Fashion Emergency There is a very important decision that needs to be made at my school. To enforce wearing uniforms or not to enforce wearing uniforms. After a lot of thought I have decided that our school should absolutely not have school uniforms enforced. If they did enforce them there would be to many negative things that would have a bad impact on student life. Such as attendance, cost, and confidence. So we know that there are a few kids in my school that think we should wear school uniforms but I firmly disagree. I think that if we do that, it won't let kids show all their differences in style. We won't be able to express ourselves in fashion and it will limit us as individuals from showing our diverse personalities. It would be like taking color away from art. We would be all the same as though we were clones or passed through a cookie cutter machine. Erasing individuality even though we are continually …show more content…
Uniforms are about $15 for a shirt, $10 for pants, $13 for a skirt. Then you need the ties, leggings, vest, shoes, and socks which are all added costs. You also need winter clothes like long sleeve shirts, coats, and sweaters, it all adds up. You need to buy 5 sets of everything to have 5 days worth. You will also have to buy regular everyday clothes for everyday use. So you are doubling the expense for the families. There is Another point the school should be concerned with. If kids are accustomed to the school not having uniforms and the school gets uniforms, then the kids might not like it and choose to attend a different school. If the majority of students decide to move Then we wouldn’t have enough students to keep the school running. There would be jobs lost as well. Perhaps the government would shut down the school completely. Which would be a sad end and could be completely
This would more than likely infuriate those students and their parents who are under the assumption that the uniforms are for the betterment of their learning and yet they are still not getting ahead. This would only bring opposition and uprising from the students. The reason most schools fail to mention these tidbits of information about surrounding schools is merely to make anyone who opposes mandated school uniform policies doubt their stand on the
In conclusion, in our public schools, students should not be forced to wear uniforms. This is because they take away a student’s freedom of expression, sense of individuality and they do not save families any money. There are plenty restrictions already in place for students. These rules and regulations are acceptable because they help maintain order on a daily basis. However, mandating school uniforms would not be a helpful regulation. Uniforms may seem like a good idea at first, but in the end they would do more harm than
First, School uniforms can sometimes cost a lot of money whenever a parent’s child is required
The most common argument against school uniforms is that they take away the students right to self-expression. Yes, school uniforms limit what the students have to wear, but students can still have their own ways of self-expression. Students can still express their style of choice with their hair and what accessories they wear. Their shoe choice is also a form of self-expression. Students can make the uniforms their own style without breaking the dress code. School is a place to learn. Outside of school, self- expression is limitless. Some parents also believe that it could interfere with students' natural behavior to experiment with different identities. Having uniforms in schools helps erase the defined line of the social classes. Typically, popular kids in the higher social classes wear the trendiest clothing...
School is where different students with different personalities, different ideas and different cultures and different clothes all come together. One might even become friends with someone else just, because they were dressed a certain way. By requiring all students to wear the same clothes, schools are inhibiting students of diversity. Without diversity, all students are going to think of everyone else as being the same person they are. Preventing them from engaging with students from different backgrounds.
“We cannot forget that reinforcing economic differences drives students further apart when schools should be drawing them closer together.” There are many problems in public schools with no uniforms. The use of school uniforms could eliminate some of these problems. Although school uniforms may take away a child’s individuality, there are more benefits than disadvantages to having school uniforms in public schools because school uniforms lessen the money spent on the latest fashion trends and school uniforms provide a positive school climate. A school uniform should be a simple outfit.
By wearing school uniforms parents would save money from buying new outfit frequently, it will also save you time, from searching for what to wear every school day and also will reduce the amount of people being judged or bullied. If school uniforms are enforced, parents wouldn’t have to spend as much money, buying school outfits for their child. Based on the article “School Uniforms Saves Money, Avoid Problems” by Brittany Whelan, She implies that it would be cheaper for the parents to buy five same outfits for school, than buying 10-20 different outfits. With school uniforms, students wouldn’t have to buy expensive outfits just to look good, and you wouldn’t buy outfits as often you would if there were no school uniforms.
