Autobiography: Hailey Beyrand’s Science Journey
Throughout kindergarten to fifth grade I really do not have many memories of science in class. This may be from me simply not remembering, but I believe it is due to the incredible integration of my elementary school. There were no certain blocks of time dedicated to certain subject, all the subjects fed off each other and were more a cohesive gaining of knowledge of all subjects rather than focusing on one. In my current schooling I have learned how hard it can be to integrate all the subjects together, but my elementary school did it seamlessly which is a goal I will constantly be striving for. One of my favorite memories from my elementary school days was the science fairs. Each year I would

But that year was biology and we were able to do so many school in class projects like dissecting a squid and using its ink pouch to write my name, catching bugs then killing them and pinning them to egg cartons and working on classifications. For a bunch of 12 year olds all the learning we did was through actually doing the science or looking at real live/dead things. This I found to be the best way to learn. Actually working with the thing we were learning about did not only engage each student much more, but it made science fun and a class to look forward to each …show more content…
If you excelled and enjoyed science as I did in high school, there was nothing that could further your learning until you were able to take AP classes as a junior. Taking away from my early high school experience I would know that not all teachers really put forth an effort. There are some teachers who are there to get their paycheck and do the bare minimum necessary to provide their students with enough exit knowledge so they don’t fail next year. Teachers like this make it hard for students to care about the subject they are in. The biggest lesson a future teacher can gain from this is no matter what you may think, your attitude toward your class is important, if you don’t care your students will follow your lead and not care either. Moving on to my college years, I was a nursing major for 2 years. My classes consisted of Into Organic Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Micro Biology, Nutrition and many more. As challenging as the course work as, I loved every second of it. My teachers were all extremely passionate about their fields and the laboratories were so incredibly interesting (especially Medical Micro Biology). Now being an education major with an emphasis in English, I am only required to take three science course, which I am taking them all this semester and so far I am really enjoying them
I've always loved learning, especially math. Math has always come easy to me. Science also has never been challenging enough so I took Chemistry this year and I am planning to take physics next years. Chemistry is very challenging for me and I've had thoughts of dropping out of it, but I pushed myself and forced myself not to give
The view of nursing is now more in depth and well rounded than before attending this class. Also, I now have a better understanding that scientific knowledge has a huge impact on nursing. Before taking these specific classes this semester I did not realize how much of a role science played in the nursing career. This quarter has really shown me that a nurse is not a "task monkey." The most surprising thing that I learned this semester was the abundance of knowledge that a nurse has to have in variety of areas such as assessment, legal, risk prevention, and educator just to name a few. As I make my journey through nursing school to expert nurse, I will always remember my instructors and dean continuously repeating that I must choose
Section E was the best group and we enjoyed every class together. I had Mrs. Zambetti. Mrs. Prisco, Mr. Perrotti, Mr. Justave, and Mrs. Rosiak who were all the most wonderful teachers. I’ll never forget Egypt Day when Shealyn and I made an amazing diorama of the Nile River, dressed up as Egyptians in togas, and put eyeliner on all the girls, even Dominick who could not get it off and had to keep it on for the rest of the day. It was so funny! Mediterranean Day was also very fun as we ate all types of Mediterranean foods such as humus, pita bread, grapes, baklava, and more. Of course our Athens vs. Sparta field day competition was full of fun as we raced each other around the pond and played various games. Sixth grade was a yet another great year and one that I really
I observed a first-grade science lesson at Moore Elementary in Pasadena ISD on a Monday February 5, 2018 from 1-3pm. The class is a general education with 11 boys and 10 girls in the class it also has a five ESL (English as the Second Language) students. In the lesson the students were learning about the four different seasons. The first thing the teacher did to introduce the lesson was have the students watch a brain pop video about the four seasons. After the video the teacher went over the different seasons and asked the students what season we are currently and what season come next until they have covered all four seasons. Next, the teacher had the students do two different interactive board activities. The first interactive board activity
I got a Twix from that. So anyway there was ALP, Oceanography and March Madness. But the best part of the year was Science Camp. That’s right the all too well known science camp. The infamous Chapel Rock with the challenging, thrilling, and forty foot high rock wall and zipline, which I was the one with the honor of going on first, the steep, switch back full, falcon filled mountain which we hiked. We
