During election time in the United States, it can be very difficult on how to choose a president who will lead our country, in the “right” direction. The Presidential Election is a huge deal to Americans, people have parties, celebrations, galas and balls. This election is not just a two-day thing, it goes on for months at a time and is televised for the majority of those months. As citizens of the Unites States, we see overly-staged commercials, phony advertisements, and overall, lies, on who would make the “better” president during the months prior to November, right before the election on the 2nd. With the many presidents, the United States has had, there has been a show of both good and poor leadership. Use the last President, Barack Obama for example, personally, I believe that he was a very admirable leader because of his undeniable urge to help all people in America, whether black or white, rich or poor, he wanted to create a better place for all citizens of the United …show more content…
As of now, our new President, Donald Trump, has not been showing the best character traits to be a great leader. In a multitude of occasions, Trump has been immature, too quick to judge, and too interested in tweeting about all the changes he hopes to make, that he has not yet attempted. When choosing a president, you need to look at who you think will lead the nation with positivity, someone who is capable of handling the unthinkable, someone who is always ready, and someone who shows a deep love and understanding to the citizens of this country. With these characteristics, the President can insure his people that he will perform well in the office. The premise of Barber's argument in The Presidential Character is that he believes presidential personalities fall into four categories and combinations of activity, passivity, positivity, and negativity and those personality combinations can be indicative of presidential
...omeone who is going to be a leader , someone who is like Abraham Lincoln and is honest and is a strong chararcter. So many things have changed from when abraham Lincoln was president to now. Being president is no easy job there are going to be up's and down's , being a leader of the United States takes a lot of effort and support for everyone in office. When American's vote for a president they pick between two canidates , they want someone who can be trusted and be a leader but sometime's the people running they say they will do this and that but when they get elected it's a whole different ball game. I wish we could have another president who has the characteristics like Abraham Lincoln and can put stuff back to normal and someone who can be trusted and keep there promises. My opinion will always be Abraham Lincoln was the greatest president to ever step in office.
Every leader had to start somewhere; they all had to have a reason to become a great leader. They have developed strong attributes to overcome their struggles and challenges. Great leaders like Harriet Tubman and Emily Murphy, who have had the courage to take action in the world and have had great confidence to achieve their goals. They are among the people, who through centuries have made a difference. Who have fought for their rights and surpassed difficult obstacles in their lives to complete their goals; taking leadership and making a difference in the world as well as overcoming challenges others could not.
James D. Barber is a man who explains to us how we should elect a president. He bases his analysis on the candidate’s character. The character can be, the way this individual views the world. It can be the style of government; it can also be the way this individual relates to others. With this theory, James has created a typology. This typology has four categories, Active positive described as the “best” president. Second, Active-negative described as the “worst” president. Third, Passive-positive described as a weak president. Last, passive- negative also described as a weak president. James has evaluated many presidents and placed them in this typology like, JFK, Bush, Eisenhower, Hoover, Wilson, Reagan and many more. It is fair to
Overall, one person must define the criteria of what makes a good leader or president. Andrew Jackson was a complicated president. He did not make the best decisions for the country, regarding the South and Native Americans, yet he did many great things, like pay off the country’s national
Throughout the history of the United States there has been extraordinary individuals both in business and government that have demonstrated their abilities to be affective leaders among the people in which they are in charge of. There are many definitions of what a leader is and what characteristics a leader should have. One man that demonstrates all aspects of a leader and that has been deemed on the list of one of the greatest presidents who has ever served respectfully belongs to Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Throughout history, there have been great leaders, some for the good of humanity, and some for the not-so good of humanity. The one element all leaders have in common is in some way, have changed the course of history. The one great leader I have found to be interesting and envision of a great leader is William Bradford, an original passenger on the Mayflower, and the first ever governor elected on what is to become, American Soil.
