During my placement at Reagan Elementary I realized that not much science was taught in the classes. Most of the science they did was done in relationship to reading or Language Arts. I think that this is a great way to incorporate a subject into the classroom if specific time cannot be allotted for science alone. Science is a very important topic that needs to be taught to students. It expands their knowledge about the world around them, how it works, the diversity that can be found in our planet and much more. Our country is a scientific and technology one and students need to be able to function. I decided that for the science lessons I would teach I would focus on Biological Evolution: Unity and Diversity. This states that students need to learn more about the diversity in different habitats. I chose this one because I think it is important for students to visit different areas and learn more about them even if it is through videos and books. They need to see what lies beyond our city and close surrounding.
In order to successfully teach this science mini unit I prepared my self. I did research to learn the topic and be able to prepare detailed lesson plans; this also prepared me to be able to answer their questions. As it can be seen in the lessons in the portfolio I created an objective that match the standard and from there I made sure that the input would lead the students to meet the goal. I made sure to have guided practice and independent practice in my lesson in orders for the students to learn from my modeling and then put it into practice
