Personal Narrative: A Career As A Counselor

When I was in middle school, I had a rough time. I was emotionally distraught and confused about myself and where I fit in the world. My parents divorced when I was eleven, and my Dad diagnosed with PTSD was in and out of the picture. My mother tried to help but she was at a loss. Finally our family Doctor gave her the name of a child therapist. This woman was amazing! She listened without judgment and offered solutions to help soothe my raging emotions. Furthermore she helped me realize it was acceptable to be who I was. She validated my feelings, and she ultimately changed my life. That was the moment I knew I wanted to be a counselor. My life has taken me down many different paths. I am not the typical grad student. I am nearly 41, married
