On average, about 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized every year in the United States (Humane Society). If you could do something to help save the lives of innocent and loving animals, would you? Adopting from a shelter will not only save one creature's life, but will aid homeless animals by freeing space in shelters. The costs of adopting an animal are far less than buying from a breeder. When adopting from a shelter, all fees, including vaccination fees, are included in the adoption price. Depending on the animal, you could be saving money on house training expenses. Often times animals are put in shelters as a result of divorce or moving. As a result, they are already trained and friendly to humans. However, purchasing from a breeder is much more expensive: "When you purchase a purebred from a dog breeder you may be paying anywhere from $500 to over $1000 for your new puppy, but often that’s all you're getting for that cost" (Dog Adoption Fees Explained).
