Becoming a good student for most is not an easy task. One may be asking if there is a definite way to distinguish a good student and the answer is it 's merely impossible to say a student is considered “good” based on only one factor. Many people define good students as kids who have the best grade in the class. Since most of the time this is true, grades can only be looked at as a single way of how we define the term “good”. We must remember that even poor students can earn high grades occasionally, thus proving why grades are not the best indicator of a student’s quality. For example, I 've noticed students who arrive a few minutes early to talk to the professor about upcoming class materials, future tests or homework have a better chance at fully understanding the subject rather than just learning it once. Good students pay attention during the time they are in class and take notes on whatever the teachers are discussing that day. Giving back in the sense of volunteering or stating one 's point of view in class clearly distinguishes the average students from the golden students. If a student can find a happy medium between speaking and listening they will be able to make their point but also listen to any others view from their fellow peers that they may not have known prior. Balancing the characteristics of a good student will not only lift them out of the average student range in some of their classes, but it will also carry on through his or her adult life making a job or a career even better. Becoming an excellent student early on in one 's lifetime is the best way to learn the discipline needed because it 's something that will be pushed onto the student by the parents very young, rather than trying to teach oneself self discipline. Defining a student by their grades is not a good way to understand the student and how they are learning but watching the choices that they make in academics is the key to defining who has what it takes to proclaim the good student
Chapter one of Ten Traits of Highly Effective Principals opens with one of the most influential traits of what an effective principal should possess, the communication trait. To be successful in any venue in life, you must be able to communicate with people; this is especially true in the education world. Principals are responsible for communicating with people in all walks of life, parents, students, teacher, administrative office personnel and the general public, as an administrator, you must make each of these individuals feel a sense of trust and belonging while communicating with them. Principals use conversations and gesture to build confidence and open lines of communication for learning and growth.
In the article “Making the Grade,” published in Newsweek Magazine, Professor Kurt Wiesenfeld states that students in the modern society believe that they should receive grades based on their desires and potential rather than their academic performance and personal effort. It is arguable that students should be allowed to have some leniency based on the fact that there may be obstacles distracting or refraining them from completing their work. I believe that it is the students responsibility to maintain or improve their grades by implementing hard work, consistency and dedication to their studies.
The article “How to Be a Success” by Malcom Gladwell speaks about how success is something that can be achieved if you put the time and work into it, and how success is not achieved overnight but rather through long hours of constant practice. His article is targeted to more than one group of individuals. The groups of individuals that his article targets are teenage students, young adults, adults, people who want to become an expert, or want to succeed in something they have an interest in and in general society. Seeing this, the ability of grades to influence and create positive and negative roles to students remains to be the responsibility of the educator. Given that grades help manifest a standard for students to adhere to, teachers must try to create an environment where they can facilitate and motivate students to do better (Tomlinson, 2001). By using grades as an instrument for development, it can create a positive perception for students to improve and seek connections with instruction and course content.

We all do things at home that we would never do at work. It could be smoking, imbibing, and many more actions that are not accepted in the work environment but should we be penalized for doing these things outside of work? This is a great question because in this case a plethora of us would be out of a job. The fine line between work and personal life has been wearing away for some time. As work life and personal life start to blur employers are naturally going to endeavor to regulate the comportment of their employees since they now represent their respective compa-nies both in and out of the work place. Regulating people outside of the workplace feels like an assault on individual rights. I can understand some regulation of military or professional sports because their physical condition directly relates to their job performance… but that’s a slippery slope. There are many different types of students. All students have their own way of studying and learning material. A student’s attitude is the most determining factor in how well a student performs academically. Some students are eager to learn and try their best; however, some students could care less about learning. Each year students decide whether they will succeed or fail in school. All students fall into one category or another. Students can be classified into three categories: Overachievers, Average Joes, and Do Not Give a Rips.
In the classroom, I want to be the same as most of the teachers I’ve had throughout high school, however, I also want to be different. Sets High Expectations: My high school AP English teacher is a good example for this characteristic. She would not tell us that our work was great if it was not. She always told us what we needed to work on and made sure that we did the best we could. She made sure that we knew what was expected of us and stayed on us until it was done. The good teacher works with all students.A friend of mine told me how her maths teacher tolerates only students who are good at mathematics or those who have special interest in the subject.Towards the rest of the class my friend says she`s very exacting.She gives homeworks and tests without bothering to ask about difficulties.She doesn`t try to explain it and as a result many students keep getting bad marks.
There are many rules to being an outstanding student. It all comes from the effort and understanding of the student in the course or class. The student does not have to have a specific talent or such to be able to achieve this level. He or she should remember that practice makes perfect and that the first try is not always the best. In order to be an outstanding student, he or she must turn in their work on time, follow directions correctly, and always puts their time and effort in their work.
One good quality a teacher should have is, respect for the students. Each person’s ideas and opinions should be valued and not judged. They should be able to express themselves without feeling insecure. Another good quality is, having high expectations for your students. Each student should be encouraged to do their best and achieve goals that they may have never met before. Another good quality is, I believe a teacher should have is good communication skills. They should keep not only the students informed on what is going on in the class, they should definitely keep the parents informed as well. Teachers need to know how to communicate with all their students because some are at different levels than others.
