As a traditional Native American saying goes, “Certain things catch your eye, but pursue only those that capture the heart.” My heart was captured by pediatrics at an early age. My journey was started growing up in a small town of India with different but significant healthcare needs and limited availability of resources. During the school life, I was always attracted towards human biology. As a young student, I was very curious and used to ask many questions, and my teachers always explained every principle by scientific reasoning and rational thinking. Childhood, after all, is a time when every human begins to construct their concepts of the physical, social, mental and emotional portions of their life. In turn, these perceptions can profoundly …show more content…
From treating kids to reassuring anxious parents, I have found all aspects of pediatric speciality interesting. During my time with 'shaishav organization ' and ‘Smile foundation’ gave me a strong grounding in many of the roles and responsibilities of pediatrician and has definitely been a life altering experience. I am sure that the skills that I have developed through 'Shaishav’ and ‘Smile’ will be an excellent grounding for my future career. The satisfactions I received knowing that I had made a difference in the lives of so many who were so young and vulnerable went down to my very soul. I knew that pediatrics was where I truly …show more content…
In turn, I benefited from further improving my ability to work as part of a team of professionals and I gained immense confidence practicing medicine in an evidence-based environment.
My goal in pediatrics revolves around determination to provide comprehensive and compassionate care. I want to be a part of pediatric residency program that offers the opportunity to train in a well-structured, well-administered with family like environment, where teachers love to instruct and direct us through their vast amount of knowledge. I know your pediatrics program would be a good fit for my passions and talents. I am confident that my pursuit of this career path is an invitation to an even fuller and more exciting life ahead.
Only children are capable of showing us the true nature of love. Therefore, safeguarding and promoting the health of such valuable people makes pediatrics such a rewarding specialty for me. Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to the opportunity of becoming an even more compassionate and skillful pediatrician through your
7th grade brought opportunity to discover more about medicine. Mrs. Barrett asked us to research an interesting careers. I picked pediatrics. I chose to tap into a first-hand experience by sitting down with Dr. Wayne. Every patient to him was like solving a Scooby Doo mystery. Sick kids were so young that, they could not always tell what was going on and parents were also at a loss for words. However, often times there were hints as to the illness. Arriving at a
I have always had a passion for nursing. As a child, I watched my mother getting up early, putting her scrubs on and headed out the door for a 12 hour shift. She was always content, and at ease to go for a long shift and even overtime at times. I love the fact that after work, she would always come home, satisfied with the day no matter how hard it was for her. She would sit and tell my brothers and sisters how she enjoyed the conversations that she had with her patients and what impact she had on their lives that day. Listening to these stories as a child, I knew that I wanted to become a nurse and listening to the same stories and helping people, making their day feel better. I wanted to follow my mom’s footsteps. At the end of a long shift, it is a rewarding profession, knowing that I am saving people’s lives, making them comfortable when they are near of dying, advocate and teaching them. As nurses, we care for patients through illness, injury, aging, health. We also promote health, prevent diseases and teaching the community; that’s what I love about nursing. I believe that this is the right profession for me because I have all the qualities that a nurse should possess when
There are few jobs in today’s world that are essential to our society and being a nurse is one of them. Diane Marks Nurse Clinician of Pediatric Allergy at the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg Manitoba granted me the privilege of sitting down to discuss her career . Through this interview I was able to gain perspective on how being a pediatric nurse encompasses more than what is written in the job description. It is more than just needles and antibiotics, but many times it means being a mother, a sister, a friend, a councillor, and many other roles in the patient’s life.
...en who are there each week are incredibly inspirational, and they never seem to be discouraged, even though some of the patients have been there for five to six weeks in a row. I look forward to seeing their smiling faces each time I visit, yet I cannot help but hope they will not be there but will be at home the next time I visit. The children and youth I have met at Children’s Hospital have become dear friends, and they have taught me that leadership involves making the most of the talents we each have been given, and seeking excellece, not perfection.
A career in nursing is extremely important in today's society. Without nurses to assist doctors in the care of patients, the quality of patient care may not be the same. Nurses do not just serve a great role in our community, but they also are just as needed as a police officer patrolling the streets or a teacher in the classroom. Although it may seem very easy to become a nurse, one's desire must be very strong in order to to actually pursue a career in nursing. Pediatric nursing is not just a profession that one would desire, but is a profession that is widely needed.