Robin Goldwyn, a writer for Barrons.com, stated that,” Annual U.S. school-uniform sales total an estimated $1 billion. ”School uniforms are uniforms or certain clothes people have to where at specific schools. Usually most of the time private schools are the ones to use school uniforms. School uniforms are also most likely or most of the time more formal and are nice attire. Other schools like more public schools has a dress code and a set of rules on what requirement the kids clothing every day should meet.
"I believe we should give strong support to school districts that decide to require young students to wear school uniforms. We've all seen the tragic headlines screaming of the death of a teenager who was killed for a pair of sneakers or jewelry or a designer jacket. In Detroit, a 15-year-old boy was shot for his $86 basketball shoes. In Fort Lauderdale, a 15-year-old student was robbed of his jewelry. Just this past December in Oxon Hill, Maryland, a 17-year-old honor student was killed at a bus stop, caught in the crossfire during the robbery of another student's designer jacket.
School uniforms violate students’ freedom of expression, cost a lot of money, and causes more bullying. These unnecessary problems are being occurred by uniforms. Of course, these problems should not be occurred by school uniforms at all. With that, school uniforms should be banned. Students lose their freedom of expression when a school uniform is required.
There are some kids that might not be able to pay for the expensive uniforms so they might have to go to a different school. “Shirts plus pants plus shoes add up quickly, so I was not surprised to find that the average cost of school uniforms for parents is $249” (Lisa Runge). Every year kids grow and get bigger so the parents have to buy new uniforms every year. Also some kids are careless for their clothes they stain them, rip them, and even lose them, so it would cost
Currently in America an on going debate continues regarding a uniform policy suggested to public and private schools. This develops into a controversial issue because valid argument exist on both sides. Giving this issue much thought has lead me to believe that making school uniforms mandatory would help the school systems. School uniforms would help unruly classrooms, also students would not have to buy expensive clothes and students would not get killed over tennis shoes. Schools that have adopted uniforms have reported several advantages.
In fact, one in five public schools throughout the US are required to wear them. It has been said that on average, high-poverty areas with public schools are more common to have school uniforms mandatory. The first school district in the US to acquire the school uniforms was in Long Beach, California roughly a decade and a half ago. As of 2008, 22 states have enforced the utilization of school uniforms. Studies show that US schools with a minority student population of 50% are four times as likely to require uniforms than schools with a minority population of 20-49%, and 24 times more likely than schools with minority populations of 5%-19%. Studies also show that the cities with the highest use of uniforms in public schools are New Orleans with 95%, Cleveland with 85%, Chicago with 80%, and Boston with 65%. Those studies were based off teachers and parents. 23% of all public and private schools are required to wear school uniforms and have a dress code. The annual cost of school uniforms sales runs about 1.3 billion around the world, and roughly 249 dollars per parent. With that being said, school uniforms could reduce the stress that comes along with school shopping. That is one less item that parents have to worry about. Just having to buy school uniforms instead of a whole new wardrobe after every new yea could help several families save money. It is said that having uniforms could potentially help families concentrate on where it matters most, which is the quality of the education that their child
Parents are also impacted when schools require uniforms. Some argue that this policy is too expensive; uniforms are actually more affordable. For example, an average parent of a teen that attends a public school spends over $500.00 a year on clothes alone, while a parent of a teen with a uniform policy spends less then $200.00 a year. There are fewer clothes to purchase, therefore less money to spend.
Students who do not want to wear uniforms will give many reasons for why they should be banned. They believe that school uniforms will take away their freedom to express themselves. Teenagers think that fashion is one of the most important factors to them to identify themselves with others. They argue that school uniforms will make this impossible. It is also uncomfortable in their opinion. While wearing an uncomfortable outfit, their concentration will be lessened and they most likely will not do well at school. The purpose of education is to encourage students to be creative and achieve their dreams, but students do not think they can make it if they cannot even dress the way they wanted. These all sound good and reasonable, but if one carefully thinks about them, they do not seem to be valid.
