Tis the Season When the turkey sandwiches with cranberry sauce gets old, someone will pull out the Christmas cookie cutters and say, “Let’s get to baking.” Even though Santa will be coming in a few weeks, baking Christmas cookies is always the best way to get into the Christmas spirit. Biting into the fresh cookie that was recently dipped in cold milk is a small memory that everyone will remember about Christmas. One recipe that has been in my family forever is known as “Aunt Ethel’s Sugar Cookies.” The recipe was passed down from my Great grandma, to my grandma, to my mom, and now to me. Which one day I will pass on to my children. Once you have taken a bite of these Christmas cookies you will want to continue taking bite after bite. Most …show more content…
I would always ask her to put the cookie dough in the freezer so we could eat the cookies sooner, but she said they would not be the same in the freezer. After about 5 minutes, I would get bored of looking at the clock, so I would leave and watch The Grinch, or Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. While I was watching the movies my mom would be dying the frosting so my brother and I could decorate the cookies after they were baked. We would “help” roll out the dough and cut Christmas shapes in the dough. We would bake the cookies and then decorate them. After the chilling hour is over, you will need to preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. You can now roll out the dough. The dough needs to be somewhat thin but still thick, so the cookie won’t burn when it is in the oven. Using Christmas cookie cutters, cut out the cookie shapes you want and then place them on a greased cookie stone. Let the cookies bake in the oven for about 6 to 8 minutes. While the cookies are baking roll out more dough and cut more cookies. When the last batch goes in the oven, you can now start to prepare the frosting that will be used to decorate the cookies. You can find different recipes for cookies, but my mom and I like to use Betty Crocker’s whipped frosting from the store. If you choose this method you will need 3 tubs of frosting so you can make 3 colors; red, green, and white. You can also use Christmas sprinkles to decorate the cookies as well. Before I dip the cookies in the milk, I like to let the decorated cookies in the refrigerator to make the texture a little

We would get together to celebrate usually at my parent’s house for my mom’s side of the family. At Easter we always had a ham and many side dishes. Thanksgiving always brought a delicious turkey, sweet potatoes, scalloped corn and my favorite cranberry relish. For Christmas we had a ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, glazed carrots, and for desert pumpkin pie. We always had a Christmas tree of some sort with homemade decorations that us kids made. We also celebrated my brother’s birthday since he was born on Christmas Eve. A tradition of my own was to get my parents to let me open one gift on Christmas Eve, because my brother got his birthday presents and I thought it was not
Next, ensemble your vanilla wafers in a large bowl or pan. Lay the cookies in a side to side formation, very close to each other. Be sure to cover the sides of the pan as well.
Opening the refrigerator door, I locate two ingredients: eggs and butter. Grabbing the ingredients, I place them on the island sitting vertically in the middle of my rectangular kitchen. I then walk around the island to a cabinet to find baking powder and vanilla extract. Scanning and searching through all the spices and other items, I see the desired components. Finally, I walk across the kitchen to a cabinet standing high on my tippy toes because the protruding countertop makes the cabinet hard to reach. In this cabinet, I find the flour and sugar. I examine all of the goods on the island. The ingredients needed for a sugar cookie recipe, I have made countless times for the last five years.
They listened to the radio, played ball or checkers. They also played with paper dolls and marbles, or played pick up sticks. They played a lot of Cowboys and Indians and or games they made up. The children also played a game called Root the Peg where they would stick a peg in the ground and you had to get it out with your mouth. My grandmother said that they also had a pocket knife, and they made up challenges you had to do with it.
Form the dough into a disk, wrap with plastic wrap, and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled, at least 1
“All is for the best in the best of all possible worlds.” Is a quote taken from the book Candide, written by Voltaire. The author (Voltaire) is very persistent with this quote, for he wrote it many times throughout the entire book. The protagonist of the story is a character known as Candide, “a young lad blessed by nature with the most agreeable manners.” (Candide, 19), whom Voltaire used to express what he believed were the flaws of the 18th century French society. Voltaire expressed his views by writing Candide, and making the story protagonist travel trough Europe, and other countries, including France, and Eldorado. Voltaire used a very effective strategy to get his view across to his readers of what he believed were the flaws of the French

The longer you wait, the better the result. It is crucial to wait the indicated amount of time to make macarons. If you do not wait for the macarons to dry before placing them into the oven, the macarons will come out gooey in the middle and rock hard on the outside. This process allows for the shell to harden, take shape and release any remaining gas bubbles. While waiting for the shells, preheat the oven to 300 degrees and make sure there is a rack in the lower third.
Use a small dinner spoon to make the perfect sized cookies. Scoop up enough dough on the spoon to cover it, but not too much so that it's more than a few centimeters high off the spoon. Afterwards, place the lumps of dough about two inches away from each other on a cookie sheet. Place the cookie sheet or sheets onto the middle rack in the oven. Finally, bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown. Once the cookies have reached the desired state, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool for about 2 minutes.
