Everyday I get to come home to the fresh smell of homemade food of which my mom cooks. I get to wake up to the bright sun in the morning and the fresh breeze that flows through my long hair. I get to see the mountain view from my bedroom that glows in the distance. I get to go to school and have the opportunity to learn and meet new friends. I get to have a phone that allows me to look up anything that I wish and have answers within seconds. These are things that many people do not think about in America and people don’t realize how many things we take for granted. A few summers ago I went to the Philippines which is where my mom's family is from. This is the moment where I realized how lucky I was to live in America. like it before I went there. When I got to the Phillipines I could smell smoke and then I saw a bright orange flame engulf heaps of trash. Debris and flies roamed the whole city. I was excited to see a clear blue ocean full of beautiful fish and corals but it wasn’t what I expected.
Brown water filled with trash surrounded people's houses. It was quite odd to see people washing themselves and their clothes in their own drinking water. Not only was there trash everywhere, but there was stray dogs and cats with diseases wandering the city. I have always loved animals and to see this made me heart broken. This one dog had his ribs poking out of his skin and black spots covered his body which looked like it was flees. I fed the dog a part of a chicken and he ate the whole thing and even swallowed the bone. Usually dogs in America would not eat a whole bone but these dogs were starving and dying. Further, the houses were like little wooden shacks. They looked like they were about ready to fall over and the wood looked like it was rotting. The roof of the house was a flimsy piece of metal that wouldn’t keep rain out very well. The people still had smiles on their faces while they wash their clothes in the murky water. These people are happy and they don’t have anything. One day in the Philippines I was sitting in a taxi and I hear this tapping noise on the window. I kind of freaked out because it was creepy to just turn around and see someone knocking on your window while you're sitting in …show more content…
traffic. A depressed little girl looked into the taxi and still continued to knock. I just ignored her but then I started to feel sorry for her. My mom finally rolled down the window and gave the poor kid money. The little girl didn’t even have any shoes and she just needed money to buy her family food. Many people in the Philippines barely make enough money to support their families because there is no minimum wage. This forces children to go out and beg in the streets or sell random things to visitors from other countries because nobody else who lives there would buy it. After experiencing my trip to the Philippines I am thankful for everything I have and I do not take anything for granted.
When I saw the horrible environmental conditions I wanted to become a wildlife biologist because I truly care about the animals in our world like the poor cats and dogs I saw. I have always had a passion for the environment and I think our own country could even see improvement in the environment. This experience has changed my view on life and has taught me to be thankful for this life I
have.
I remember the first time I came to America; I was 10 years old. Everything was exciting! From getting into an airplane, to viewing magnificent, huge buildings from a bird’s eye view in the plane. It was truly memorable. After staying few days at my mother’s house, my father and I wanted to see what Dallas looks like. But because my mother was working the whole day, it wasn’t convenient for her to show us the area except only on Sundays. Finally, we went out to the nearby mall with my mother. My father and I were astonished after looking at a variety of stores. But after looking at different stores, we were finally tired and hungry, so we went into McDonald’s. Not being familiar with fast food restaurants, we were curious to try American
To be an American means more than just living in the country for a set amount of years. It means more than being granted citizenship, and more than just waving a Boy Scout American flag in your yard on Memorial Day. To be an American is to be free, and that is what we as Americans sometimes take for granted and forget. Being an American isn 't just living in the "greatest country in the world", there are plenty of other countries that say the same exact things. There are far less countries in this world, though, that are free, and have the American mindset. Not many countries employ so many freedoms and have the 'American dream '. The American mindset is not just something that
Every person has an American Dream they want to pursue, achieve and live. Many people write down goals for themselves in order to get to their dream. Those never ending goals can range from academic to personal. As of today, I am living my dream. My American Dream is to become a nurse, travel to many places, have a family, and get more involved with God.
America offers so much to the people who live in the U.S., but America will always be full of criticism, violence, and people who are offended by everything. America still seems to manage to be one of the world's best nations. The first Americans planned America to be as successful as it is, but for America to be more peaceful. America is not one of the most peaceful places, but it is not the most dangerous place to live. Even political parties lie and cheat each other. A lot of the Americans are greedy, because they take advantages of what America offers to their citizens. Even though America is not perfect I am still glad to live in the U.S.
The first word I think of when someone says America is Freedom. Freedom is very important to this country. A majority of the people here either came here or are here for freedom. People fought to have freedom from Britain. Without it, I might not have been able to go to a Christian school and church. We have many different freedoms such as freedom to vote for presidents. I am very thankful that you can put your own opinion into the government. Not all countries
Our founding fathers, historians, and regular people have worked hard, fought valiantly, and died to create the country that hundreds of millions of people live in today. People, like George Washington, helped to sculpt a brand new, unprecedented democracy that allows Americans to live freely and happily. When someone is lucky enough to be an American, it means that they are part of a country where they are free, where they have rights and responsibilities as US Citizens, and where they know when to be a leader and when to be a follower.
