Personal safety
When you are working alone at the practice, you should lock all external doors. If a client asks to be let in, you should be absolutely certain they are genuine before you let them in. In this situation, you should phone the veterinary surgeon and ask the client to wait outside. Most practices have panic buttons in reception, so if the need arises you should press it and telephone the police. The safety of yourself and your colleagues is very important, so you should not take risks.
Another way to help the safety of staff in a veterinary practice are the use of safety signs. They are important as they inform and warn people of possible hazards. By law, safety signs are grouped into four categories:
