Writing, is one of the most fearful and over thought piece of work. I personally, grew up struggling in writing and I had to find out how to write a “perfect” essay as I was looking forward to pursing a higher education. Throughout middle school and high school, I developed learning habits that made me write the way I write. Now writing for me is not as easy as some people think but at the same time it is not as hard as some people think if that makes sense. Throughout schooling up to now I have done many assignments and essays some long and some short but now that I think about it I haven’t had any real hard lengthy essays. Maybe at that moment in writing that essay or summary I thought of it being difficult but looking back I haven’t really been faced with a hard essay to the point I wasn’t able to write it. Taking state test was a major milestone throughout my middle school and high school life, well not so much in high school because dealing with the fact I had passed all five OGT’s my …show more content…
first time I didn’t have to retake those test every year it was one time and done, but in middle school we had to take those test every single year no matter if you passed or failed that test. Graduating high school one year early was a huge accomplishment for me, and believe me it was a lot of work to do four years of high school in only three years.
While in the process in moving up in life and moving closer and closer to becoming a self-reliant person I had to write essays to get a job and even for scholarships. When writing an essay for a job it was basically like a resume and on that resume was all of your attributes and personal skills and in that resume you wanted to include every piece of information relevant to the job and that I believe could not have been done if you did not have good writing and thinking skills. Now while both writing a resume and writing an essay for a scholarship are both in reality to get money they are two different writing formats. Scholarships is what you want to write your best on, you want to receive that scholarship to receive money for school and without the help of a teacher or tutor that scholarship essay would not be
perfect. With all of this background on writing I believe that as young adults grow into adults their writing should somewhat progress with them because as you get older you will be faced with many obstacles in life that are and will require some adjusting in your writing skills because as you get older more is expected out of you a first grader would not be expected to write a 5 page essay or even a seventh grader but a college student will be expected of that because they have gone through all the training in writing to help them become a better writing. Expectations are higher for those who in a higher level education.
At the beginning of the semester, I had a different idea of what is considered as good writing. In my first rough draft for my first essay, “Post-secondary education and cultural backgrounds”, I demonstrated mostly of my preconceived idea of what good writing is suppose to be. I tried to sound intelligent by asking rhetorical questions and using big words improperly. I noticed that there was no harmony and organization on my essay as a whole. I had no idea what MLA was. With the help of the Writing Center and my determination on continually revising my essay, my scattered ideas developed into cohesive statements. I learned the use of topic sentences, thesis, reference page, page number, and other given structures on writing a paper. As I tried to develop my skills to becoming a good writer, my writing and knowledge has slowly grew into the accepted academic text.
Writing an essay was always the least favorite thing to me. Whether it’s a paragraph or five paragraphs, I hate it write. Whether it’s something fun or something easy, I just hate to write. I specifically chose to be an automotive technician so I don’t have to write much in my life. Writing in my previous experiences just never worked out for me, because my ideas and writing go way off topic. For example, I start writing about one thing and then jump to another thing. Everything I learned about writing from elementary school to high school was taught in many different ways. Like it said in the “College Writing” article, “The way college instructors teach is probably different from what you experienced in high school, and so is what they expect from you.” So why can’t a...
When it came to the process of writing my first, second, and third essay’s, there was clear visual improvement that I have become a better writer in certain aspects. As for essay one, I tended to rely on my writing skills as a high school student rather than use the components of a successful college student essay. This was definite once I received the feedback given by ...
Many of life's lessons are learned through failure. To grow as an individual, a person must accept their failures and use them as learned tools to improve. My personal obstacle has been writing quality essays. Throughout my high school career, I struggled with writing papers. Perfecting my writing skills to years of practice and multiple failed attempts at writing. Failing High School paper helped me become a better writer and allowed me to learn myself.
Writing is a tool that is universally known and used as a primary source of communication. It is a process that is taught, practiced, and perfected throughout the course of one’s life. The process of learning to write begins in your early school years and continues to develop all the way through high school, college, and even beyond college. However, once you get to college writing tends to become a little bit more challenging and is typically more articulate. Writing can help you gain more knowledge and also help you to explore and discover new ideas. In terms of college writing, it is the process of being able to express your thoughts and ideas in an intellectual and effective way.
