One of my defining abilities that makes me apt to perform this job well is my detail-orientation. I have always successfully noticed any discrepancies within a project, a test, or everyday life, no matter how small. Time and time again, I am correctly doing this without making any mistakes. My aptitude can also be shown through my ability to lead, “As a leader, you’re often ahead of your time. As an employee, you try to surpass the competence level of peers, even managers. Incisive and curious, you’re driven to deeply understand how things work” (Dranitsaris). So, with all my qualities in mind, it is evident that I will do well in the accounting field. I have the drive to perform high quality work consistently. For the latter two years of my high school, I have been reading books and articles regarding the stock market in the U.S. and in China. Two years ago, I was writing my letter of intent for my application to the Master of Public Administration (MPA) with a concentration in Healthcare Administration revealing my failures, and most significantly, that I lost my passion and didn’t know where to start. I also conceded that I was relatively unaware of the field of Public Administration (PA). Little did I know, examining PA theories would enable me to connect the final dots in the big picture of my life, where I came from, who I’d come to be, what choices I’d made, the relationships I nurtured, and my dreams and desires for the future. Although confidence came slowly and awkwardly, I discovered my desire to contribute to the advancement of public health policies. I am writing to express my interest in continuing to the Doctoral program in the School of Public Administration at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). I am absolutely interested in the commitment to the advancement of knowledge, and confident my experience in higher education and academic research will contribute to my successful completion of the Ph.D. program, in the specialization area of public policy.
I am an ISTJ with unique personality strengths and weaknesses. My strengthens are being hardworking, productive, efficient, and driven (Kroeger, Thuesen, & Rutledge, 2002, p. 306). The Prentice Hall Self-Assessment increased awareness of more personality strengths and weaknesses for my consideration.
First, I will express my personal mastery journey with my work life. I just recently graduated from the University of Indianapolis with my undergraduate degree in accounting. I graduated with a high GPA while participating in collegiate baseball, which I believe will help set me apart from others when beginning my career. That being said, I also believe that I have a lot of learning to do in order to be successful in my early career. I feel that I did not learn as much as I should have about accounting and I will need to dedicate a significant amount of time relearning and learning to have success in the accounting field. My vision for my career is to be a partner at a mid-level accounting firm in my early to mid 30’s. I aspire to be at a company that challenges me and allows me to progress and meet my goals. I would prefer a mid-level accounting firm because it would allow a better work life balance due to less hours. In order for me to bridge this very large gap of where I am currently at and where I aspire to be, there are a great deal of obstacles I need to overcome. First, I need to land an entry level position with an accounting firm that I feel will allow me to grow and succeed. I also need to put in the time to learn as much as I can about the profession. Finally, I need to allocate a substantial amount of time to studying and passing the certified public accountant exam. This is my
