People say high school is supposed to be the golden years of your life. I don’t know what else in life is to come; however, my philosophy is to live in the moment and make the life you’re living in the present worthwhile into the future, not only for you but for those who surround you. I live my life participating in our community and getting involved in our school. The activities, and the people I’ve formed relationships with, are what have formed me into the person I am today. The person I am today is not perfect, but I have learned from the mistakes I’ve made.
High school is meant to be the time of your life, but for most seniors just like me it can be some of the most emotional and crazy time. The things in my past make me who I am today, and the things I do now are the first footsteps into the future. I’ve learned a lot about myself in these past four years, and I still have so much learning to do. This is my high school story; the good, bad, and the ugly.
When I was entering into High School, I tried to join as many clubs as I can, since I wanted not only to be superior in grades, but also extracurricular activities. So as usual, I joined Key Club. At first volunteering at the events was fun, but as I went to more events, it felt as if it was a chore. I did not feel any passion; it was rather tiresome.
Throughout my four years in high school I have been fortunate enough to fulfill many of my aspirations and my thirst for knowledge. One goal that I would like to achieve is to become an international attorney. I have aligned my involvement in specific academic and extra-curricular activities to aid me preparing for the long road between my present situation and the day I pass the bar exam. Through my high school activities I have learned three virtues that I have deemed necessary to achieve my goal, passion, self-discipline, and perseverance.
Before I enrolled into SAC, I was a non-fan of sports, nervous, young man, who heard about SAC from a friend in Upper School and has tons of hopes for Grade 9. Something was hold me back to go to SAC. , although that "something” terminated after I knew that everyone were Andrean Brothers and that's why I'm currently aiming to perfect the role of a well-rounded citizen. As they say, “Friends are the most ingredient in the recipe of life”. Friends, like Daniel Zhao, who told me about this school changed my whole life. Everyone seemed to be having the time of their lives, the feeling of being free from high school finally sinking into their minds. Forgetting about all of their problems for the night, and letting loose. My mom always says that I’ll regret this when I grow up; not living the full high school experience. But what is really considered the “high school experience”? It is just going to parties, homecoming dances, prom, and being in relationships? How cliché.
Throughout my high school experience, I've been able to obtain knowledge that I can use to better my life. Some of the classes I've taken have been a blessing in disguise. For example, I never expected to learn as much as I did about writing and literature by just simply reading. Many of my teachers have pushed me to my limits and inspired me to think differently from my peers. In general my best English experience was reading "MacBeth" by William Shakespeare in Mr. Elwell's class, where I also realized I had many English skills to improve on.
Let’s flash back in time to before our college days. Back to then we had lunch trays filled with rubbery chicken nuggets, stale pizza, and bags of chocolate milk. A backpack stacked with Lisa Frank note books, flexi rulers, and color changing pencils. The times where we thought we wouldn’t make it out alive, but we did. Through all the trials and tribulations school helped build who I am today and shaped my future. From basic functions all the way to life-long lessons that helped shape my character.
My High School life has helped shape the way for my college experiences that I will face. My senior year in high school is not the same as many other high school students. I am taking many advanced classes to help me prepare for college. These classes help me better understand exactly how much harder I must work to succeed.
My first day was great, all we did was get introduced and didn’t do any work. I was nervous at first because I thought that I would walk into a wrong class. I think everyone thinks high school is serious, but we all will remember “good morning Hollister high, today’s lunch is a hot dog.” There’s not much difference between middle school and high school.
High school has many problems and many hard obstacles to overcome. Some people study harder or get help, and others quit. They drop out and the problem completely disappears. The dropout rate in the United States alone is 1.2 million and is at a steady increase. Students were asked why they dropped out or what there thoughts were on dropping out of High school and reasons ranged from having mental disabilities and not having help to the fact that they were bored and just didn't feel like going anymore. High school is meant to challenge young adults and prepare them for what life has to come. If a student can't get through four years of High school the consequences are endless. Some consequences such as the ability or opportunity to get a job becomes scarce or the inability to do certain life lessons taught in these classes impact said students in dramatic ways. High school students such as Marcus, Lawrence, Marco, and Sparkle; Whose stories became very public experienced the pros and cons of a high school diploma personally.
In eighth grade, I had my whole life planned out. I thought it through carefully and knew the exact timeline. During high school, I decided that I would get a variety of grades, as all my Taylor Road friends warned me that Northview High School was a school comprised of geniuses, one of which they supposed me not to be. I was also certain that I would continue to play softball all four years of high school, convincing myself to follow in the footsteps of my sister and perform in musicals during the off-season. Following high school, I would major in business, as proposed by my mom,; get married right out of undergrad, as suggested by my grandmother; and ultimately never work a day in my life. This plan that I devised for myself was bliss. I never thought that I would deviate from my proposed scheme. But, then freshman year hit, accompanied by an onslaught of transformation.
At one point in time i went through moments when i didnt feel like doing anything in result i went into a deep dark place. When I was younger, I had a rough time in school I never wanted to go. It started at home and carried on into my schooling.
You know, it is really strange how quickly time passes, after spending my whole childhood wishing I was an adult, now here we are and it's a little hard to grasp. It feels like just yesterday I was standing here in the same position at eighth grade graduation. Ahh, middle school, such a joyous time for all of us, free of maturity and not a care in the world. The biggest decisions I ever had to make then was deciding which group to stand with at passing time and choosing which shirt from my extensive collection of Stussy and No Feat apparel to wear. We were all naive to the danger that lurked just around the corner. We were unaware that the carefree world we lived in was about to come crashing to the ground in a blazing inferno of real school work and responsibility ... otherwise known as high school.