Many people fail to realize that English writing is a very vital skill that everyone should learn. I always thought that there was not much when it came to writing essays. Usually I am given a topic, I write five paragraphs and then I am done, However, I was wrong. There is more to writing then just writing multiple paragraphs on any given topic. There were many styles and types of essays that I have never done before or knew existed. I was intimidated at first, but my professor provided many activities in order for me to succeed in writing. Many of these activities were intended learn and master different skills so I could become a better writer.
The panic. The anxiety. The feeling that my heart had skipped a couple beats and I didn’t know what to do. I don’t remember the last time I felt so nervous or anxious about anything, but this experience surely would have won “Most Embarrassing” by a landslide. This is how I felt almost every single time I did something that could be considered even slightly awkward or embarrassing.
Is college writing painful and hard to come up with good ideas? English writing is different than other languages, we must follow a series of rules to complete an assignment. First, we need to understand the basics in grammar in order to use them properly in our writing assignments. If we excel in grammar, our essay will be much more lucid and logical to read than it was originally. Writing is a skill that must be mastered through practice; thus, one cannot be proficient at it if he or she does not have enough practice. Despite how hard it is for me to formulate ideas for my essay, every time I sit and concentrate on writing, a multitude of ideas begin to flood my brain. I do not have a tremendous amount of experience in writing because in my country we do not write as much as students do in the United States due to a heavier emphasis on mathematical courses verses English literature. However, what I have come to learn is that writing plays an important role in achieving success in the academic life of a college student.
Writing is one of my favorite things to do in my life. I love it when my awesome teacher gives us a writing assignment. Also, that time I feel so happy because there are thousands of ways to write essays but whatever teacher give us a different way to write essays. In my class, we write differently than another class. First thing we do in class is discussing about other people who wrote essay before with the same topic. Our teacher read aloud in class before, we read by ourself, and annotate every paragraph and write the main idea about the paragraph. Next, we do pre-writing like brainstorming, clustering, focused free-write, summary of TedTalk, vocabulary Log, notes paraphrases and connection for two of the articles also clarify and evaluate
The greatest difficulty that I came across doing the first essay was retracing the past, retracing the sadness. Having to bring back sad memories that made my life terrible at the time. Doing the essay, I learned that I have gone through a lot of crap. I was sinking in quicksand and now I stand on the quicksand like it is rock solid. I am proud of myself. I was able to turn my life around and be the person that I am today. I might have the potential to be a good writer someday. People compliment on my writing skills every now and then when I write something long. That makes me feel like a real student. I say that because an old History teacher of mine used to tell kids to be students when they were not doing their work.
On a summer day in 2001, I stepped up to the plate and stared down the pitching machine. I stood in the batter’s box with an orange shirt that went to my knees, my hair in a low ponytail, bangs that almost covered my eyes and a look on my face that explained I had no idea what I was doing.
The need to write excellent essays is more important today than ever. Well-written essays can earn scholarships, change hearts and open doors once closed by bigotry and prejudice.
High school is short time period in our lives that allows us to find our identity, discover our beliefs, and grow as a person. I have experienced numerous encounters in high school that have shaped me into who I am today and have ultimately prepared me for college. However, I believe that learning to balance the different aspects of my life while in high school is what has positively prepared me the most for college. I have always taken Pre-Ap and Ap courses in school. Along with these classes comes an overwhelming amount of responsibility and homework. I was also a member of my schools’ varsity volleyball team for three years. Being invested in this team required long practices, late game nights, and weekend tournaments. In addition to volleyball, I pursued my faith.
I learned that trust is crucial in relationships and one split second decision, can change relationships tremendously. All of my life I have spent my summers in Sagamore Beach Massachusetts. I am part of a third generation to do so. I’ve known Anna, Nikki, and Abi my whole life. Anna and Nikki are a year older than me and Abi is a year younger. In the past few years we have grown closer to one another. We spent everyday together, told each other everything, and trusted one another with our lives. At least that's what I thought.
As I stated in my previous reflective essay, I hated writing in grade school. I sucked my teeth and groaned every time my teachers assigned an essay for homework. I don’t actually hate writing. I just disliked it because I never excelled in it. I wrote just to get the job done, but never took the time to pay attention to the writing process and the other aspects of writing. As I grew older and got a career, I realized how important writing was in the real world. From friends revising your status updates on Facebook that were plagued in grammatical errors or writing a professional email to your boss, writing skills are crucial to the real world.
