Personal Statement: Schmidt Public Affairs

After seeing your advertisement for a student intern at the Luther College Career Center, I am interested in assisting in executing public affairs, drafting communication materials and supporting the senior team members in any way I can at Schmidt Public Affairs. This would be a valuable experience because it would enhance my knowledge as a psychology major, provide with experience working with public affaires and grassroots advocacy, and allow for me to apply my communication, leadership and writing skills in interning for Schmidt Public Affairs.

My experiences working in Luther College’s Diversity Center and Counseling Services, the YMCA Camp Weaver, and my studies as a psychology major make me a good fit for interning for Schmidt Public Affairs. As a camp counselor, I often encountered unexpected situations in which I had to be quick to solve problems and help kids from many backgrounds. Working with kids with single parents, learning disabilities, parents in the military, and collaborating with other counselors has helped me in my understanding of all peoples. Having a better understanding of people assists me in assisting others. I feel that I am well suited to effectively fulfill the duties as an Intern because I have worked with diverse populations of people in a variety of situations. …show more content…

One of my main responsibilities of being an outreach assistant in the Diversity Center, and Counseling Services is to thoroughly know the resources and services that the centers offer in order to successfully outreach to students and faculty. I think the combination of my coursework, being knowledgeable about my affiliations, and experience in blogging and assisting in newsletters would make me a great intern for Schmidt Public
