In 2015-2016 only 542,583 players played the game of hockey. On the other hand, 1.23 million kids ages 6-12 played football and 6.6 million kids played soccer (www.usahockey.com,www.skylinesoccer.org),www.espn.com). Children should be able to have a variety of sports and not be forced to play a certain sport because it's the only sport around them. This is why we need to help USA Hockey expand youth hockey and rinks across the country because it will popularize the sport and make it more accessible. Auston Matthews, the number one pick of the 2016 Nhl draft, native to Phoenix Arizona, was 6 years old when he started the game,but there was only a couple dozen hockey rinks in the Phoenix metro area; but there was plenty of baseball fields near his house when he was a kid (https://www.nytimes.com). That means that there could have been a good chance that one of the Nhl’s best rookie players could be playing another sport such as baseball or football because it was the only sport close enough to his house. Take football into consideration.Every state in the United States have high school football teams (http://www.maxpreps).There are 1,083,617 high school football players that can be eligible for college football at different levels (http://www.ncaa.org). Then from college they can be eligible for pro ball such as the NFL. Now going back to every state having college football that means that there has to be football fields in those towns were these kids grew up playing football. Now, the idea of having hockey rinks and youth hockey leagues in every state in the US. That means that their could be millions of or maybe hundreds of thousands of hockey players eligible for college hockey, the NHL, or maybe even the Olympic
