What does it mean to be able to live in America? What does America mean to you? Many people have different thoughts when someone asks the question, what does America mean to you. America has several meanings, but when I think of America I think of freedom, religion, and our founding fathers. There are many other words to describe America, the words I choose is what I think is most important about America. In this essay I am showing what America means to me. These are all the words that come into my mind when someone says America. The first word I think of when someone says America is Freedom. Freedom is very important to this country. A majority of the people here either came here or are here for freedom. People fought to have freedom from Britain. Without it, I might not have been able to go to a Christian school and church. We have many different freedoms such as freedom to vote for presidents. I am very thankful that you can put your own opinion into the government. Not all countries …show more content…
Having a freedom of religion is very important to me because I am Christian. I am blessed and able to go to a Christian school, which I might not have been able to do if this country wasn’t here. Religion is a big part because you don’t have to go to a certain church or school. It is a big part of why people come here for the freedom of religion. I have gone to a Christian school my whole life so it makes me more thankful that we have the freedom of religion. Christianity is part of my house and family, without it everything would be a lot different in my family and in this county. Many people are religious and many people aren’t, but you aren’t forced to have one religion which is good. Christians are able to spread God’s word to people all over because we have freedom of religion. Even Our four fathers were religious. “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians
What does it mean to be an American? Being an American is much more than the idea of freedom and money. Everyone has their own version of the American Dream as expressed by poets, musicians, and even authors. I believe the American Dream is still possible because it takes hard work and dedication to be able to achieve what you want. I also believe the American Dream is starting from the bottom and working your way up to something more, something better. Below are a few of America’s voices from the great melting pot.
Writer Marilyn Vos Savant once stated, “What is the essence of America? Finding and maintaining that perfect, delicate balance between freedom ‘to’ and freedom ‘from’.” When you are an American, freedom is just one of the multitudinous privileges that come with the package. Benefits such as rights, the pursuit of happiness, and diversity are some additional perquisites. However, everything has flaws and America has a few.
During the Washington D.C. trip I got to learn so much about the foundation of America. I also developed a greater understanding of the history behind America and how it started. Liberty, Hope, Acceptance, Recognition, Bravery, Courage, Honor, Independence, and Integrity are all words that can describe what is so great about America. The words that describe the meaning of America to me is acceptance, freedom, and honor.
What is the American flag and what does it represent? For many Americans the flag represents freedom, pride, and justice. Our flag stands for freedom because of the many lives that had to be lost throughout history for us to be the nation we are today. The American flag stands for pride because of the many American soldiers men and women who lost their lives for us. Lastly, our flag stands for justice because in the United States no matter what crime we do we have the right to a fair trial.
There are not many countries around the earth that not only give the people the right to any religion, but also the right to express themselves however they like. Especially allowing the people to say, write, think, and argue whatever they please, even about the government. Most governments forbid the bashing of the government or heads of government by the people. In several countries it is penalized by death. Again, to have a choice of what we say and write is what makes us American. Some governments put to death to those that actually express an opinion. So this is what it means to be an American. To have the freedom to speak what we 're thinking, to say what 's on our mind. To express our feelings and ideas and opinions without fear of punishment. The worst we could ever fear as an American who speaks their mind, is ridicule from peers. This is what it means to be an American; to have the privilege and right granted to us to speak freely. To be able to have our own opinions and speak our mind is one of the huge keys to opening the door to being an
What makes an American an American? Is it the accent, the clothing, the fact that you
What does it mean to be an American? To me, what it means to be American is to Pledge Allegiance to your country, to proudly boast that you live in a country that has a justification for existence, to be given opportunity. Although there are many definitions of what it means to be an American, does being an American really just mean being successful in society? The point of this essay is to describe the different meanings and my feelings of what it is to be “American”.
Freedom is something that is not taken lightly in our country. With so many people in America, and so many different religions and views, there will never be a way to make every single person happy. People have the right to believe what they choose, say what they want to say, and do what they want to do. They have the right to worship and take part in ceremonies they choose. It is not for the government to tell them how to live their life. There may be restrictions on certain things but they do not require you to believe a specific way. America is a privileged nation and a free country and the people have every right to be thankful for all the freedoms we have been given.
What does it mean to be an American? Can this statement ever really be defined since America is a melting pot of different races, religions, political views, social views and so on and so fourth. To be an American can mean virtually anything and whether or not somebody supports national symbols is just another part of being and American. As Americans we have the right to disagree with the government, the right to protest against something unjust, the right to burn a flag in disgrace because after all we have freedom of speech. To some these things are un-American, but to others they are the reasons America is such a wonderful place to live. There is no definite answer to this question, but many different possibilities.
America, often called land of the free, opportunity, but what truly is America has someone actually contemplated it? Well there are certain things that might define America, for example America for some people could be the land of opportunity, There are many reasons why different types of people all across the world might pursue the land of opportunity, America. That one person leaving their home land might be a parent, a parent looking to pursue a better life for their children. A better life than the one they lived. To allow their children to actually follow their dreams and hopes, to be someone in life. Where in America there is truly no limits to what one might become in life, or what one will do with the limitless opportunities.
Being an American has a big picture that can be described in many ways. Personally, being an American is to achieve everything; however, the person next to you may have a different opinion about it. In history, America has been attracting immigrants from different parts of the world to live the full freedom and opportunity. To be an American means much more than living in the United States is to be able to expand the beliefs one has. That is why people view the American Dream.
"Freedom" a word that is expressed for so many reasons and can be interpreted in so many different ways. Freedom is so important to the United States of America, because our country is known to be free. In our country, people are supposed to have the freedom to be able to follow whichever religion that one chooses. Religion plays an immense factor in everyone's lives, this is because, there are several people in the world that believe in different things and they base their lives conferring to the guidelines of their religion. Religious oppression occurs when an individual or a group of individuals mistreat others as a response to their beliefs; religious affiliations or lack of belief. "The tendency of societies or groups within society to alienate or repress different subcultures is a recurrent theme in human history." (Cram101)
America has always been known as “ The Land of the Free”. American’s have so many more freedoms than any other country in the world. The freedom to believe in any religion they please (freedom of religion), say whatever they want (freedom of speech), protect themselves (the right to keep and bear arms), and women rights set America leaps and bounds ahead of many other countries.
Everyone thinks it is good to be American because of there freedom that they fought for in the American Revolution. Yes it is great to be American but sometimes there not really the best at being the most kindest people. Other countries have there own view on Americans some hate us because of the wars that we start sometimes others hate us because they have heard bad things about us.