That was my very very very favorite year because I had the best teachers ever. My homeroom was Mrs. Webers. She was the best of the best of the best. Next was Mrs. Pope, then after that was Mrs. Norcross. We all had jobs. I had two jobs, my first job filing papers, Mrs. Webers chose me to do that because I was quiet. Then my other job was name taker. I would go to the board and put people's names down if they were talking or if they weren’t doing what they were supposed to do. And that was fourth grade. Then something tragic happened, my favorite uncle passed away on December 25th. Everybody was heartbroken. It was extremely sad to see his son, my favorite cousin cry for one of the first times in his whole entire life. It was absolutely
The first time I noticed that learning can be fun and I actually enjoyed some topics was in the seventh grade. Before then, everyone had the universal thought that kept repeating, "Ew school. I hate it here." I entered my science classroom for the first time and my teacher, Mr. DeSantis, introduced himself. He was a very likable man, but the real challenge he faced was trying to make these students actually enjoy his class and not give him a hard time because it is middle school after all. The year began somewhat shakey in other classes, but Mr. DeSantis made it interesting. We started off with the anatomy, the basics of course, and it was phenomenal. He taught with passion and sincerity, giving personal examples of injuries and trauma he
I have always been good at biology and mathematics. This is one reason why one of my many goals is to major in biomedical engineering. I am very excited to start studying biomedical sciences, and hope to use my newly learned skills in the medical field. Achieving a college education in such field will pave the road for my future career, by teaching and instilling knowledge that would not have been learned otherwise.
Given those examples science has pushed me towards the health careers. I love the idea of being able to learn about how to save a human and/or an animal. During my junior year of high school I took physiology and an elective called first responder which is a health job. That's when i began to notice that physiology was helping me understand my first responder class.
In the beginning of the semester, I thought it would be enjoyable to take Anatomy and Physiology since I had already taken it in high school and actually received a high grade. I had heard from many students that this class is much harder in college and will often have a big lecture setting with more than three-hundred students, but I brushed this off and went into the classroom with a positive attitude. I quickly learned that big lectures were not the classes that I would succeed in, instead I preferred a small classroom setting where I am able to ask questions whenever needed. Throughout the semester, I also learned that I prefer online classes when it comes to mathematics and social sciences because they can be self-taught and I found myself often uninterested during the
I am currently taking Maths, Chemistry and Biology to Advanced Higher, all of which are challenging and stimulating subjects. They have all influenced me in different ways and were integral in my decision to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering. They have also helped me obtain a foundation of core skills and extended knowledge to hopefully prepare me undertaking my desired degree. There is no doubt that Maths and chemistry have helped fine tune and advance my problem solving skills and think in a more logical manner, all of which I believe to be essential for this degree.
This was a benefit to me in order to start taking biomedical science related courses soon after. I start to swim the science field gradually by taking basic science courses like : organic chemistry , biochemistry and biology. My pleasure was poster projects that were asked by the professor, because it allowed me to conduct research about the subject and build it from scratch. After one year of pre-requisite courses, I started the major courses. I still remember the anatomy course were I used to memorize all the weird muscle name and then practice at home.
In high school, I was sort of a science wiz; most of my peers would rely on me for answers to the question on homework assignments. Science came natural to me; however, that wasn’t always my strongest subject. In fact, while I was in middle school, I hated science and could not understand anything about the subject. I also constantly achieved no higher than a 40 on my science quizzes in 5th ...
As a student there are many memories that I have of curriculum at its best and curriculum at its worst. Unfortunately, I don’t remember much of the in between as those courses because they don’t stand out as much in my memory. I know that the course that really sparked my interest in science and teaching was my high school anatomy and physiology class. I took this class as a senior at Phillipsburg High School and it absolutely sparked my interest in science and is now the course I have been teaching for the last 11 years. The teacher was in his last year before retirement and really did a nice job of making the class fun, exciting and not rigid by t...
I remember my fourth grade year as if it were yesterday. My homeroom teacher, Mr.
