I was in 3rd grade in Mrs. Bell’s class when the Packers were heading to the Super Bowl and I was more excited than anyone! I was a huge Packers fan and my teacher was a huge Lions fan. We always talked about sports to each other and we had a little bond that was really cool to me. For Christmas I got her a Lions coffee cup because it was funny and that’s how we were. The Super Bowl was the upcoming weekend and she was rooting against the Packers and I definitely thought they were going to win so we put a bet on it. If the Packers won, she had to buy me a candy bar and if they lost, I had to buy her one. I thought this was the coolest thing ever and bought her a chocolate bar like the week before because I was so excited. Eventually …show more content…
Nervous was a feeling running through my body but that’s what every game feels like for me. We were playing Manistique at home. It was still summer so it was super hot, around 80 degrees. Our starting running back got hurt in the scrimmage a week before this game so I was starting for us. I got to the dry and we did our pre game warmup and were ready for kickoff. On our first drive of the game I scored a touchdown and had about 30 rushing yards so I was off to a good start. On our ensuing drive, I got the handoff and was running down the field and got pushed to try and knock me down. I put my arm down to hold myself up and keep running and my body weight and force I had going down towards the ground was too much and I fell right on my arm. I stood up fast and sort of screamed and saw my arm was just about hanging there like a clean break and I quickly snapped it back into place. I rushed off the field and was looked at by the trainer. She put an aircast on my arm and told me to just wait it out and see how I felt at halftime. By then, I felt much worse and my parents brought me to the emergency room in all my equipment. I was seen by a doctor right away and got x-rayed. Yup, it was a clean break in both my bones in my left forearm. Now I was thinking surgery for sure. They tried putting me to sleep and pulling on my arm to readjust it so maybe surgery …show more content…
We both had not so hot seasons so far as we were both 2-3 and needed this win for hopes of making the playoffs. We were playing in Ishpeming, or as Coach J called it “The Playground”, so they had the upper hand even tho it was only a short drive from Negaunee. Kickoff was at 7 and we arrived between 5:30-6:00 to prepare. We did our usual pre game warmup that we do before every game. I was nervous, like the MOST nervous I have ever been for a game because this was my first varsity football game against our biggest rivals. After our warmup, we went into the locker room like every other game before. The captains came in a couple minutes later and said we were kicking off. Coach J got us jacked up and we went back onto the field for the game to start. I wasn’t on kickoff so I watched the first play of the game. We kicked off and stopped them in a good spot so our young and hopeful defense trotted out to the field. They had a senior quarterback and a huge running back who was really good and hard to take down. Ishpeming is a ground and pound team which means they like to run the ball almost every single play so we were prepared and knew what was coming. They still ran the ball right down our throats on the first drive picking up 5, 10, 15 yards on most of their runs and getting a touchdown for their big running back on the opening drive. We were down 6-0. The
The first day we got there we had started off so wrong by arguing. We weren’t doing well and we argued most of the time. Us as a team, we honestly made ourselves look bad in front of the coordinators and other teams that were watching us. The coaches had given us a real big pep talking about sticking together as a team to make us better. Although we didn’t think we needed it, it actually
With the rest of the basketball girls from the surrounding area, I began summer basketball camp. There was a basketball tournament where we played 4 games in one day. During the game an opponent stole the ball, so I chased her down the court. Once I reached her under their basket, I tripped over her foot, fell, and heard something snap. I was absolutely freaking out. The referees ran down to me. All I could say was “Something popped! Something popped!” I couldn’t bend my leg at the knee, it was scary. I was brought to the main lobby to walk it off. I couldn’t bend my leg for two weeks.
I was so excited that I got to finally experience a Packer game and know what it feels like to be in stadium during a game. It was the day of the game and I couldn't wait to leave I just wanted to get there soon as possible. It was just Me, my mom, and my dad that went to the game because neither of my sibling like football.
I started at slot receiver and middle linebacker, it was pretty nice but tiring. Our first game of the season was at Summit Jr High and we knew they werent good, so we knew we would win. After school that day we all got ready in out football clothes and cleats but the bus was extra late, so we had to wait a long time. “When the heck is this freaking bus getting here, we are going to be late,” said coach.
We practiced, we tried, but we couldn't win. I learned a couple things from this. This is when I learned that no matter how good you are, or how good you think you are, football is called a team sport for a reason. There is no carrying in that sport, no matter what level you are at.
My coach said she did not see the play, that my arm would be fine and I should tough it out. She did not pull me out until one of my teammate’s dad stopped the game and told my coach that she had to pull me out because it was not an injury that I should just “tough out”. He took me to the athletic trainer on site and she had to reset my shoulder twice because my muscles were not strong enough to hold it
The season was just getting ready to start. It was the week of our scrimmage vs. Norwalk that I would break my collarbone. I was getting pumped for the season to start and I absolutely could not wait to go out and play a real game. I was in line to be one of the main pieces on offense and try to lead us to our end goal, which was making the dome. Then I received a jet sweep and had nowhere to go as the defenders swarmed me.
The starters were called up by our coach and she gave us a pep talk. Our 2 captains from last year called the cheer. “RED-DEVILS-ON-THREE-1-2-3. DEVILSSS”; 10 of my teammates and I went up to our position to start.
It went from little too little to a big play all of a sudden. When i saw the people on the line they looked at me like if i was crazy. I looked back at them the same way. After a few plays they had to punt the ball. We got it and started our drive.
So we took a quick water break and then ran back to our positions. The ref blew his whistle and the other team started out with the ball. We ran down the field. They went for a shot but Bryce stopped it then booted the ball back to the half yard line. We managed to get the ball and ran down the field.
It was simple, at first thought, my career was over. As I was rushed to the hospital, I thought I was never going to play football again. The pain was so unbearable, that every bump in the road would sent a shooting pain throughout my leg. I was for certain that I would never return the field again.
There were no bones broken but I could not get an MRI right then, because my right knee was too swollen still. When I was in the waiting room all I was thinking about was, “How am I going to pay for this visit, I don’t have insurance or medicate at all?” I did not have a primary doctor or the money to afford any of this. The next day I went to Buetel to order my medicine since it would have been cheaper there. Luckily, there was a specialist there to see what happened to my knee, he guess that I tore my ACL but still could not tell because my knee is still swollen.
I tried to dismiss this sensation as the game went throughout, but we were still not playing our best football. Although, there may have been a turning point if I had returned an interception and brought it back all the way to the end zone instead of just the 10 yard line. This reason being we could not score the ball from there and it was an extreme stop to our momentum. The final was 22-0 and ACGC had won.
I brought my foot back to take a shot and BAM! I got hit with a shoulder from behind. I fell and felt a snap. I broke my collarbone for the 4th time. So I had to miss out on the rest of the season this spring.
But that was no the case The whole car ride there my mom was crying and i was trying to go to sleep. My dad was rushing to the hospital. I was in no hurry i thought i was going to be just fine and wake up and my arm would be okay but that was not the case.
