One Friday the 13th, four friends; Anna, Mika, Ella, and Jordan decided that they needed a break from school and life so they decide to go on a weekend road trip. They made a couple of reservations and then they were off. They were excited to hangout since school had been keeping them from seeing each other regularly. All four girls were in AP classes so homework and was very stressful on them. The last time they had all hung out together was 4 weeks ago. At 4 o'clock they left there hometown of Andersonville. They were only traveling about an hour to there neighboring city of Louisville. Little did they know that this trip would be an adventure just waiting to happen. Their first stop needed to be the local gas station. They waited in line for 30 minutes only to find out that the gas station was out of gas. Andersonville was a very small city, about 7,000 people and obviously everyone was leaving to go out of town all at the same time. They knew that only a couple miles up the road was a gas station so they thought, “why not, its not too far up …show more content…
The girls were talking so much and catching up that they forgot to stop and eat. So they compromised on going to Chick-Fil-A since it was fast, easy, and cheap. This was one of there go-to restaurants that they would hang out at. Once they had finished eating they knew that they needed to get back on the road. According to Google maps, there hotel was 10 minutes away. At 7:00 p.m. they arrived at Embassy Suites. They checked in at the front desk only to discover that their reservations hadn't gone through. The women at the front desk told them that because of a local music festival there were no rooms available. The only room left was $1,000 a night, and because none of them had jobs there was no way to afford that amount of money for one night. They were so
Today many people have a very fixed view about others in different countries, and what the locals from those countries think about Americans. America was formed so people from other cultures could come and make a life for themselves, and so they could come and enjoy the traditions and ways of America. If people could stop and think about all the good things that other countries have to offer instead of all the bad that the media shows, they could learn to appreciate those countries better. People need to be more open minded about going to other countries because without travel there would be no way of learning about other cultures.
There is this teenage girl name Leah who lived in New York, she was ending her first year of high school as a freshman at Flushing High School. On the last month of classes around June she was hanging around with her best friend Henry. After class, they would hang out together and go to the city to explore and waste time, but there was one thing Leah had to tell Henry, her family had to move to Mexico because her parents thought that they will have a better life. So Leah had to leave with them. She told Henry about her moving with her family to Mexico, so they decided to go out to places before she left. They went out to the theatres, walked around the city, and get something to eat like Burger Kings or McDonalds. It was soon Leah had to leave,
Life on the Road It’s fair to say that life on the road is something most people do not desire, as a way to live out their days; but a young man named Chris McCandless believed it was necessary to avoid the venomous grips of society. McCandless goes as far as to venture out to the rest of the United States and even crossing borders to achieve his true destination, Alaska. He shows us living such a life can hold many unique and wonderful experiences.
The kids ask Stanley why they sent him to the camp and he tells them it was his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. He was unjustly convicted of stealing Clyde Livingston?s cleats from a shelter. Stanley was walking when they just fell from the sky and hit him on the head, he took them and started to run home when the police pulled him over and thought he had stole them. Stanley pleaded his case to the court but they didn?t believe and it was Camp Green Lake or jail, as any sane kid would, he picked the camp.
Hello, today I would like to start off by telling you a story. Three years ago on a trip coming back from Hot Springs, my friend and I were in a car accident. My friend had dozed off, and when I looked up to see what was going on we were in the other lane. We swerved out of the way but still hit the vehicle in front of us. I sustained a broken right leg and two dislocated fingers. My friend and the other driver sustained only minor injuries. I now have a titanium rod in my leg and can’t run long distances. This is something that happens too often. How often have you gotten off work after going to school and taking care of all the daily things that are necessary and you were exhausted? Two or three times a week, maybe more? All of us have things that make us tired. Drowsy driving is dangerous, but it is something preventable. Today, I would like to convince you to not drive while drowsy by stating the problems/dangers of driving while
It is July 4, 1969 in Vallejo California, Darlene Ferrin picks up Mike Mageau from his house and are heading to a Mr. ED`s a burger and fries restaurant. Most if not all teens look forward to several events in their life. One of those events are getting a driver's license. This small piece of plastic is their ticket to freedom. This ticket is more than just freedom to be able to drive their friends around but also freedom from the ritual of their parents having to drive them everywhere and embarrass them in public. Also this is a freedom to the parents as well they may save more on gas from not having to drive their children around. However, some teens are not as safe as they possibly could be if they were to take a few steps to promote good driving habits. This is evident in the article “Teen Driving”, as the author gives the reader teen driving statistics, as well as explanations of programs and steps that can improve teen driving.
‘Confront scourge of sexual abuse, stand up for children, Inuit leaders demand ‘, is an article written by Kristy Kirkup, who reports the impact on indigenous people of Canada due to the disregard and lack of respect from the government for years. Indian residential school systems are disastrous mistakes that wreaked havoc on Canada’s Aboriginal groups. It later, lead to the tragedy that many aboriginal parents do not know how to treat their children in a good way. Abuse, including physical, sexual, emotional, is one of most serious and common issues that still affects several aboriginal communities. Indigenous leaders and victims told The Canadian Press the level of abuse in some communities is shockingly high, although there is limited data that indicate exactly how pervasive the problem is across the country. Sexual abuse had gone through residential schools over several generations. The cycle abuse is continuing to infect subsequent generations in recent years. Prominent Inuit politicians are urging Canada’s leaders who recognize the importance of the
Summer had just begun; we were enjoying our first few stress free weeks of summer, speaking of summer assignments we received and vacations that were going to be had. It must’ve been at least two in the afternoon since I never get up before noon during the months I have off from my education, but my best friend and I had been hanging out for a while leading up to the trip to Dunkin’ Donuts. We were just minding our own business when abruptly, my friend quivered in her seat, her eyes wide with fright.
It has become obvious that some people cannot drive without having some form of anger at other drivers. These people are usually patient and kind outside of their vehicles; but as soon as they start up their car, a strange phenomenon begins- Road rage. How can kind natured people have road rage? Is there something about driving that makes people tick? A few doctors and psychologists have found answers behind this problem, and some of the answers are quite shocking.
People around the world are constantly moving from place to place. Whether that place is work, a restaurant, or home, people require a means of transportation in order to arrive at a desired destination safely and efficiently. One of the most used means of transportation today are cars. Cars play an important role in the world’s economy by transporting goods and people. Automobiles have come a long way since Ford’s first Model T, and the auto industry plans to further enhance the technology and capabilities of the cars that drive on our roads. New technological advancements like rear-view camera, self parking, and auto braking have greatly improved the overall safety of cars today. However, one of the most talked about ideas are autonomous
Summer vacation is legendary. An integral part of American culture, it is loved by students and loathed by parents. Its influence stretches as far as the economy and media of the country. Nevertheless, such a famed part of American educational customs is unnecessary and even detrimental to students. Its institution hinders learning and it can have a damaging effect on the families and students involved.
What are virtual field trips? According to Kirchen (2011) “A virtual field trip (VFT) is a technology-based experience that allows children to take an educational journey without leaving the classroom" (p.22). VFTs can take students all over the world. Teachers have the opportunity to create VFTs that connect to the curriculum. While teachers are able to create their own VFT, there are also trips available for free online. VFTs can be used in any classroom, including early childhood classrooms (grades pre-k to 2nd). Technology does not need to be the most advanced for teachers to be able to implement VFT into their classroom. Lukes (2014) mentioned that VFT can be used using “a relatively low-techs solution that would work on any computer

There is nothing quite like traveling, going someplace new and finding out more about the world and yourself. Anyone can become a traveler it just takes a little bit of faith and courage.
