Personal Statement In the year of 2008, my oldest brother and I became U.S. citizens. I was just weeks from becoming an 8-year old girl when my family and I moved to the United States. After a long process we got to the Big Island of Hawaii, two years later my youngest brother was born. The Big Island, where my oldest brother and I learned our first english words. Learning a second language was another huge step for me since it was hard for me to understand others and to express myself. The time I lived in Mexico I would always speak spanish since it was the only way for me to communicate with my family and friends, therefore, I never did hear the english language on a daily basis until I started to attend school in Hawaii. They have taught me the meaning of respect, also much about the good and the bad about life. I feel a great debt of gratitude towards my parents for always being with me through my up and downs. Due to my mom's influence in my life, i find her accomplishments fascinating. My mom has always been my role model. I have long admired her success and everything she does. I look forward to continuing on taking the best out of life with everything she has taught me through my lifetime. I am always impressed that she is a hard working woman, who has always supported my interests and has been proud of my accomplishments. She is the person who impatiently with discretion waited for my dad to be back, praying that he returned home safe, as he risked his life out there, in the desert for his family about twice a year. Yes, my father was an illegal immigrant who crossed the border, or as many say entered the U.S. as a “mojado” which translates to “wetback”. In a more understanding way, my dad did not only have to walk across the desert, but had to get through the rough rivers that he encountered. He too had to walk many, many miles throughout his journeys. I also admire his devotion to always wanting to give my family and i the best. This was always important to him and quickly became a great lesson through the years. I hope to inherit my parents virtues …show more content…
Through most of my high school experience i have somewhat struggled. My freshmen year i did not end it with enough credits due to my procrastination the first quarter of my sophomore year I spent it as a freshmen, so i worked to earn the credits i was missing to become a sophomore. Still the three quarters left of sophomore year I struggled, yet did not ask for the help that i should have had asked for, but thankfully I passed. My third year luckily i spent it as a junior all 4 quarters, and i am glad to say I stopped many of the things that i was doing in the last 2 years of high school which was not focusing on what was important, school. Instead i would choose to hang out with friends rather than doing the homework that was due the next day. As much as i loved my friends i accept that they were one of my biggest distractions at the time. By changing these little things i managed to pass with no “F’s” shown in my card, which to me is a great accomplishment. This year i am willing to work hard to obtain what I really want, to
...hool and work and life in general. I did not strive to do my best in high school and especially my dual enrollment classes. I was not ever thinking about my future and started not coming to classes. Once I accepted God in my life Junior Summer, all that changed. I realized I was on a negative path and God helped me turn my life around. Senior year is going wonderful so far, my grades are the best they have ever been and I am busy as ever with work, school, church, and volunteer work. I love it this way, I believe staying busy requires me to stay on task and get a lot done, that is the lifestyle I have to take to college. Although that bad patch in high school lowered my grades and performance, making it more difficult to get into college, I am thankful it happened so I could learn from it before heading off to a new chapter in my life, hopefully at Auburn University!
We lived in a small town called Fort Hancock, Texas with my grandparents. Everyone just spoke Spanish in that town and for that reason, I learned to just speak Spanish first. When we moved to Oklahoma City I was five. I had to transition to English, which was hard. I got made fun of, but luckily improved later on my literacy journey.
I had a difficult time learning in school. I became a few years behind my grade level and my parents considered having me repeat a grade. My learning support teacher worked with me one on one for months and taught me how to study and work hard. I continued working hard and started getting better grades, and soon I became top of my class. I kept studying and strived to get the best possible grades throughout middle school and high school. I looked to challenge myself and took advanced placement classes. I don’t think I would have worked hard in high school, if I had not struggled earlier on, I would most likely be on a completely different life
I learned from their actions, which inspired a meaningful work ethic. My Grandparents were also instrumental in my development; teaching me practicality and the importance of living within my means to avoid becoming a slave to the lender. Their combined efforts taught me to be confident and responsible for the choices I make in life.... ... middle of paper ... ...
In high school, I have enrolled in AP, Pre-AP, and Dual Credit classes to prepare for the exceptionally challenging classes that lie ahead, especially in the subject of science. Taking Pre-AP/AP and dual credit classes has enabled me to persevere and has further improved my work ethic. When I was a junior, I had a lot on my plate. I was on a very demanding dance team, in National Honor Society, Service Cord, and had academics to worry about. I struggled for a long time with the course load, and contemplated on dropping some classes, but I didn’t. I began working harder than ever before, after practice ended at about 5:30pm, I would go to George Memorial Library every day to do homework until the library closed at 9:00pm. Then I would go home and continue doing my homework until it was complete. That year I learned how dedicated I was to my academics. The same drive that I had that year will be the same drive that will get me thorough
They taught me values like working hard, being faithful to your family, the importance of a good name and being honorable, the importance of community and supporting community groups, remembering your ancestors and your cultural heritage, respecting your elders and your parents, and many other important values and virtues that help me to be a man of substance and strength. And yes, I can say it, I am a man of substance and strength, perhaps even a dime among a lot of nickels.
