Technology in Schools. Yes or No? In recent years technology has been introduced to students all over the United States. Some people see this change as exciting, and believe that it is going to lead to a more successful working class. However introducing technology into the classroom is causing more bad than good. As technology enters the classrooms of current middle and high school students, many problems are arising, students, who grew up around television and cell phones, are developing smaller attention spans, the amount of information is overwhelming the students who already have more on their plate than they can handle, also there is no quality control, which opens doors for dangerous and illegal activities, although technology does …show more content…

Children and young adults, especially high school students have very fulfilled lives( jobs, sports, friends, etc.). Adding technology and all the information that comes with technology is overwhelming. Even without technology the magazines, CDs, videotapes,books,etc is already overwhelming kids(Source E). When you add the massive income of information from the web kids can not handle or contain all the information. For teachers, and students, the sense of time has changed. Is it because we cram more into each hour, or because the next person over is cramming more into their hour? Technology is believed to help a child in many ways. However, it may be hurting their imagination. When growing up with technology a child is spoon fed information, and it is hurting their imagination. From a young age children are having information shoved down their throat through video, audio, flashing screens and toys, etc. All these things could seriously hurt a child 's ability to process information by themselves ( Source C). A person could be glancing at one site and with a click of the mouse you could be walking into a dating site or something worse. The internet is full of first class information, which is beneficial to many, it also is full of propaganda and pornography. While the internet offers many great opportunities is has no quality control (Source E).
Technology also offers a more time efficiant world. The web allows us to do things in less time, however, it causes older, slower ways of doing things seem harder, and more out of reach. Steven Johnson said that even writing down a note on a piece of paper feels strained, he has to think about it before he does it. Writing an entire book by hand is odd and would feel like shooting Citizen Kane with a camcorder. Handwriting and other basic, old skills are declining due to technology.
