Personality Influences

No one in the whole world has the same personality, but have you ever thought of how their personalities came to be? Personalities are built and influenced by many things and many people. The real question is what affects and molds a personality into what it is today? I believe that these are the four most common things that I believe influence personalities the most: where you grew up/environment influences, genetics/attitude, peers/friends and/or family, values/beliefs.
When reading up on how environment affects personality and/or behaviour I noticed that one of the authors had a hard time understanding how South Asians felt about where they live. Because to most Westerners you identify by your psychology, consciousness, …show more content…

However it does depend on the type of people you hang out with, and the things you do. I found this excerpt in one of the articles I read and here is what it says, “The more we interact with someone, the greater chance we have to shape his or her life in a positive or negative way and vice versa. Therefore, the people who tend to become the greatest influencers in our lives tend to be those closest to us—our friends and family” (Guo). The author then goes onto tale about how if we were in a situation where we were meeting someone new, how do we dissect them? Of course every provides judgement when meeting someone new, but the author goes onto to say that how we judge them does not really reflect the person, but it mostly speaks volumes on how we perceive ourselves. Here is another excerpt from that same article talking about how we value things, “If we value something very highly we give it worth above other things or even ultimate worth. We build our lives around it. This prioritising, giving position, reverence or regard was called ‘worschipe’ in Middle English. Today its name is ‘worship’. In other words, even if you do not consider yourself religious we all give something religious value” (Guo). This is something I believe everyone can relate to because everyone values something and places it on this pedestal, whether it is a person, or God, or materialistic things-everyone can relate to this
