Title: “Home Economics in Schools” by Anida Danovic Position Statement: Every high school should provide a home economics class. Central Idea: Many students feel like they are moving on after high school with no knowledge of real life situations. INTRODUCTION Attention-getter: A statistic. A new national survey released by Achieve shows that approximately 50% of recent high school graduates report gaps in preparation for life after high school. Audience Motivation: Most of my audience are recent high school graduates, who feel the same way. Credibility: I am a recent high school graduate, just like my audience. We are all going through the same struggles. Purpose Statement: Convince my audience to agree with me, and ask them to write to Parents may have bad communication skills. If they were able to take this class, that may be different, but not requiring this class just passes this on to future generations. [Transition]: Overall, these reasons should be strong enough to have this a required class in all schools across America. CONCLUSION Summary: Today we have seen the reasons on why a home economics class should be required. It would create a stronger future for our children, helps teach quality, and helps the parents that do not have the time to teach their children these things. Visualization: Imagine being able to leave high school with a better knowledge of how to balance a textbook, create a simple meal, pay taxes, or buy a house. We would all be more motivated to have an even more successful future. Challenge: This may be a grand idea that will not happen all over the whole country overnight, but we can start locally. Write to local selected officials and sign a petition. Re-focus Statement: I know that all of us are already out of high school and this doesn’t really directly effect us anymore, but this is something that would help our younger siblings and maybe even future children, which could help create a better future. The authors apply their findings and reasoning to real situations and probability’s. Looking at how the author applied pathos, ethos, and logos, you’ll find that the authors did an exceptional job of applying pathos and logos to enhance their arguments to be more persuasive and accurate. They provided logos in their augments by providing statistical rates and data charts to back up their statements. They apply pathos buy examining real scenarios and showing that sometimes it’s a personal determination that will make you successful in college
In today’s society there is a lot of pressure on students to make this huge payment to go to college, and due to an ungodly amount of money being thrown into universities students feel as though they will be handed a degree in return but that’s not the case at all. In the article “Let’s clarify the ‘College Worth It’ Conversation” by Andrew Kelly he gives the statistics that 45% percent of college students do not finish their degree. High schools need to better inform students interested in furthering their education with these statistics. This can be extremely eye opening to students who think college will be an easy journey with low expectations. I want state legislators to understand that the state standards they are implementing are negatively affecting students’ educational success. Not every student learns at the same pace or is even capable of learning these standards. Individual children are different; and they are forced to guess or fabricate on these tests. Therefore, the Common Core is not achieving anything, and state legislators should take in consideration that children are not benefiting. State legislators are my ideal audience because they have the power to eliminate these state standards. Homeschooling offers flexibility and can be a stress reliever for many. Home school gives children the opportunity to learn when they learn best, whether that be in the morning or in the afternoon. Some children prefer to work alone others with their peers. The parents will determine what their child’s learning style is. If the child need more or less time on a subject then they will have the chance to go over the subject as many time it is necessary for the student to learn it, or in the other hand if they completely comprehend the subject they can make a decision to skip it. A flexible schedule gives these options and many more to students compared to public or private schooling.
After years of research, Dr. Ryan Padgett and Megan Johnson (2012) found that first generation students lack interpersonal skills when entering college because they are unfamiliar on how to interact with individuals who have a postsecondary education. By demonstrating a certain lack of skills before entering college, Jennifer Guerra of the National Public Radio extends the findings of Padgett et al. by stating first-generation students feel out of place when assimilating to their college campus. When I began college I had a small group of friends, but when I was trying to introduce myself to new people it came as a surprise for them that my parents did not attend college. In life, we rarely have the chance for a do-over, but I feel like returning to college is mine. Throughout high school, my grades were never above average and until about a couple of years ago I considered myself to be unintelligent. What I failed to see was my level of commitment. Once I began applying myself, the grades earned reflected that. This concept coincides to my public speaking ability. Many students, including myself, walk into a speech class thinking that it will be the Easy A of the semester and quite frankly I devoted a good amount of time and hard work to earn my A’s and B’s for this course. Overall, my public speaking growth in terms of listenability were influenced by the following: the strategy keys in correctly engaging the audience; the structure keys appropriate for a speech versus a paper; the support keys by continually engaging the audience; and finally the style keys by practicing the use of body language and reducing the verbal junk.
Students differ in shape, size, color, and age. From kindergarten to college, many students are expected to follow a linear educational path regardless of life obstacles and other hindrances. Unfortunately, judgmental and oppressive eyes often intercept any deviation from this path. Lailah Gifty Akita once said, “You are never old to begin self-seeking.” A college education immediately after high school is not the correct path for everyone, as adult students have taken a rise in the collegiate atmosphere. This increase has intrinsically changed career options locally and globally.

In order to graduate with a Core 40 Diploma, in the state of Indiana, one must complete the following: earn eight credits in English, six credits in math, six credits in science, five credits in directed electives (world languages, fine arts, technical classes), two credits in physical education, one credit in health, and only six in electives by choice.... ... middle of paper ... ... One moment you’re entering high school and in the blink of an eye it’s senior year. The thought of college is becoming more and more prevalent in your mind as each day passes. You’re forced to make so many decisions about your future, even though you still feel like a kid. The idea of the future can feel so daunting, so unmanageable. There are so many different paths to take, whether it’s the most common one, or an entirely different one. The hard decisions lay outside your comfort zone and require drive and knowledge to choose. You can choose to take the clear-cut path or venture out on your own. I know that my path is college. In college there are so many opportunities for me to take my own path and become my own person, without letting the politics of high school get in my way. Graduation is an exciting time in a person’s life, especially a high school graduation. When I think of family and friends gathering together to celebrate a joyous occasion, I feel I accomplished my strongest goal. It never occurred to me that graduation would be the end of my youth and the start of adulthood. Graduating from high school was an influential event that gave me an altered outlook on my existence. Life before graduation, preparing for graduation day, and commencement day overwhelmed me for reality.
