We live in a world where all our lives we wish to be older. The funny thing is no one told us it was a trap. When we get older we move out, get jobs, some go to school but we all pay bills. We get to go through life with friends and family and that is what living is about. Being 18, going on 19, has had its ups and down for me. I finally got to experience the freedom of having a license, enjoy the opportunity to attend college and experience my first job. Without having these three important times of my life I probably would not even be here in this point of my life. The first thing about freedom was my license. You wait your whole life dreaming about getting it and planning what to do with it. You picture road trips in your head and thats …show more content…
When most people talk about having jobs it might not sound fun. People say, “If you love what you do you will never have to work a day in your life,” with that being said I loved my first job. Graduating high school and on the verge of missing my favorite sport which is cheer, my new job was similar to my favorite sport. I became a licensed personal trainer for a local gym named Ava Fitness in my home town and was able to teach classes. These classes ranged from Zumba to Turbo Kick. The classes that I taught allowed me to incorporate my dancing and fun music that you would do in cheer. Getting to experience my first job wasn’t enough so I got a second job. I probably sound a bit insane for having two jobs and going to school full time. Mid way through the semester I was hired as a Barista at Chowchilla Starbucks. It was a great experience to go through, so you appreciate all the fine things in …show more content…
After working for Starbucks for a few months I was slowly increasing with hours and learning more and gaining work experience. My co-workers and boss got to see how much hard work I put in my everyday shifts. With hard work comes great rewards and a reward is indeed what I received. I was nominated by numerous of my co-workers and boss to be the first ever “Partner of the Quarter.” It may sound silly but I was proud that all of my hard work was being recognized. After being considered “Partner of the Quarter,” I was offered the chance to get not only a raise but a promotion. Considering that I had two jobs and was a full time student in college there wasn’t time for my promotion. I was becoming a human zombie who barely had time to enjoy a simple nap. Instead, I finally let go of my first job but kept close ties with my boss at Ava Fitness. This allowed me to be more committed to not only my job at Starbucks but school as
Road trips are known to be fun adventures. When someone says they are going on a road trip people expect them to go and see amazing places and then come back. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson, Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck and On the Road by Jack Kerouac are about road trips but these trips are not about the adventure. Duke from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Sal from On the Road and Steinbeck from Travels with Charley all go on road trips because of the American drive. I am also on the road and even thought it is not road trips I am moving around and it is because of the American drive. The American drive is the need to go and to be on the move and it started because people were not happy about their current lives and they wanted to do more. They went on the journey to find happiness and success.
I spent two years working on a literary magazine and newsletter, and proved myself enough to grab a higher position my second year. Helping others perform to their fullest with my help is extraordinarily rewarding. These qualities reflected on the two years I spent regularly babysitting after school and on call. Babysitting not only helped me develop my leadership and role model traits, it was also gratifying to know that because I dedicated myself, I was making the lives of parents
Growing up all my friends had perfect jobs for teenagers. As a teenager, I spent a lot of time applying for jobs and searching for places to work because money didn’t come easy and I wanted to be in control of my own money. But I could never score a job. I applied to at least 100 jobs at least twice and I still couldn’t get an opportunity.
On stage, I anticipated third place, but was once again stunned when I placed second. This whole experience was life changing. Working for the National FFA Convention, I developed a work ethic to stick to something, and to do my best, even if it seems impossible. I also gained communication skills, and the ability to work outside my comfort zone. Even now it is hard for me to interact with others, but this accomplishment taught me that I can do hard things and I can communicate effectively. I learned how to perform research and express my findings. This experience was also very valuable for it directed me to my career path. It opened up doors as to my abilities, and gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams without fear. It taught me that failures happen, but enduring effort will turn failure into success. In my interviews, I learned that complete honesty is far better than false cover-ups. I became the person I am now because I was blessed with the experience. This project for some may be seen as a great award, but for me it's an invaluable occurrence which had more life skills and experience than a piece of paper can ever
Often our westernized cultures tend to portray those who are older as boring, lifeless, intellectually lacking, and out-dated. While youth is heralded as being the perfect state. In western cultures especially, the wisdom of those who are older, their skills and life experience is greatly devalued. It's no wonder that many people fear getting older as they approach midlife.
