The One Thing That I Would change About Rice Rice was my perfect dream school, it had everything that I could ever ask for. Rice is one of the top academic colleges in America, has a beautiful campus, in a great climate, amazing off campus activities in the 4th largest city in the country, amongst the happiest college students, and it even has a chipotle close to campus- the only issue? I had never heard of it in my life. I was born and raised in Montclair, New Jersey and my high school sends students to top universities across the country year after year, yet I was the first student to go to Rice in nearly 10 years. Rice is an amazing institution, and I believe that its largest flaw is that not enough people are not aware of this outside of Texas. …show more content…
If you are looking to get a job somewhere else, maybe not so much. At the moment, nearly half of all students at Rice are from Texas, and most of them stay here post-graduation with their careers. This creates somewhat of a cohesive network, where many people share the same contacts. While under this network structure there is increased trust within the group, increased cooperation, and close relationships, it also leads to group think and redundant information. If we could change the structure of the Rice network to a more brokered network, then all of the students and alumni would be connected to a larger amount of people spread throughout the world. A brokered network allows for increased opportunities and more diverse resources. Rice would benefit greatly from expanding its reach from largely just Texas and allowing its graduates and affiliates to have opportunities wherever they
The biggests explain I can think of is University Of michigan. They are famous for their football team. But do you know what else they are famous for? There science department. University Of Michigan get peoples attention only for football of science department what about other major? The major that could matter but don't get enough attention. This world of education is turning to only science majors and math or the football team. There classes like writing, speech, art and etc is turning into basic classes that supports science and math. The high the test score in these subject the better the rating for universities. What about the success rate of students? No college wants to rate themselves by the number of murders, suicides, failures, or dropouts. They all hide the negative side to attract the students to come to their college. Colleges are turning education into a business. They do this by adding classes that are not a part of their major, increasing the prices of books, and high tuitions that cause students to pile up with student

My experience at Ventura College meets all of what Hacker and Dreifus set as good college traits. Ventura college tuition rates seem to be very reasonable and also affordable to most people, most people don’t have to worry about being stuck with a debt that they have to pay after they graduate. Teacher’s quality at Ventura College is great, most teachers know how to teach and how to interact with students. The student teacher ratio is low with comparison to other big colleges. Most of Ventura College’s money is spent on students related activities, there isn’t a fancy cafeteria or a huge gym. My experience at Ventura College exceed the price I pay to attend it.
...rward to attending this multi participle college, and if someone is looking to attend a college, they should go to this one because there is something for everyone.. Again it is not that expensive, and is ranked one of the best schools in the country. It also has a lot of clubs and sports you can be a part of. I hope you enjoyed my essay on the wonderful School LSU.
I don’t believe creating a network that sole intention for gain is something that will come in handy in any kind of field. When you base your network only on what the people in it can do for you eventually people learn that it is your only interest to use them to bring you up and this cause tension in your network. Even if you are a matcher you limit your network to were you only work with people that you have a give and take with. Both taker and maker networks a limiting and can wind up shrinking when it become know that its your only real interest to help yourself and not others. In some cases, people have found that in the business and political field that can raise with a network that is solely on getting or gaining but at one point or another they plateau in how high they will get in these fields. In reading Give and Take and my only personal believes I think it is strongly agents everyone best interest to only be interesting in yourself and how far you can go in the world. When more people are willing to give help and exchange ideas with no string attached people feel better about one another and are more willing to work together and help another in return. More people should live by Rifkin’s motto of “I want to improve the world, and I want to smell good while doing
Maybe Rice had mad a mistake when deciding where to go to college. Maybe he should...
Most kids have ideas of what they want to be when they grow up. Astronauts and princesses, ninjas and cowboys, rock stars and pro athletes all seem to be an achievable profession when we are young. It is not until we age where we find that reaching for the stars can leave a person hitting back down on earth pretty hard. However, I was never one of these kids. My entire life I have never had any idea of what I wanted to do for a living, at least not until I started watching a television show called Our America With Lisa Ling. There was something about Lisa Ling that captivated my attention and left me inspired. For the first time in my life I know what I wanted to be. I wanted to be just like Lisa Ling. I admire Lisa Ling for her ability to connect with her audience and the depth she brings to the topic.