I will start off by talking about my amazing mother and how she helped me out in the long run. My mother taught me to never rely on anyone that I can do whatever I set my mind to. She also told me that life is full of mistakes, and I would always learn from them. She taught me how to cook so if you ever want something to eat you know who to come to.
High school can be a very tricky and difficult time. Your courses are harder, there is more homework. So how do you learn to stay on track and keep up with your school work? In high school it is easy to start falling behind, you’re finally able to drive and go do things, there is extracurricular activities and if you play sports that consumes a lot of your time. You have to be able to still make good grades, focus in school, and have a social life. For you to learn to succeed in high school, you need to familiarize yourself with the teacher and the classroom, prepare yourself for the challenging work ahead, and push yourself to the best of your ability. With real genuine effort put forth in school, you can accomplish the goals you wish to achieve. It puts you one step closer to graduation.
I will always appreciate everything he has done for our family through the years. The character “Mama” in Alice Walker’s “Everyday Use” reminds me a lot of my mother. She is hard working women, and she tries to teach her kids the right way. She has sacrificed for her family every day of her life. I have greatly benefited for both of my parents guidance, but not everybody is as lucky as I have been.
They teach me life lessons and how to do well in school and life when I'm older. They love and care for me by keeping me safe, making sure I do well in school, and by getting me all the things I need or want. My family also supports me in all things I do like my grandparents do. They support me A LOT in soccer and A LOT in school. My parents just want the best for me and my brother. Without my brother and my parents I would not be who I am now. The most important thing they do is teach me life lessons like what’s smart or dumb. They do anything to help me or support me. I am so thankful for all things they do for
She had remarkable strength that I highly admire and she has always inspired me. I imagine you will find many people in this world that have had such strong people in their life that has greatly influenced them in a positive way. I do not think it is uncommon to have a remarkable person in your family.
Even before my first tear hits the ground, my mother is there to wipe it away. My mother feels my pain before I can even realize it. She understands my needs before I can even think of them. That’s why we call her a mother. My mother has been an extraordinary influence on my life and always will be. She’s the kind of mom who would always take time out and care for her four children and the mom who would never let her hardships in her life distress her kids. My mother has always been a very strong role model to me, and growing up with someone like her to look up to has changed my life in many ways. She has helped me grow physically, intellectually, and considerately. She taught me to always love, care, and give back to the people I am grateful for.
My mom was a super-mom. She drove carpool, was always apart of every booster club and was the leader of every classroom party that I can remember. She encouraged me to do everything that I wanted to do. She made sure that I got everything I wanted. None of that would have been possible if my dad didnt work. While it felt like he was always gone, he was just doing what he had to do to make sure that my mom and I could live a comfortable life. Of course he took off every chance he could so come watch me at one of my games or help me practice in the back yard. If I didn 't have them I would have nothing. They are the ones who supported all of my decisions and made me feel better about trying new things. Without them I would not be the person I am. Not only would life without my parents would be drastically different but also without my siblings. Like I said before, they were my best friends growing up. I could always count on the being there for me when I was down. Not only did they bring me up when I was down, but they also praised me when I was up. They treated me like I was the greatest thing that has ever walked on God 's green earth. While they would sometimes annoy me with the constant need of attention and feeling like they needed to be involved in every detail of my personal life, I love them more than words will ever
My mom and dad have been more than parents, but true role models for me and my siblings. I have had the pleasure to grow up on a dairy / tobacco farm and it was nothing short of spectacular. I learned about budgeting, death, faith and hard work at a young age. My parents instilled nothing but great values into my siblings and I. My parents not only taught, but are examples of six ways to be a great leader. When it comes to inspiring commitment they are always motivating me and my
All in all, my mother has had a great impact on my life. She encourages me to always grow and blossom into a better person each day of my life. No matter what happens in life, she has taught me to have faith and keep a smile on my face because better days will come. She’s been supportive and makes sure that I continue to prosper. Also, she has helped mold me into the young adult I am today and the success adult that I am sure to be in my future. My mother has greatly affected my life and for that she is greatly
