Are School Uniforms Really Beneficial?

Many people feel uniforms are bad due to not being able to express your individuality when wearing a uniform. People feel when you wear uniforms everyday everyone looks the same. Wearing school uniforms come with several benefits, not only does it help financially by allowing parents to save money but it also allows kids to respect one another, adds a sense of oneness, allows them to feel safe, and builds confidence. Wearing uniforms creates a safer environment for kids and allows them to focus more on school rather then putting their focus on their clothes. "I believe we should give strong support to school districts that decide to require young students to wear school uniforms. We've all seen the tragic headlines screaming of the death of a teenager who was killed for a pair of sneakers or jewelry or a designer jacket. In Detroit, a 15-year-old boy was shot for his $86 basketball shoes. In Fort Lauderdale, a 15-year-old student was robbed of his jewelry. Just this past December in Oxon Hill, Maryland, a 17-year-old honor student was killed at a bus stop, caught in the crossfire during the robbery of another student's designer jacket. Everyone wants to have a look, an idealized look that is felt the need to be followed. If you cant follow the look then you are judged by other students. Students should not have to go through the pressure of looking a certain way to please another person. Uniforms build unity, not everyone’s parents can afford the latest trends of clothing. There are also parent that want their kids to have a certain look, their own look and wouldn’t want their kids wearing the most expensive clothing but having their own look