Throughout our country’s great history, we have seen a number of great, effective leaders. With that said, it is no easy task to narrow down to a few, the qualities that made and make these men and women so incredibly talented. Great leadership is essential to the well being of any populace, and, undoubtedly, the United States has seen some of the greatest leaders of any country. The qualities that our greatest leaders demonstrate are those such as courage, whether in the face of danger or in the turmoil of the political arena; humility, the essential humbleness that encourages the trust of the people and assures you are a leader of sound judgment and respect; and, of course, passion, the driving force behind innovation, the ambition to
Have you ever wondered why Donald Trump’s rallies are so popular amongst young adults? They can be hard to distinguish from a WWF event, with row upon row of folks screaming and carrying on. There must be a draw, as this demographic is clearly riled up and fired up over something. That something is anger. Young adults are angry, especially the ones called “The Millennials,” and Donald Trump 's message speaks to their anger and frustration. They are angry because, for them, life is just not fair. It doesn’t matter that they have degrees or come from good homes; at the end of the day they are still debt-strapped, overworked and underpaid. They are working hard and putting in long hours, yet they can hardly afford a roof over their
However, not all of the expectations come from outside the White House. Not only does the public hold expectations of the job that the president must do, but also the president has expectations for himself developed over the campaign or even their entire political career. The president must meet the needs of the masses while meeting the needs of himself. The public wants a president who is actively working on problems and producing solutions that are visible. Lastly, the public expects the president to be genuine. A president who cannot fulfill promises is a president with low approval. According to Barber, there are four personality types that define presidential character. They are: active-positive, passive-positive, active-negative, and passive-negative. Active-positive presidents are defined by high self-esteem and productivity. Active-negative presidents are characterized by a lot of effort, but relatively low sense of self. Passive-positive presidents are defined by a high self-esteem, but rely on others to get work done. Finally, passive-negative presidents are defined by a low approval and low work
“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him” (G.K. Chesterton). A soldier is a soldier no matter what. If they fight behind a screen, on the front line, or from a controller as long as they’re protecting this country, the people in it, and the people fighting for it they are honorable. Some think that because one does their fighting from a remote control drone means that they have no understanding of war, and in some ways that is true, but they are still taking someone’s life when they choose to press that button just like the solders on the front line takes someone’s life when they pull the trigger. Both people are fighting the same fight: they love the country they are defending the people in it they just do it from different standpoints. Drones
One of the more exemplary leaders that we have studied so far would be General Hal Moore. Constantly putting himself before others and ensuring that everyone take care of each other made him an icon for the perfect leader. The most prominent example occurred when he and his men were called to duty. Moore delivered a speech to his men
In the year 1789, the first presidential election took place under the new constitution. The changes between then and now are too many to count. There have been amendments to the constitution, technology has enhanced, communication is better, strategies have grown and the world is a different place. In every election, each president had his or her own strengths and weaknesses of their time. In the presidential election of 2012 between Obama and Romney, many economic and personal characteristics held importance on Election Day. In this research paper, I will look at the issues that voters had and discuss how each candidate addressed them. I will also share other important information that contributed to the outcome of the election.
In my opinion, being a good leader firstly he should be able to take full advantage of favorable circumstance, able to rule the country under a chaotic situation. Besides he made attractive promises to gain popular support, skilled in using of propaganda, amoral. Moreover he should have the organizational ability and has the ambition to make his country powerful in the world. In addition, he could use his words to twist and manipulate the minds of people into believing that what he was saying. Using this power, he could get people to do anything for him, which prove his amorality. He should be skillful in carry out successful policy to bring the country to economic prospect, since economy is very important to a country.
Throughout history, there have been leaders who are considered as admirable due to positive influences over other individuals. For example, in my opinion, Abraham Lincoln was able to influence the masses of people because he chose to think and behave differently from other leaders before him. When a person is considered as a leader, there are several responsibilities and qualities that will attract others to follow after the teachings that are demonstrated. Leadership can be described as the process for “guiding individuals, groups, and entire organizations in establishing goals and sustaining action to support goals (Shockley-Zalabak, 2015, p. 220). Additionally, each leader will usually have a distinctive
In my view most important character of a good leader is that they must be compassionate. Having a personality of caring about people is important. You can?t be a good leader unless you generally like people. That is how you bring out the best in them. No matter what credential they have and how much experience they have in administration but without being compassionate they can't ever become a responsible and successful leader. For example Hitler is known for his cruelty and he had no feelings for his own race. He failed to understand the feelings of Jews and thus persecuted them. He also failed to know the fact that the strength of his country lies in them, while opposite is Mahatma Gandhi, a major political and spiritual leader of India, followed nonviolent actions, avoiding any bloodshed in the country during their struggle for Independence. Because of his compassionate nature many leaders in today's world has looked him upon. So leader must be compassionate first without being influence by any ulterior motive.
