It was just dusk and woke up because something was on my mind. The second day of a basketball tournament was on my mind. I only got about five hours of sleep from having millions of butterflies in my stomach. We had to be at the tournament and warming up by seven. We were the third seed with Lin mar black and Xavier Xtreme. On the way to there, my superstition is listen to my pump up playlist and eat a banana with a cliff bar. I always show up early because I take longer to warm up than most people. When my team showed up I was just finishing my own daily routine when the other team walks in too. When my team was ready to face the enemy we always have like a starting squad huddle and get pumped. This huddle was more than pump up; it was us
taking pride in representing prairie. When the warning buzzer went off; Jaylyn, Aaron, Quinn, and I set off for tip off. I always did tip off because I could jump high and I’m tall too. I felt like a blade of grass compared to a skyscraper compared to the man I’m guarding. He was known for dunking, blocking, and the most known for rebounding. This guy started varsity on his freshman year. The ref blows his whistle and it felt like slow motion the instant he threw the ball up. Jackson and I (man who I was guarding and who was a giant) looked at each other with a dirty look then he jumped right away. I thought I wasn’t going to win jump ball but I still gave my one hundred ten effort and guess what, I won the jump ball. Then the game was on. For the first five minutes of the game, Xtreme was winning 15-12 with us having no shots falling for us. We felt down so our coach called and gave us a good speech. Once his speech was finished and we were to pumped we had a run. I had seven points in one minute with one three and an and1 we started getting in their heads and kept going at them. It was like the movie Rocky II; we kept hitting them and they couldn’t do anything about it. It was like this until I got three fouls in about three minutes and I had to play safe. Once Xtreme knew I was in jeopardy Jackson tried to make me foul him so I couldn’t play. Then I somehow got called for pushing Jackson when I wasn’t guarding him so my coach threw a huge fit and he got a technical. Alex (my coach and my favorite coach) took me out because he wanted to save me for later in the game. By the time I was off the court, it was halftime. When I sat down, I realized I had the most points with fifteen points, four rebounds, three blocks, and one steal. During halftime, we talked about our next game plan and how to stop Jackson. So we put our next big guy on Jackson, which would be Nathan. For the next quarter, Nathan was doing some lockdown defense on Jackson and yet Xtreme was up 45-40. So Alex called another timeout and wanted to come up with a better game plan. He came up with having me going back in once we have the game tied so we can stay either tied or go ahead. Once Nathan had an offensive rebound and scored, I went back in ready to hundred ten percent. Our game plan was to double team Jackson so he doesn’t have a chance to score. With it being fourth quarter with five minutes left.
And the last question: I know that a lot of sportsmen have their out rituals before the matches. Do you have any?
When i Was at the mosque outside on the court while i was playing a 3 on 3 basketball game. And the teams was me, bosh and Salah vs Abu, Sunny and Musa. We started to play, and my team was down by 8 points. So i was kind of mad at my team that we was down by so much. So i told them let me take over and try to get us back in the game. So they let me take over and we went on a 7-0 run and out of nowhere we was only down by one point. Then we made a turn over, then they got the ball and they passed it to abdi. And abdi got through his defender and bosh stepped up and tried to block his shot but he head faked bosh and i step and try to block his shot and i jumped up tried to block his shot and my knee cap moved out of
I wondered if any Cubs fans had any little superstitions that they followed throughout the Cubs playoff run. I asked Alan Deutsch this question, and his response was priceless. “Yes. I was very superstitious during the playoffs and especially during the World Series game. I wore the same hat, sat in the same chair, drank from the same glass, and even went to the bathroom 15 minutes before the scheduled start of each game!” was his response when asked if he was at all superstitious during the Cubs elimination games. I’m sure if you ask other cubs fans they’ll all have stories about their peculiar superstitions during the
It 's the day before my last high school varsity basketball game as a senior… Wow four years went by this fast who would have imagined this day would have came. All day I was thinking about the season ending. This game meant everything to me, it wasn 't any ordinary game. It 's a section game! Win or go home.. With it being my last high school game I wanted to close the chapter knowing I gave it my all. Practice was probably the most intense it 's ever been for me. Emotions were flaring and we were all on the grind.
The time on the clock was 4:30 when the doorbell rang, fifteen minutes early. My three teamates were extremely anxious to get to the Center. I opened the front door and to my surprise the whole team was outside in their cars. They were all spiffed up in their shirts and ties, determined to win the game. As I threw my equipment in my friends car I was hoping that the next time I put it in there I would have a championship medal hanging around my neck.