Dreaming and producing a better future for themselves and for generations to come is what makes anyone an American. Without America being the safe haven for people whom grown up without certain privilege allowing them to fight for a better future for themselves and their children to come, there would be no hope. Many could never dream of building the amount of self-determination that are ancestors, leaders and parents had to work for in order for us to live our own American dream. Being an American means more than cheap food and good tv shows. For now when people think about America as a whole we want them to think of the vast culture, hard work and determination people put together to making this one place our home.
This summer, I went to India to visit my relatives after nearly six years. I remember moving to America and thinking I will face so much discrimination, but currently, I feel the opposite when leaving for India. Of course, people in India would be the most accepting of their type right? Turns out I couldn’t be farther from the truth.
I’ve lived in Palestine the first eleven years of my life. I stayed there and went to school
If I was not living here, I do not know if I would be able to go to college or have a job outside of the house. America is also a place for many different type of people to have opportunities they would not normally have living in a different country. This is something I love about living in America. As long as your obey by the rules and laws of this county, you can have the same opportunities that we get as
It was a Sunday morning when I woke up by the morning shiver and with the sweet smell of tea filling the room. I woke up with a yawn but still laying down because I was too lazy to get up. I stood up quickly almost losing my balance when why mom yelled my name. “Come down stairs I have good news for you” said mom. I went down stairs I saw my parents drinking green hot tea and watching news on the television. I walk toward the table distracted by the chaos of different loud noises like the news, my brothers watching cartoon, and my sister whining. I greeted my parents, as I passed them I heard someone saying “can’t wait to move” excitedly.” After finishing my delicious breakfast I ask my mom, where are we moving? “We are moving to America” with
...e a veterinarian because I always wanted to know how to help them. But I also know myself well enough that I'm very emotional person that has a hard time handling animals being put down. If we pay close attention to the animal’s behaviors, we will notice they offer many lessons for human beings. Such as they make love last, loyalty, they find love in hopeless place, they help each other out, they can sense others feelings, they respect their elders and they exhibit signs of empathy and compassion. Therefore, the American Museum of Natural History in New York was an interesting and amazing place to visit and to learn. I learned new things about my favorite and different animals. As a final point, I believe as biologists, we still do not know many things about the natural history of many animals, and behind each animal lies a hidden story waiting to be discovered.
In reference to “Behind the Beautiful Forevers” Kathrine Boo shares with the world her experiences in the highly unsanitary Mumbai Slum of Annawadi. Many of her experiences involved scavengers or “trash pickers” and their lack of access to hygienic resources provided by the government. Life to these people is affected by the sewage lake on the slum border. To these people “Sewage and sickness looked like life” (Boo 5). Boo points out a slum dwellers herd of goats that have been affected from drinking the sewage lake water. “Contractors modernizing the airport dumped things in the lake, Annawadians also dumped things there: most recently, the decomposing carcasses of twelve goats” (Boo 7). This lake exposes the people of the slum to disease, some of which from mosquitos carrying malaria.
...servation of wildlife and environment and although my main passion is dealing with the North American species I love reading and learning techniques such as this program that may help with projects in North American one day. Something to take from the zingela conservation project is that if you incorporate the support from the local population and show a strong passion to help teach others you can have great success. One thing that was done in this project that I found to be very beneficial not only for the wildlife species but helped the public as well is the idea of volunteering at public and local schools to help teach the importance of conservation. I feel that it is very crucial to teach the youth about the role of conservation and how important it is to be ethically and morally sound in regards to the environment and the wildlife that it encompasses.
Environmental studies is a paramount field to focus on for both the present day and the future. This field of studies pertains to all people, animals, plants, and biomes around the world. Environmental Studying is important because it is only by understands the environmental processes that we can begin to take the steps necessary to correct the on-going damage that is occurring, and ultimately protect and sustain life on the planet. Unless steps are taken to try and abate and control environmental problems, which are often human-generated or exacerbated, then the environmental that we live in will continue to deteriorate. There is no life without protecting the source that sustains us. Even though I have only been alive for seventeen years, it has been long enough to see many negative environmental changes. Since I was born that population has grown by over one billion people causing deforestation, loss of wildlife, increased pollution to both air and water, and even superbugs. However, I have also been able to see extremely positive results such as an increase in the research and implementation of renewable resources. The reason I am so motivated to study environmental science is because I know that change is possible. Those who study environmental science and study have the ability to help reduce, and possible reserve, some of the damage that has been done to the environment while at the same time, helping to advance the well-being of our fellow humans.
