Driving Safety “Vroom!...Screech!...Boom!” Another car accident. While driving, one may or may not keep in mind of the phrase: Driving safety laws. Unfortunately, the word safety is a complete lie. Each year, there are millions of car crashes in the United States. The number of car accidents that occur have to decrease and a solution needs to be introduced. Even the greatest celebrities like Paul Walker from “Fast and Furious,” can die in a car crash, which he did. Something needs to be done before someone you love, it can even be a celebrity crush, adds on to the list of people who died from this tragedy. To begin with, there is a generous amount of people who are killed or injured from car accidents. From observing through 2005-2015, the average estimation of car crashes per year is 5,808,272 in the United States. Even the most prudent drivers have a hard time avoiding these crashes. According to the U.S. statistics, more than 37,000 people die in road crashes per year. That is not all. 2.35 million are injured or disabled. Out of the 37,000, 1,600 children under 15 die and 8,000 people ages 16-20 die. It’s no surprise that the injuries and deaths are still increasing. Ever thought about who actually pays for these highway tragedies? The United states has to pay about $230.6 billion a year just because of these …show more content…
They will say that there is already enough valuable and strict laws for driving. As an example, there is a law to always wear a seat belt, don’t speeding, no phone usage while driving, and no driving while impaired. It is just the drivers’ faults. If the drivers were responsible, most of these road problems will be fixed. However, when the police gives tickets to drivers, think about the chances of the drivers breaking the same law again. There is a high chance. Not enough drivers are pushed to follow the law, which means something else has to be
With the introduction of the automobile in the early 1900s, laws have been instituted to protect drivers on the road. With these laws come lawbreakers who put their agenda in front of the well being of others. Tens of thousands of lives have been lost. billions of dollars have been spent, and pollution has grown exponentially because of this. drivers travelling at high speeds on roads (Hartman).
Implementing stronger laws is an action step; it is not passive. The other ways were mostly passive, and not aggressive enough. This makes it so that there is a consequence even if they did not get in a wreck. The law must work harder to look down on this, and see it as the threat it really is. (U.S. Department of Labor). Another great way to combat distracted driving is educating our children and students better on the issue of distracted driving. (Idaho Transportation Department). Assemblies should be held, and I believe that students should have to take a test on distracted driving. In order to pass the class, they should have to create a presentation on the subject, and sign a pledge. This is a big issue, and it needs to be handled, and dealt with as such. The benefits far outweigh the costs. The benefits will be saving real human beings lives. The cost will merely be a little extra work, and a little extra
Each year numerous lives are lost due to careless and irrational driving. The disregard for safe driving has been a predicament to Queensland for years. For many years? police have relied heavily on speed cameras, breathe testing and heavy fines as a deterrent against unlawful drivers. Over the years fatality rates have increased, so Queensland Transport has composed a series of safe driving campaigns. On many occasions the transport department informs and advises the public about the importance of responsible driving. They propagate safe driving through the various channels of the media. Their safe driving campaign is now using effective propaganda aimed directly at speeding; drink driving and tired and reckless driving
According to the Journal of Applied Behavioral Analysis, "automobile crashes are the leading cause of death for those aged 3 to 33, with 43,005 (118 per day) Americans killed in 2002 alone" (Clayton, Helms, Simpson, 2006). Worldwide, vehicle accidents consist of 1.2 millions deaths per year, "behind only childhood infections and AIDS as cause of death amount people aged 5 to 30 years old" (Clayton., 2006). The annual cost of road accidents is estimated about $518 billion"(Factor, Yair, Mahalel, 2013). The fact alone of being in a moving, heavy vehicle is a danger in itself but individuals that do not wear their seat belts, talk on the phone, text, and do other distracting behavior also put themselves in even more harmful situations.
...ught, he or she will not be severely punished. The unsupported threat of increased penalties is not sufficient to achieve long-term changes in habitual drinking and driving behavior. Experts believe that the prospect of jail time or revoking of driver’s license may be effective in getting the attention of the habitual drunk driver who has never been caught. “But unless treatment is available to capitalize on this attention, powerful habits will re-emerge as the memory of punishment fades” (Fields).
Based on available resources, 40000 people die each year in car accidents. This figure is an intimidating figure because it show the occurrence of death in a crash. In this accident, the leading cause of death is people under the age of 35 years old. Safety belts can prevent death in about half of these accident.