With seconds to spare I arrived at batting practice and began to prepare for my game. I hear coach call out my name and as I he acknowledged that I was there he told me I was pitching. My brain shifted and went into a whole new mode, I was more focused and more determined than I have ever been. This was the biggest baseball game of my career and I 'm starting on the mound. Honestly it couldn 't have turned out any better, the fate of the pin and my team lied in my hands and I loved the pressure. The pressure made me thrive and before I knew it our team was marching onto the field for the national anthem. During the singing of the national anthem I peeked into the crowd and first row down the first base side was the little boy I met on the cart and his dad sitting right next to him. This game was for that little boy, I needed to impress him. I pitched six strong innings and my team ended up winning the game. It was the most exciting game of my career and the best part was being greeted with the best pin in the tournament after such a spectacular win. The little boy ran out into the middle of the field where we shook our opponents hands and in front of everyone in the stadium handed me the only thing I cared about besides winning. I was in the best mood for the rest of the day and I rewarded myself with a nice long sleep. I could only image what the next day had to
The scariest thing that I have ever experienced was dislocating my knee during my high school basketball game. While attending Forestview High in 2013 the second game of the season, I acquired my knee injury against Highland Tech. I was very excited about the game because I worked very hard to take a senior spot and was finally getting the opportunity that I was waiting for. Everyday during practice, I gave my all, all the blood, sweat, and tears that I experienced I just knew it was my time. Tuesday, November 22 we get to Highland, warm up, and finally it's time for tip-off. The first quarter I get off to a rough start getting all the jitters out. Second quarter arrives, then I began to get the feel of the game. As I penetrated down the lane after hitting a mean crossover, I came to a jump stop
Times like those create the happiest times for me. Basketball brings a great deal of joy to my body. I relish in opening my gym bag. The wrench of hot, sudoric Shoes brushes against your nose and for a moment, only a moment
Olivia Andrew sticks to these superstitions and there has not been a time where she hasn’t done this inside the basketball setting. “I don’t know what happens if I don’t do this, but I don’t want to find out.,” said Andrew. It does not bother her if people don’t follow her superstitions because they may have their
I remember one time, back in high school, I had basketball practice right after school, but I decided to tell my coach I was sick. The night before I had stayed up way too late doing homework and just really needed to go home, relax and catch up on sleep. The next day, I found out the team had to run extra laps because three girls, including myself, had called in “sick to practice. I felt so bad that they all had to run extra, they were probably tired too, but went to practice anyways.
In this essay, I would be talking about basketball and how it affected my life. This very challenging topic for discusses because it is so hard for me. It was a though thing to deal with in my life; it was sad what happen to me. Basketball always remained an extensive fraction of my life.
While walking in the school hallways, I would see my teammates with their jerseys on. We had this. We all would meet up at Depew to warm up. The other team came and so did the referees.
When I was a little kid I would go onto my mom’s computer and I type “ESPN” into the search engine. NBA would pop on the top on the screen and I would click it. NBA is my favorite sport to watch. I would look at the teams that were scheduled to play that night. The thing that always interested me is the over-under of the game and the percent chance of which team that would win the game. The one thing that always confused me was who in the world can the calculate something like that. I always tried asking my dad about it, but it was always too complicated for me to understand. Nothing really in grade school math further explained my yearning for an answer to how people calculate a team’s chances of winning. My first two years of high
TRAPPED IN THE PAINT It started out like any other tournament. Wake up at 7p.m., eat breakfast, brush my teeth, get ready, and put on my basketball clothes on and went to basketball practice. Shoes scraping the surface of the court, hands slapping basketballs, basketballs merely making it into the basket, i was glad to be in my second home. I saw some of my teammates and said “are y’all ready for the big tournament?’’ Tournaments are usually a breeze to us, since we win every time.
Next, we went down to the bleachers and watched the rest of the teams from our section. I was amazed at how good their routines were and how many people were on their’ teams. Before I knew it the awards ceremony was up. We got down from the bleachers and sat in a circle on the gym floor. Surround by about twenty other teams sitting exactly like we were. My heart was pulsing loudly, and my hands were shaking. I was super nervous. The announcer said,” In 3rd place, the team from Decorah.” Everyone cheered. Once it is quiet again he said,” In 2nd place the team from Cresco.” Then after everyone was done cheering the announcer said,” Drumroll please.” We all started a drumroll loudly on the floor. Then he said, “ In first place…” Everyone went silent from the anticipation. The gym was still. It's not going to be our team we did our best that is what matters. Then he finished “, The team from West Union!” I immediately jumped up and started hugging everyone around me. “ I can’t believe we won!” I said to the person next to
