The presupposition of Preparing for a Career by Derek Bok indicates that vocational majors and liberal arts major should merge to help students prepare for their career. Bok states that vocational college only prepare students for the future, but does not teach students the basic knowledge such as U.S history, English, reading and how to think critically and understand what one’s learning. Time sure does fly; in the blink of an eye, yet another 7.5-week class has come and gone. Just like life, it is scary to think that in just a few short years I will be graduating college and be in search of a future career. The magnitudes of readings, assignments, PowerPoint lectures, and videos have all contributed to the valuable knowledge I have gained since taking this course. Nothing that was presented or required was seen as invaluable towards my progression of career development. This career development course has allowed me to do some self-exploration, career research, and help me understand what influencing factors were related to the job market. Ultimately, this class helped me gauge and find a suitable career path, which will forever shape my future.
“The American Dream is that dream of land in which should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement,” (Adams,“The Epic American Dream”, 1931, pg 214). Reading this I had to translate this quote for myself. I got that the American dream is that every American citizen can be successful and prosper in this great nation if he/she puts in the hard work, possesses determination, and the required skill. Such ideal, I think carries a lot of weight and promise to those who take advantage of the opportunity. However this dream is slowing dying.
The most formidable aspect in real estate has to be maintaining one’s career. Although there are many agents in this career field, the competitive environment portrayed daily makes this career one that may prove to be unsuitable for the meek. Negotiations, persuasion, debate and often a frequent contest for supremacy in the agency are recurring tasks when trying to sell property to clients. One could think of this as similar to the board game “Monopoly”, in reverse. Rather than trying to own all the property around, these “players” attempt to sell as much land as they possibly can. Those who fail to recruit an adequate amount of clients find it hard making it “past go” and often fail in the agency or, much worse, lose their jobs. Prospective agents should spend a great deal of time enhancing their communication skills either by taking classes in public speaking or perhaps even joining a debate team. Such laborious duties make it apparent s that being a successful real estate agent is for more difficult than it seems.
Well the year of 2011 is when I actually thought about real estate. Watching the first couple of episodes of ‘The Property Brothers’ I was hooked on the thought of flipping and selling my own houses. Really just the thought of being self employed and not working a hourly paying job was the icing on the cake. The job duties and personal characteristics for a real estate agent are really good for me personally which I will discuss. Education and the work setting will also benefit me in many ways. The wages and employment outlook really don't apply to me which I will also touch bases on. At this point I will begin to analyze the research I’ve obtained on the occupation of real estate.
Among all the programs available, I firmly believe that the Master in Finance program at Princeton University will be the ideal preparation for my career because of its strong emphasis on quantitative techniques with practical business problem solving. The core courses offered by the program will help me build concrete foundation in financial theories and computational methods; the elective courses, such as Forecasting and Time Series Analysis, will further enhance my modeling techniques for financial forecasting in a broader application. That’s one of my best decision’s thus far and most likely one of my top 5 best decisions I will make in my entire life. Giving up is something I’ve thought about often. Sometimes when things don’t work out in your favor or maybe you just fail, it makes you feel small, minimized, and disturbed. I’ve learned that if I feel any of those ways, changing my negative into a positive is best. Not just any positive, a positive that benefits me and my future. So when I get down, I watch Property Brothers. Not only are Drew and Jonathan gives me an extensive look into interior design, they’re also a great tool to help me gain not only enlightenment but knowledge watching their show. The fact that they’re hilarious is just an added bonus.
My choice in "track" I'm identifying with is literary agent. Most publishing companies would tell you to go through a literary agent first! Because a lot of companies no longer accept writers sending in their work on their own. My choice in literary agent would be Browne & Miller Literary Associates. For me a literary agent is the start and finish for an author. Because they represent writers written work to publishing companies, film producers, film studios etc. They assist in the deals, negotiations, sales and authors public recognition. They also help publishing companies accelerate the publication, review and the distribution of an author's work.
Becoming a financial analyst will allow me to enjoy a career in the finance field that pays well and also offers ample opportunities. The position of a financial analyst is growing very fast and so there are more opportunities for me to become a financial analyst. Being a financial analyst will not only put me in a powerful position within the organization but it will also teach me skills that I need about investing for my own financial life. Some of the qualifications for the career that I already have include a bachelor’s degree in finance, technology experience (Microsoft word, Microsoft outlook), skills such as maximization of work practices, and quality vigilance. One qualification that I need for this position is the ability to turn data into information. Since this position requires past experience and I have none, I can undergo training so that I can be at par with the job functions and requirements. Despite the fast growth of the job, though, there is stiff competition and even though I will most likely get this job with my bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree will help me stand out among my competitors and it will also be a wise investment for me since I have my eyes on a financial management position at one point in
Practice makes perfect. It is hard for me to say where I improve and where not. Although its only 12 weeks’ class, I have learned a lot and broadened my horizon. I could hardly write a simple sentence before I start my composition class. Look now I have already write four papers, reflection in the mid-term exam and now final portfolio. Beside the papers I have learned grammars. Wow! I cannot believe my progress. Now I can talk to people more confidently and more accurately. In the course of time I have enjoyed a lot writing the papers. There was a day or even a week I struggle for a single paper and days where I finished my papers in a couple of hours.

At first, I was thinking Administrative Professional but, my heart is steering me towards Human Resources Generalist. I have been taking classes for the Administrative Professional and was going back and forth and couldn’t decide. Most of the classes I have taken can be used for both goals. I was trying to avoid Human Resources because of the math class that is a requirement because I’m scared of math. After talking with the counselor and telling her that I enjoyed dealing with employees by handing out pay checks to employees, made employee schedules, photo-copied and handed out to employee’s schedules, filing employee records and handing them vacation slips, printing out forms for what the employees needed, and looking up answers in the policy
My first goal is to continue my education by earning a Master’s degree in Accounting right after completing my bachelor’s degree. The MSU’s Accounting program attracts me for both its reputation and its career opportunities available for international students. It is my responsibility as a future accountant to be really familiar and proficient at the tools accountants use regularly. My areas of interest outside academics include activism and service. Growing up in a country with no freedoms, I have enjoyed political sphere in American more than others. My activism in politics is focused on bringing minorities equal housing and access to quality early care. The housing system has determined the living standards for minority communities, so to improve the living standards people have to advocate for equal housing. Access to quality early care has been what has determined people’s success later in future whether it is in job aspect or pursuing highest education level. What I have seen from minority communities is that if community doesn’t raise the problems to their leaders change can’t come. I believe one way to solve that
I have 14 years of real estate experience, which commenced in 2003 when I joined Trammell Crow as in the Property Management division. Subsequent to leaving Trammell Crow, I worked as a General Manager of a small development and multifamily acquisition and management firm. During my 5-year tenure in property management I manged a $100 million + portfolio consisting of more than 400 Class A and Class B units in Northern VA and DC. I now am a Principal and Co-founder of The Harbane Company, a boutique investment firm focused on real estate.