Since I was a child, I have always known I wanted to become a doctor, but I did not know what kind of doctor I wanted to become. Did I want to become a doctor to earn a lot of money and live a prosperous life, be respected in society, or so that I could simply help other people? The answer came to me not too long ago while I was volunteering at the Methodist Richardson Hospital. During my time in the children’s ward reading books with these children or even just talking to them, I felt a sense of fulfillment. Seeing these children with life threatening diseases, such as cancer, smiling happily as if nothing were wrong, living their lives as if they were not stuck in hospital beds made me just love them and their positive attitudes. Working with these children helped me realize that whatever I did in life would be focused around children such as them. The volunteer work I committed to at this hospital helped me realize the career field I wanted to go into, and it also taught me how important it is to keep the new generations yet to come healthy, and a massive risk factor that would risk the health of children is childhood obesity.
I remember the exact moment when I decided that becoming a pediatric nurse might be what I wanted to do with my life. My family and I were down the shore for a family vacation, which we do every summer. One rainy night we decided to stay in the hotel and watch a movie as a family but it did not go as intended. All of a sudden my sister started to complain of agonising pains in her kidney so we rushed her to Atlantic City Medical Center where she was diagnosed with kidney stones at age 6. This hospital then transferred her to St.Peters Childrens Hospital where I met the most kind hearted nurse. This woman cared for my sister with so much love, not only as a nurse but as a person. Once she entered the room my sister had a smile on her face even though she was in pain at times. As I
I have known from an early age that I’ve wanted to become a doctor. Helping people has always been a passion of mine. When I was younger, I wanted to be a veterinarian. However, after working with young children I have found that I love working with them, and have a connection with children. Currently, I am interested in becoming either a neonatologist or a general pediatrician so I can continue to work with young children.

Pediatric nurses are trained to effective care for all children and to also play a role in a patient's recovery. Each day, medical research is taken to new and improved levels changing life as we know it. The experiments grow ─along with technology─ and shape this world for the better. Since no one in this world is alike, treatments are being discovered to take care of patients in their own ways. To fit with all these differentiated needs, healthcare has been broken up into multiple categories. Each section is specifically responsible for the unique care of patients but the end goal over all, is the same (treating others). One of the best known units of healthcare that is needed today is Pediatrics. Children under the age of five in America receive better healthcare from their pediatrician than an average family doctor. The specialist in the medical field came to this conclusion by stating that a pediatrician has the specialized knowledge needed in caring for the youth population. As I prove this study to be factual, my research paper will explain how pediatrics came about over time, how much of an alteration there is between a pediatrician and a family doctor, and why this particular care is essential to all children.

After I walk across the stage and take my diploma I will be going to medical school to accomplish my dream of being a Pediatric Dermatologist. I am unsure of which school I’d like to attend, but I prefer to stay close to home where I can see and take care of my mother on a weekly basis. I plan to finish up school and move onto my residency in a hospital which I can only hope will be Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. I have been a patient there for many years and see the arduous work and dedication they have, to helping their patients through a tough time in their life, hoping to just make the day a little easier. I have volunteered there before and have seen firsthand what joy it brings to make an impact on one child’s life.
I became particularly drawn to pediatrics after shadowing several pediatric doctors of the PICUs and NICUs. The patients I encountered were always joyful and kept a positive outlook even in their declining health. However sometimes a high emotional capacity was necessary for working in a setting such as the PICUs or NICUs. The physicians I shadowed were attentive to the concerns of their patient. In addition, they showcased the ability to extend empathy to both the patient as well as the family of the patient. One thing that became clear was the financial and emotional toll that a devastating illness has on a family. I could relate to the feelings of grief and anxiousness felt by family members of the patients since my father had also been hospitalized several times, often for several weeks at a time. Nevertheless, I enjoyed working with new families and individuals, even in their difficult time. I was inspired by the patients and sought to help them out in any way possible. Through my shadowing experiences and volunteering in a clinical setting, I have come to realize by serving as a pediatric doctor I would be able to empower children I provide care for by helping them to attain a sound body and
Pediatric Nursing interest me because I want to be able to help babies, kids and young adults. It's a way to be able to make a difference. I've always liked taking care of kids. I like taking care of kids because they’re creative. They always seem to find ways to make things fun so they’re not bored. I want to be able to help them stay healthy and live a healthy lifestyle. I think I'm able to build a better relationship with kids than with adults, because I can understand their way of thinking. I think that also may be the reason why I want to become a Pediatric Nurse. Each kid is different and I think it’s important to understand that.
Going to the doctor can be a scary and uninviting experience, but pediatric nurses make it their job for a child to look forward to going to the doctor. According to Hey Little Fighter, “Nurses go out of their way. A lot of the things nurses do aren’t even part of their job description. But they do love their little patients. They act goofy with them, and make them smile” (Hey Little Fighter). This quote proves that pediatric nurses go out of there way to make your child feel good about being at the doctor. An individual can make a difference in the medical field by knowing what skills and education they need, the income they would make, and their daily duties in order to have success in the field of pediatric nursing.
