Coming up with a good idea for a project is the hardest part of science fairs. You want to have one that will be educational, fun to carry out, and interesting enough to those who see the display. However, once you do arrive at the right idea, you'll be on your way. It's helpful to know what other people are doing though, whether you're in the fifth grade or Junior High. This can give you a nice jump start as you get ready for the fair. Of course, you might take an idea and add your own unique twist to it as well.
One interesting experiment for Junior High science fairs is to compare how efficiently different solar ovens operate during different months. It's useful because of the fact that it allows students to understand that solar power is better for the environment. They'll enjoy cooking different foods throughout the entire project and they'll be proud to display their results when the fair rolls around. Of course, if the students are interested in botany they might consider testing different human hormones on plants and noting the difference it makes on their growth. A variation of that is to experiment with different types of foods.

One lesson I found that I would like to report on is called “Sampling the Solid Earth” and is a unit project. This is a very organized plan, that states the materials needed, how to plan, different steps to building the project, and ways of assessment. What is expected in the project is clear, but I would say that the goals and objectives are not clearly stated in the plan. The lesson is tied in with National Science Education Standards, and the project connects with life science. There does not seem to be a variety of teaching methods within the project, although the lesson seems to be both discovery and teacher-directed. I decided that for the science lessons I would teach I would focus on Biological Evolution: Unity and Diversity. This states that students need to learn more about the diversity in different habitats. I chose this one because I think it is important for students to visit different areas and learn more about them even if it is through videos and books. They need to see what lies beyond our city and close surrounding.
My social experiment, took way too much thought to complete. I could not think about what I should do for this project until about noon on that beautiful Sunday.
