Listen While You Work
Ever since I’ve entered ninth grade, I’ve had more homework than my eight years of education. Considering that this year of grades count, I try to get all my homework done and give it my best effort. When I get home from a long day of sports and school, it's hard to concentrate because I like to catch up on social media and socialize with family. When I do my homework I put in both of my earbuds and listen to Spotify with radio stations such as “Pure Pop” or “Rap Caviar” mainly because that's my favorite music to listen to and it makes me feel caught up on the latest music hits. I thought that this music helped me concentrate while I was working but after studying how music affects your brain while studying, I was wrong.
In my opinion, I think that this quote is true and should make a statement to all students that listen to music and study. Obviously if you’re going to have your favorite song on the playlist you’re going to be distracted and want to sing along. This also applies to me, if I’m listening to my favorite artist and typing a paper, my thoughts of the lyrics and my words for that paper get mixed up. Although, if I am working on math homework and listening to music with lyrics, I’m less likely to get distracted from the lyrics because I’m working with numbers. In the end, working with words and lyrics can have a negative effect on your homework and I should switch over to classical
The radio station did this at the end of the semester for the students who were taking finals. Obviously, the directors at the station have read or heard about what classical music can do for your mind while working. In my opinion, I think that this is a great idea and it will benefit the students because no matter what time they are studying, they will have the necessities for a good study hour. “It is possible that music, provoking a change in the learning environment, influenced the students’ motivation to remain focused during the lecture, which led to better performance on the multiple-choice quiz” (Studying For Finals? Let Classical Music Help). I think that by having this radio station available 24 hours of the day, it will motivate students to study for the finals the next day at one in the morning. Many of these articles tell me that listening to classical will help you while studying but the article “Studying For Finals? Let Classical Music Help” stood out to me for the reason that it proves that after listening to music and then listening to a lecture, the music helped the students on the multiple choice quiz because the music helped the students concentrate and jog their
As Bob Marley once said, “One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” Studies shown that classical music, specifically Mozart, help you engage in your studies better and as a result showed high test scores according to a test scientist at Stanford University held. Did you ever imagine how powerful a piece that was composed in the 1780’s could be?
Occasionally music is used as medicine. One scholar shows that music can lower blood pressure, speed up stroke recovery, help you fall asleep, and help relieve pain (Surprising Effects of Music). Many schools provide a challenging curriculum for their students. Music classes would give students a chance to relax. Research demonstrates that liste...
The average brain contains two percent phone numbers, three percent names, five percent knowledge gained in school, and ninety percent song lyrics (source 1). Through music, numerous positive benefits can influence and enhance the effectiveness of a child in and out of school. The most essential benefits that are enhanced, are work ethic, motivation, relaxation, sleep patterns and concentration. A study conducted by the University of California at Irvine in 1993 and again in 1995 was to study the effects of listening to Mozart for ten minutes before taking a test. The results from this study were the students who listened to music before their exams had dramatically improved their scores compared to students who did not participate in heeding to the music
Music in my life is really has become a positive thing. I get to relax when I am stressed out, or it gets me pumped up before I do something that would be hard for me or that would need a lot of work for me to do. If I am studying, I would listen to music that is calming with lyrics or with a very good beat such as dubstep. When I am really stressed out with school, I like to lie down and listen to alternative music such as Fall Out Boy, Cage the Elephant, or Twenty One Pilots to calm me
With so many different cultures, races, religions, personalities, etc., it’s surprising how many fundamental things humans share. Music intertwines us all with its diversity and the effect it has on us. Whether you’re looking to rock out in a dance party, get a good workout in, sleep soundly, study hard, recover from a depressive state, or get the thrill of a super scary horror movie, music is there. Although listening to music is thought to be solely a source of entertainment, it can be used to improve almost all aspects of our everyday life.
Without even hesitating I was the first one to raise my hand in writing this coincidental essay. That’s when I started writing the effects music has had on me while working on school material. Music has helped me a ton, because it’s like the brain telling you, “hey put your earphones back, I’m going to do my best in giving you helpful ideas. Up till this moment a college freshman, I am writing this while listening to a little of music. As if I wasn’t listening to anything, I would have been on the first page writing paragraph
Music surrounds us. We hear it on the radio, at the grocery store, in public places, and in movies. But is music simply entertainment? Is it merely an exploited medium of a multi-million dollar, worldwide industry? No. These exceptional sound waves which humanity calls music are more than meet the ear. They powerfully affect the human brain and mind, influencing cognitive abilities and physical and mental functions including Interhemispheric processing, visuospatial processing, and emotions. Engaging with music through playing a musical instrument or listening to certain genres has the power to physically alter and aid the brain due to the brain’s extraordinary property known as neuroplasticity.
music helps the students get a higher score on a test, quiz, etc. Personally I would disagree with
...usic from the Internet. Music can be performed for entertainment, act as a stress relief, and enhance academic behavior.
This makes people confident and willing to do their work. The best type of music for working is classical music with minimal lyrics as it provides the least amount of distractions. Classical music also helps with giving students higher quality sleep so they are rested for work and study. “...classical music, showing that listening benefits the brain, sleep patterns, the immune system and stress levels…” (Engel, 2014.) When students become calm and are well rested they perform their best.
All cultures on Earth have signs of music. Music affects humans in both positive and negative ways. Classical music not only lifts the mood, it also lowers blood pressure and heart rate while bringing the mind into a relaxed state. The mind can then concentrate and stay more alert. All of which enhance the brains ability to learn and retain what it has learned.
If you listen to music in your head it can clear away some boredom and help you focus. If you think about what you want to do later then you can become motivated. If you doodle while working something out in your head it can help focus. If you pretend to have conversations you can become happy because sometimes the conversation get funny. Music can help calm and clear your mind because, music just does that it is a form of entertainment.
Many people enrolled in school or classes today have a tendency to slack off in class and “zone out” due to boredom and lack of concentration. Music keeps students stay interested and focused. It helps the listener stay engaged in whatever they are doing, and in this case, it’s schoolwork. Elana Goodwin, writer for Uloop.com says, “Studies have
...o, I have a different perspective than before I was enrolled in this class. When in the car for example if it wasn’t rap or any kind of R&B I would change the radio station. Or if I didn’t want to listen to commercials I would plug my iPod in with just rap music playing. I have now got out of my selective ways when it comes to music and enjoy listening to different genres.
Listening to music releases dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is known not only for improving mood but also increasing motivation and emotional stamina. But the benefits that come from listening to music affect more than just the way we feel. Studies have shown that when listening to the right style of music at the right decibel level, students have been able to concentrate better. For studying purposes, this mainly applies to classical music. Many school teachers and professors argue that music is simply distracting, or so stimulating that it inhibits a student’s ability to focus. However, when classical music has few words, or as is often found, few English words, the mind isn’t as easily distracted by the meaning or idea of the song. In fact, what is sometimes interpreted as chaotic in classical music can provide a high enough level of exertion for your brain to comprehend, that it stimulates high l...
