount of advancement we have had as a society, there is no way we could return to the caveman days and live off the land. So we must find a way for our new society to fit in with the rest of the world. This is the reason I decided to become an environmental engineer. I knew I wanted to do something purposeful and I had initially thought I wanted to go into physical therapy. However, physical therapy did not capitalize on my strengths—math, science, and attention to detail. I therefore decided to pursue a profession that would not only make use of my strength in STEM subjects, but also help solve a problem I had been aware of for a long time. When deciding
on a career I felt that it was my civic duty to make use of the hard work I have put in during high school. I felt that I had created an opportunity for myself to truly do something great in the world and I needed to make use of this opportunity. A personality trait that I find is very strong within me is a lack of extremity. In arguments, I am often the mediator because I find it important to see both sides. A career in environmental engineering is mediating between the environmentalist society and the progressive one. This career is constantly creating ways for humans to creatively coexist with our environment and its inhabitants. As someone who has the ability to pursue this difficult career, it is my responsibility to take advantage of my skills. It is my responsibility to take an active role in helping combine the two aspects of human life: civilization and the wild instinct.
In “Curbing Overconsumption: Challenge for Ethically Responsible Engineering,” professor E.J. Woodhouse discusses modern overconsumption, and claims that engineers should be responsible for aiding the environment. At one point, he asks, “if it is technically feasible to arrange consumption far more efficiently, […] does that imply that the engineers who help arrange the wasteful approaches are violating certain ethical standards?” (24). Woodhouse claims that it is the ethical role of engineers to use their positions and resources to decrease the waste production of American overconsumption. Meanwhile, in “Individualization: Plant a Tree, Buy a Bike, Save the World?” professor Michael Maniates discusses modern environmentalism, and in particular
“The doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet and in the cause and prevention of disease” by Thomas A. Edison. Chiropractors use hands-on spinal manipulation and other alternative treatments on the spine which will enable the body to heal itself without surgery or medication. Chiropractic care began in 1895 when its founder, Daniel David Palmer, claimed any and all diseases could be healed by nothing more than just his hands. Dr. Palmer examined a janitor who was deaf for 17 years after the janitor felt his back was out of place, so Dr. Palmer gave an adjustment to what was felt to be a misplaced vertebra in the upper back. The janitor then observed that his hearing improved thanks to Dr. Palmer. Chiropractors use manipulation to restore mobility to joints restricted by tissue injury caused by sitting without proper back support. Chiropractic is primarily used as a pain relief alternative for muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissue, such as cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. About 22 million Americans visit chiropractors annually
Imagine going up for the perfect lay-up, you make the shot but when you land you twist awkwardly and land on your knee. Laying on the ground, you feel the pain surging through your knee, the first line of defense is an athletic trainer, however if this accident happened when you fell on a wet kitchen floor you could expect much the same care from a physical therapist Athletic Trainers are the first to respond to sport related in game injuries, and provide care after injuries. In contrast physical therapist are not only there to fix accidental injuries, and treat chronic bone and joint they help with plans of care and rehabilitation for athletes and non-athletes after injuries. Physical Therapy play a important role in todays healthcare. Physical Therapy are experts of improving and storing motion , they contribute to their patients ‘ quality of life by keeping them healthy , fit , active and in medications . The first school of Modern Physical Therapy opened in Boston, MA , So Physical Therapy have been around for a long time. The Physical Therapy Association Organized by Mary McMillan. It later became the American Physical Therapy Association.World War ll brings changes to Physical Therapy was done at hospitals as patients recovered from injuries , surgeries or other ailments.