Driving under the influence is one of the most common and dangerous situations in which anyone can be or be placed. Drinking and driving is a serious offence that can cause someone to be physically harm or even killed. Not only are you putting yourself at risk but you are also risking the lives of passengers in the car as well as any other car and occupants sharing the road with you. Many people believe that increasing fines for drunk driving offenders will play a compelling role in cutting down the occurrences of driving under the influence. However, while harsher DUI laws will look effective on paper, they will not make a significant step in the fight against drunk driving. Although there is a law enforced for drinking and driving in the
Teens only make up seventeen percent of the population today, but almost twenty percent of fatal crashes are due to teenagers behind the wheel. Growing numbers suggest changing the driving age to eighteen and some even believe that changing it to twenty-one may save even more lives. With a sixteen year old behind the wheel, accidents are even more likely to occur when compared to a seventeen year old (Boulard). With so much new technology in today’s society there are more distractions on the road than ever before; therefore the legal driving age should be raised to save more lives. If we do not act quickly, then more lives will be lost.
Again, it makes the headlines; an older driver causes a dangerous automobile crash. As the amount of elderly driving has increased in the past decade, the risk for others to be out on the road has increased. In 2012, there were 36 million licensed older drivers in the United States. (Federal Highway Administration, Department of Transportation (US)) As a 34% increase from 1999, it has been noted that seniors are driving past their ability by an average of 10 years. (Federal Highway Administration, Department of Transportation (US)). Elderly continue to drive despite the prominent physiological changes that worsen as they age. The amount of automobile collisions suggests that prevention must occur in order to make the roads safer. By examining older drivers’ medical complications, older drivers must be retested to be able to drive a vehicle.
Knowing how to drive a car myself, I can’t expect an accident to occur. It just happens without your knowledge and sometimes without your fault too. It’s better to take precautions just in case such a thing happens. This will surely help you financially for the repairs of the vehicle.
Nobody goes onto the roads with a hope to die, we all want to come home to your families. This will be if we drive safely. Safe driving should come from within us and it is very much possible to prevent the road crushes that are being reported every now and then, occurring from mere destructions (2). Safe
For the topic of my paper I have chosen to study the physics behind car collisions. In my paper I will go over the average amount of accidents per year and go into detail on how accidents can be reduced. Using what I learned in physics and basic understanding of Newton’s three law’s of motion I will explain the proper functions of seat belts, air bags and crumple zones as well as explain static and kinetic friction and the affects they have in automobile accidents. About 1.3 million people die each year in on automobile accident, which is about three-thousand-two-hundred and eighty seven deaths per day in just automobile accidents alone. In addition twenty to fifty million people are injured or disabled.
“The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status, or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we all believe that we are above-average drivers” -Dave Barry, comedian. The number of accidents over the last ten years have drastically increased, drivers are paying less attention to the road itself. Many individuals behind the wheel of a car believe that their driving does not affect the road conditions, however it always will. The driving habits of today are catastrophic due to the reasoning that the driving will affect other lives through reckless or distracted driving, and disobeying traffic laws.
It is important to follow all traffic laws to keep everyone safe on road. The amount of traffic accidents and losses drops significantly when people are obeying the rules on the road. Sometimes we forget what a big responsibility it is to drive carefully. Traffic laws are designed to protect you and other drivers on the streets. If we don’t follow them we are not only putting ourselves in risk but also other innocent people. By knowing the rules of the road, practicing good driving skills, you help play a vital role in preventing a crash. You will also be making the safety policies more effective. Many components play a major role in road safety including speed limits that are posted and making sure safety equipment is properly installed and used.
Road safety is one of the most important aspects of daily living. Our vehicle is our main transportation from one place to another. The number of car and motorcycle accidents seem to be increasing because of the many distractions, the lack of safety measures and judgment to road conditions and weather. Not being cautious increases the chances of not only injuring ourselves but hurting others as well. On the road, you see people talking on their cell phones or texting, eating, putting makeup on, changing the radio station, reading or using your GPS while driving. These are all distractions that endanger drivers, passengers and bystanders safety. Safe driving involves off-road precautionary measures such as making sure tires are properly inflated, testing windshield wipers, getting regular oil changes and tune-ups and adjusting the mirrors. All of these actions can help prevent an accident. Unfortunately, not all of us decide to wear our seat belts when driving or turn signal ligh...