In unit seven we learned a lot about the job process. I actually learned a lot of things that I didn’t know before. For instance, I learned that companies offering jobs don’t necessarily have to take any applicants, and that they actually go through contacts to find a suitable person not as much as resumes. This really surprised me, whenever I think of the job market I think of applying for a job, handing out a resume, and interviewing. I never once thought that the companies and businesses offering jobs may look to social media and contacts instead. It truly changed my idea about what I would do to find a job after college. I would of course still apply and polish up my resume, but I would also turn to social media a lot more. It also made me think a bit more about how I present myself on social media, since many companies and businesses are turning to social media this means that I would have to make sure that all my social media posts are posted with a great deal of care, and kindness.
I have been tirelessly searching for the best university for me for a while now. One with superb facilities, and a beautiful campus. One that offers me top education, a conducive environment for learning, and a memorable experience. A university that helps me develop both spiritually and intellectually. A university that allows me to find myself, not just in the classroom, but also outside the classroom.
The world is growing increasingly competitive, with newer technologies making the earth seem to shrink in size. Now this isn't literally of course but figuratively. Information can be shared faster, and at a fraction of the cost that it used to. Therefore this newer technology has flattened out the world, Thomas L. Friedman stated that “ Every young American today would be wise to think of himself or herself as competing against every young Chinese, Indian, and Brazilian.”. Globalization makes it easier for people to connect and share their ideas. It also makes it easier for people to travel to work and connect with their co workers who may be hundred of miles away. Globalization is bringing the world closer. When competing for a job one may be competing with an Indian or Brazilian and whoever has the most education will get the job. Moreover it isn't local competition anymore it’s now on the global level, whether its offshoring the job or having the employee move. Friedman stated that “…data entry to securities analyst to certain forms of accounting and radiology that were once deemed non tradable are now tradable.”. More and more jobs can easily be off shored to a Chinese, Indian, or Brazilian who is more qualified than an American. Furthermore the likely hood of offshoring is increasing and so is the level of education one needs to have the job they want.
I am an athlete, and also enjoy reading and watching political sitcoms. My parents are teachers who have raised me to work hard and have shared with me a lot of their political ideas and morals. Coming into this class I like to think I have a good idea of my Political Ideology and have a decent idea of the news that was happening around me. Through this class I hope to become more informed about the “Hot Button Issues” so that I can know exactly where I fall politically and become an informed voter. I hope these things will help shape me and maybe change my mind on some issues. Through all of this I am a liberal, socially and especially economically, considering both of my parents are teachers which is an underpaid profession ;this has influenced me to side with liberals on major issues or talking points such as abortion, same sex-marriage, and higher taxes on the rich.
As a child I did not know a lot about college. None of the adults in my life had been to College, my family did not talk about it, and it seemed like a distant land that I heard about only in movies and on Television. I was first introduced to college when my third grade class took a field trip to Iowa State University, clearly a much needed field trip considering my lack of exposure to higher education. I was immediately amazed by the grand architecture and massive buildings. I had never seen anything like a University campus before. The few things that I remember about the trip were that everything was big, the college students played with us, and we got to swim in the pool. While the larger purpose of the field trip may have been lost to my childhood excitement of getting to swim in a big pool, the field trip did mark the beginning of my knowledge of higher education and from then on I always viewed it as something that I would be a part of eventually, even if it did seem like a very distant future at age eight. As I grew older I developed other reasons for wanting to attend colle...
College is a wonderful experience that only a few get to expose to. Any four year university offers a great opportunity for anyone; either for the diverse rich culture college campuses offer, or the hundreds of organizations and the thousands of connections that can offer one person. In the real world today a college degree is almost “required” for any career or a good stable job. Few necessities in America are cheap or free. For example: water, health insurance, and welfare are just to name a few. Public education is on this list of free necessities in America. Coming from a person who went through the public education system for 14 years, I loved my experience and did not take it for granted. My school district wasn’t the best, but it sure wasn’t the worst. I enjoyed my time in public education and I made lifelong friends that I will never forget. My experience on the collegiate level so far has been amazing as I am on the path of accomplishing my goal to my dream career. Unfortunately, not everyone can say the same statement. A lot of people

The career services program is as effective as the career professional and support staff design and implement it to be. Despite the challenges that Cynthia Matson faces in her position, she is consistently in the top ten percent of ITT Tech campuses for student job placement and has always made the goal of a minimum 80% job placement rate for new graduates. The key to success in this field is to build a relationship early with students and nurture their goals and desires while working closely with academics to assure students are ready for the workforce. "Companies need people who can come in and get up and running without a lot of investment in time." (Lee, 2001).