Every day before I clock in at work I am very happy and ready to work hard. Starbucks is not the best job in the world, but it is meaningful to me because it was my first job and also the job that pulled me out of my shell and taught me how to communicate and interact with people. My job as a Barista means a lot and it has been a great experience working for the company. The company also excels at meaningful work by offering many job opportunities for their employees, giving them the privilege to work hard, earn more money, and make their work more meaningful. Steger would agree with my experiences and my job position being meaningful to me because it makes me
When you turn eighteen you are expected to just be mature. You’re allowed to buy a house, a car, get a credit card, it seems like you can do whatever you want. Maturity basically gets thrown at you, so hopefully you are prepared for it. High school responsibilities, like getting a job, budgeting your time and learning to drive teach you skills that you can use in your adult life, if you choose to apply them. Maturity is about choice. You can be given every skill that you need to survive and if you are mature enough you will use them.
At 18 years you're not a teen no more you're called an adult so your responsible for your actions, nobody else. We must seat down and think when the appropriate age to get a driver's license. In my opinion, I say at 18 years old is the right time to get a driver's license. The appropriate time is 18 years old because their more mature, less lives will be at risked, there brain is more
After graduation, the only job I could find to keep a roof over my head was, teaching! I went to work in January after a beloved teacher found it necessary to retire mid-year. I was teaching high school history, and coaching girls’ basketball.. The first game was Friday of m...
The demanding nature of the work has given me an added sense of responsibility but also of pride, fulfilment, and greater appreciation for hard work, ultimately making me more mature and dependable.
On February 22, 2004, I finally turned 18. I was an adult. I was supposed to be responsible. I had rights I never had before. And I was old enough to make my own decisions. Although I passed up buying cigarettes, joining the military, and getting a tattoo, I did embrace the chance to vote. I remember walking into the town hall for the first time, filling out my voting card, and feeling the sense of adulthood. When I was sitting there voting I realized how little I actually knew about the candidates. I soon learned these new freedoms and privileges I had should not be taken lightly.
What marked adulthood for me was turning 16 because that's when my parents had me get a job
A first job gives many people a purpose and often times promotes dedication, work ethic, and a well rounded character. My first Job served as a wake up call to see the world as a continuos circle of capital to be generated, it opened doors to new hobbies and experiences as well. In my junior year of high school I was given an opportunity to apply to my local gym as a lifeguard and I jumped at the opportunity. I now have experience with Job applications, interviews, and how to conduct myself in a professional manner which are all great skills to have in the work force. I am very grateful that my first job has given me the ability to realize the true worth of a dollar and that with hard work comes great reward.
Through this work I gained promotion, demonstrating leadership skills and my ability to collaborate with colleagues, outside agencies and family members to ensure the needs of the whole child are
When I first started working at Chick-fil-A at 16 I had a desire to be the best I can be so I could become a trainer, This achievement was so incredible because as a result of my desire for greatness I became the youngest trainer my boss has ever promoted. As a trainer I have to maintain the standards of Chick-fil-A by training new team members many who are older than me. It showed the complete belief my boss ¬¬¬¬¬¬had in me to keep up the standards at his restaurant because he knew my skill and work ethic is way above the average work ethic of a teen my age. This is essential to my future goal because out of college as an engineer I will be in the same predicament I was in as a 16 year old at Chick-fil-A. Even though I may be younger than all the others fighting for the position my achievement gives me confidence that work ethic is a major key to becoming a member of a team and eventually a leader. This is also essential because I have a responsibility of being a leader in an organization just like I will have responsibility in running my own engineering
