Personal Narrative: My Resilience As A Student

During the first few days of orientation and quest, I kept hearing the unfamiliar word, "vocation." As the discussions continued and examples were provided, I began to develop an understanding for the concept and think of what it could mean for me. Ever since I can recall, I have inhabited an interest in writing as a creative avenue to share my thoughts and perspective. Abiding by this inclination, I developed my passion through taking advanced writing and journalism courses. Because of this, I spent middle school and high school thinking that I would be a journalist. To me, resilience means envisioning goals and fulfilling them despite adversity. Whether it be a long paper, reading, or test; a resilient student digs deep to focus and overcome the task. Additionally, it is important to note that I will not always receive the grade I had hoped for. When this happens, it is essential for me to reflect on how I can improve for next time, and continue with an increased strength. To improve my resilience as a student, I need to continue to practice studying for long periods of time, something that I did not have to do in high school. Also, it requires me to continue to improve my efficiency, while maintaining a level of work acceptable to my expectations along with my professor's.
When I face the adversity that comes with resilience, I need to remember that it is okay to ask for help. For example, I will seek out and complete extra credit assignments, ask my fellow classmates and professor's questions when clarification is needed, attend chapel and loft regularly, and try my best to remain social involved through athletics and floor events.
