On September 9th, 2014, the prodigal son of the new generation of video games, Bungie’s Destiny, arrived. The wave of hype and hysteria that preceded this game was something of legend. People hailed it as ‘the next Halo’, the ‘hands down game of the year winner’, and even ‘the best video game all time’. It became the most pre-ordered game in history, tallying up nearly seven million preorders around the world, and it has continued to grow and expand its already massive following. As is usual when a game of the year contender comes out, I rushed to GameStop and picked it up as soon as I could. Now that I have beaten the game, I am able to take a step back and ask myself, “Is it really that good”. When I truly consider this question, the words that come to mind are no, not at all. …show more content…
Every single one of them praised the game for its gameplay and skill systems. After each successive review, my excitement grew more and more. I felt like a young boy getting the gift he had wanted for Christmas. So, as soon as the game was installed I delved into the depths and insides of Destiny. The first level opened up with a mysterious robot reviving my previously dead character. I discovered I was being hunted by a mysterious race of aliens, and to get home I had to sneak and fight my way into an abandoned hangar, which just so happened to be infested with the aliens. Sounds good so far, right? That’s because it is. Then I came to a door and my ghost, a robotic companion voiced by Peter Dinklage, said that he must hack into a locked door to proceed farther into the compound. Still not bad, right? You fight off a few waves of enemies, go through the door, find a space ship, and start your adventure to find your destiny (pun intended). The opening got my blood pumping and had me itching for more, so I proceeded to play the rest of the story in a few Mountain-Dew-filled
...xtreme jugg. This game blows all the other games out of the water this game might even have more sales then black ops two.
I understand that it was the author’s first novel and it was great all around but it needed more detail about Sean and his motive for wanting to kill Nina because he was the one who killed his brother and he obviously knew that so why would he go after Nina? In the book it told us that he loved her but I didn’t understand why he would want to shoot her when Sean and Ellie find her? Maybe because while Ellie was on the trip with him he fell in love with her and decided that he couldn’t be with Ellie if Nina was still alive because she was living proof that his brother was dead and it was all his fault. The author needed to read through the book one last time then ask herself what she needed to improve. She was probably rushing through finishing the book and that made it sloppy at the end. Another thing I didn’t like about the book is the random characters that showed up for one page but could have had a deeper explanation for them. Like the Jamies’ and Nina’s friend who was stalking Ellie for her and letting Nina know how she was doing. He could have had a deeper role and be more involved in the story than just a couple
Video games have become a hot topic recently. There have been a lot of controversy over whether to play or not to play. The controversy is due to them being arguably more captivating than all other forms of entertainment. Video games narrate an epic tale like no other form of entertainment can. You can become immersed in video games, because of this they are both a highly entertaining escape from the real world and a complete waste of time.
Although video games have become more and more popular as time changes, it still has to face the criticism, ‘media panic’. Meida panic happens when a new media appears; people will have a highly emotional discussion about it (Drotner, 1999).
ames have been played before we began to record time. Almost 50 years ago, games changed into a new form. Magnavox Odyssey can be debated to be the first game console. Throughout 50 years ago and now, video games have become essential to every living room and a pastime to every young child. Companies have risen from this new industry, to produce games to young investors and dominate the game world. With new technology, graphics, and software: gaming franchises run mostly by public support. Each decade that passes, games are changed by America’s public these games change based on how the public perceives them.
Mixed reviews on the Internet, big cast, multi-angled story, to me it sounded like a few other movies that have treaded the same ground but still very interesting. The talents of Paul Haggis and the exciting casting of Don Cheadle, Sandra Bullock, Matt Dillon, et al, attracted me to this movie and I am thankful that I ignored what the critics have said.
Video games are a valuable part of the world today. They feed the minds of the creative and provoke the minds of the less creative. Violence, immersion, and an unusual setting are all qualities of a game that create an intense and memorable experience for the player. By demonstrating and improving upon the three qualities that were deemed necessary to create a good game, video games could amount to astonishing heights in the future and bring something new to the table that could surprise us all.
67% of U.S. households play video games. In 2012 north of $20 billion was spent on video games, with the amount vastly increasing each year. The worldwide video game industry exceeds $76 billion. It has well surpassed the movie box office industry and is becoming a serious contender with the entire television/film industry. What started off as a diversion for the few has quickly sparked into a mass medium, helping people live, learn, work and of course, play (Galarneau). Video games are now more than just mere games; they hold large influences over society and are almost ever-present in the modern day. In Ernest Cline’s fiction novel, Ready Player One, the future is heavily intertwined with a virtual video game simulation called the OASIS. In the story, the
As we evolve into a more advanced species, so does our technology, and along with our overly advanced technology, comes video games. They’ve have certainly come a long way since they were first introduced to the main stream audience and have been slowly creeping its way into many daily lives, making them a lot more entertaining and less dull. Video games’ one and only purpose is to entertain. However, it is indeed true that everything is fun and games until somebody gets hurt, and that is exactly what has happened over the years in video games. With the help of our technology, being more developed than ever, video games have also become increasingly sophisticated and overall more close to reality than
Video games have been around since 1958, and ever since then video games have developed more. With video games becoming a bigger industry, there have been more people purchasing and buying more and more video games. For examples, up to 2001, “roughly 79 percent of America's youth played video games, many of them for at least eight hours a week” (Layton). Furthermore, in 2008, “97% of 12-17 year olds in the US played video games” (“Video Games”). With a growing industry, there has been more competition between video game companies. The companies that make these video games try to make a huge profit by appealing to people’s likes. In 2008, “10 of the top 20 best-selling video games in the US contained violence” (“Video Games”)
Instead of the franchises popularity having a positive impact, overtime, it infected the gaming market along with it’s consumers and developers such as Microsoft Game Studios and EA. It has become an aggrandized cancer on the face of video games everywhere, destroying franchises a...
Well, since I was a little boy, I have always loved video games. There was something about it that made me feel great. While I didn’t know what it was back then, I believe I have an answer now. It’s about the journey, the adventure of playing a video game. When you pick up a controller or log on to a PC game, you are entering a world of vast possibilities and endless adventures. I’ve had so much fun jumping into the world of a video game. The experience of doing so is unlike anything else. I also play video games for the connection that I get when playing with others. Whether it’s with friends or complete strangers, it can be a lot of fun to interact with others in a virtual world, competing or cooperating with them. It’s also about that first time experience playing a video game. It’s unlike anything else I have ever done in my life. Let’s take Destiny again for example. Destiny’s raids, the quests that I mentioned earlier, not only require a tremendous amount of teamwork and patience but also require a fair amount of skill, as these activities are some of the most difficult activities a player can attempt. Allow me to clarify even more. In Destiny’s raids, there is a boss battle at the end, a final showdown that will prove that our team can conquer anything. They also boast a ton of great loot to obtain at the end. So when our team has been attempting a boss encounter for hours to no avail, it
Video games have come a long way. They have evolved from the simple game of Pong into a complex, multi-platform, multi-genre, multi-billion dollar industry.
In this day and age, video games are a central point of entertainment in today’s society. Everyone loves getting great video games and playing them for weeks on end, but what makes a well developed game so good? I have broken it down into three criteria to help breakdown whether the Naughty Dog production, “The Last of Us”, is worth buying. The first criteria is that the game must contain good characters that make you feel empathy for them. The second criteria is that the storyline should pull the player in, making them feel like they are apart of the story and every choice that is made.