Occupational therapy was a career choice I fell into. When I first arrived to Keiser University back in 2009 I was going to apply for the physical therapy assistant program. Physical and speech therapy where the only therapeutic disciplines I had any knowledge of at that time. When I met with the admissions counselor she informed me the waiting list for the PTA program was about two years, I was floored I wasn’t going to wait that long I needed to start school ASAP. The counselor then asked me “ what is your goal?” and my response was “to work with children in the medical field without being too medically involved”. She then handed me an occupational therapy pamphlet and I just signed the paper work to start that month. I honestly
This paper explores some of the manual therapy methods, and the effects on which different parts of the human body. While the paper focus more on the positive effects of the different styles of manual therapy, the paper also explores any available reports on any risk of adverse events involving with manual therapies. Carnes, Mars, Mullinger, Froud, and Underwood (2010) suggest taking drug therapy causes a greater risk than with manual therapy. According to A. Bokarius and V. Bokarius (2010), “manual therapy is a widely used method for managing such conditions, but to date, its efficacy has not been established (p. 451). The purpose of this paper is to define what manual therapy is and offers some examples of manual therapy techniques
Physical therapy is an exceptional career choice for anyone. Therapists often only work weekdays, and get paid about seventy to ninety thousand dollars per year. Though therapists make an above average salary, many have become greedy and are seeking more money from patients. Audits have discovered that therapists have unethically been charging patients for treatments they never received and overcharging their bills in an unethical manner.
It takes a unique individual to want to become a Physical Therapist. These professionals have a lot of personal traits that are a must need to excel in the Physical Therapy field. A Physical therapist could be faced with a patient/client that might be angry, sad, or confused, so being able to relate to these individuals is a great quality all therapist must have. These personal traits are skills like being relaxed and determined, supportive, and of course knowledgeable.
Occupational therapy is a career focused on helping people who have or are at risk for developing an illness, injury, disease, disorder, condition, impairment, disability, activity limitation, or participation restriction. An OT’s scope of practice may involve addressing “the physical, cognitive, psychosocial, sensory, and other aspects of performance to support engagement in everyday life activities that affect health, well-being, and quality of life” (Definition of Occupational Therapy Practice for the AOTA Model Practice Act, 2017). I don’t feel like occupational therapy is the right career for me because I feel like I lack certain characteristics that someone in this profession should have.
Politics can also prove to be an obstacle to pollution prevention. When the environmental manager develops a solution, it requires the engineers and operators to work together. Engineers are often younger and lack the advanced interpersonal skills needed to solicit and obtain help from operators. Operators are older and generally do not relay possible improvements to the engineers.
“Where am I? How did I get here?” is what many stroke patients say after recovering from an acute or severe stroke. A stroke is also known as a cerebrovascular accident, a life-threatening event where the brain is deprived of adequate oxygen. A physical therapist’s duty is to provide assistance and education that will help patients rehabilitate and return to a normal routine. As of today, there is a new treatment called treadmill training with partial body weight support that facilitates recovery of a patient’s ability to walk sooner after a surgery. Is the expense for treadmill training with partial body weight support which includes expensive equipment and constant physical therapy supervision worth it if it decrease the amount of time it takes a person to get better? Is it ultimately more efficient than traditional physical therapy? My argument will state that treadmill training with partial body weight support is worth the expense and provides better techniques than traditional physical therapy.

Environmental engineers do everything from cleaning up a small pond to taking on projects to clean the oceans. It is an interesting occupation and one of the most important out there. Without these professionals, the Earth, nations, and people wouldn’t be what they are and who they are today. Everyone and everything would be living in a disgusting and polluted planet. Environmental engineers change the outcome with the work they do. A profession in the field of environmental engineering can often involve long periods of work with no breaks, projects that bring new responsibilities along with stress, and constantly changing work environments, but anyone who loves the environment, wants to live on a clean Earth, and wants to create a better and
Along side the demand for pollution correction, is the desire to create a sustainable future for the generations to come. Throughout human existence, people have trained and refined their youth in hope that their offspring could live a better life than they once did. Consciousness regarding our involvement with the temperamental cli...
Along with taking care of themselves, people should also take the welfare of the environment into consideration. If the current treatment continues, the longevity of the environment will rapidly decrease causing multiple problems. Although many people don’t think about what they do to harm the environment, environmental engineers take it upon themselves to accomplish certain tasks such as sampling soils and creating ways to dispose of waste properly in order to preserve the life span of the environment.
With an evolving world and growing population, environmental engineers are constantly faced with challenges to design and manage systems that help utilize our natural resources without degrading our earth. I want to be faced with these challenges head on, with my passion for the environment and ability to solve unknowns; I am destined to become an environmental engineer.
