Personal Statement: A Career As A Medical Assistant

It has been my passion to become a doctor ever since I was a little girl. A doctor has one of the greatest jobs in the world, which is the power to heal someone of their discomfort. I want to be able to be of service to people by helping them both physically and emotionally. Currently I'm helping others on an emotional level through my volunteer work with Personal Touch Volunteers by spending time with patients and assisting them with their needs. However, I'm not able to heal them physically thus my reasoning for wanting to go to medical school to obtain the training to become a physician. I have prepared myself for medical school through my experiences in working with my mother, the classes that I have taken in college, and by volunteering at the hospital. At the age of nine, I started working with my mother, a mammographer at the time. This is where my passion for healthcare began. I’m sure that I was the only nine year-old that knew how to perform a breast exam. Although the rate for transmission is low, it is still important to find a way for the disease not to transmit at all because even two children with HIV is too many. One underlying problem is getting mothers tested early on during their pregnancy. There is a program in the United States called One Test, Two Lives that helps healthcare providers make sure that women are tested as needed. It would be great if this program were to become global, to assist women everywhere with obtaining HIV testing and also assist them receiving the necessary medication that will further decrease the rate of transmission.
