As a resident adviser (RA) on campus, I am required to stay later and complete room checks for my floor before the start of each break. Back in March, I signed the offer and one of the conditions is that I am required to be available on specific dates in order to perform certain duties. Additionally, the job puts a strong emphasis on prioritizing the RA position and because the terms were clear in the contract and we received it well in advanced, we were held accountable to their dates and duties (unless there is a case of emergency). This past weekend, my friends and I were looking at Spring Break plans and we found a cruise from New Orleans to Mexico. Everyone was on board for the cruise besides me. The sail date conflicted with the date
I was required to perform room checks. Knowing that a cruise is not a mandatory commitment or an emergency, I prepared a plan to negotiate with my Area Coordinator, who is my supervisor. On Monday, January 15, 2018, I met with my supervisor. I came into the meeting with a proposal and several points I knew I wanted to highlight. I began my negotiation by asking, “What would happen if I missed Spring Break closing? What are the biggest concerns and how can I make it up?” I continued by bringing up the fact that I am Senior and I have not missed a single closing before and I am looking at a cruise that sails on the day of closing. Additionally, I offered to take an extra shift of closing during the end of the semester. I also talked about how I had to alter my Spring Break plans in the previous years because I knew that I had prior RA commitments. My supervisor said she understood the situation and would hate for me to miss the trip. My supervisor said that she appreciated the compromise and the effort I took to take an extra shift of closing during the end of the semester. She mentioned that this could work if I did some room checks the day before closing and found a replacement to finish up my rooms on the day of closing. I agreed to these conditions. Ultimately, this was a win-win situation where my supervisor and I were happy with our choices even though I had to make a small sacrifice.
But even though you packed and then overpacked for a destination, something unexpected can always happen. In the story, The Voyage of the James Caird, Ernest Shackleton and his men could not have prepared more than they did for their ship to sink in the Arctic Circle. They piled aboard a lifeboat where they sailed to reach a whaling station but the journey was very hard on them. Their equipment just wasn’t enough to keep up with what the ocean was throwing at them. Worsley, one of the members on the boat with them wrote that their while their coats kept them warm against the wind, they did nothing against the freezing temperature of the water splashing on their backs every five seconds.
3.1 The term of this agreement shall be for six (6) months from January 2018 to July 2018; however, early termination may be a factor if the employee fails to meet the terms in Article V.
The career path I’m most interested in is counseling psychology, specifically mental health counseling. My interest in counseling began my freshmen year of high school when I had to do a project on what I wanted my future career to be. At the time, I had no idea what I wanted to do and a family friend suggested I look into music therapy. That sparked my interest in going into the psychology field and once I thought about how much of an impact I could make in people’s lives by doing counseling, I’ve never wanted to do anything else.
During the Cold War the United States missed a lot of the analytical clues. These short comings were at all levels of the Intelligence field and the political figures as well. Some of the ideology on the American side was that the Soviets were incapable of getting their Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) within range of the United States while the communist factions in South America and the Caribbean were conducting revolutions against democratically elected governments. Operation Anadyr was designed to mislead Russians and foreigners all together about the destination of Russian military equipment. How could the Russians outsmart the United States and its Allies by smuggling nuclear weapons onto an island 222 miles away from the United
“As one person I cannot change the world, but I can change the world of one person.” I relate to this quote by Paul Shane Spear because it mirrors how I feel about pursuing a career in nursing. I want to be able to help others as much as I can. Arriving to this career choice was not a simple decision for me. What influenced me most in wanting to be a nurse was helping my grandfather during the past several years, and helping him through different illnesses and surgeries. My grandfather, who I call Papa, lives with me and my immediate family. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to help him because he and I are very close and he is my best friend. Through my involvement in helping him heal from his medical challenges, I was able to come
Along with creating steps which will lead me towards my ultimate career goal, the creation of a specific five-year plan for myself was key. In five years I will be in school, hopefully in my final year of my Masters degree; a plan which seems so simple to achieve, however requires an extensive amount of hard work and dedication. Being so far in my academic career already, I will hopefully have worked in summer internships or been employed during the year by a speech-language pathologist or various health institutions to gain experience in the profession and potentially become full time employed by one of these institutions post-graduation. Within the five years, I will have as well established networks and built relationships with multiple
“So, when I didn’t get it my next goal was to get it.” Adrianna stated with a gleam in her eyes, as if the thought of rejection was motivation to move forward. Apart from being involved in housing, a few clubs and programs she has done has been Key Club as well as being a discussion leader for Undecided and Undeclared. It was becoming a discussion leader that led her to want to focus her intention to becoming a Resident Advisor specifically for students under Undecided/Undeclared majors. “I identify as one as well, so when I was applying my second time I was a lot more intentional to when I was applying to that sort of audience.” Adrianna, is currently a triple major in Criminology, Law and Society, Political Science, and Education. Her second
You know, that sort of thing. If my obligations are met, I earn my compensation by the end of the week. That is the standard and how I earn my wages. If I do not meet my obligations, then my wages are held. My other obligations are compromised – food, rent, shelter.
I, Leonard Trzaska moved into 9781 Shadymill Avenue on May 4th, 2015. A month after I moved in my wife decided she wanted a divorce and she wanted to leave me. So I called up Nicklin Property Management and spoke to Lisa Lewis, which I believe is the move out coordinator. I asked what I could do to get out of the lease without breaking it since I was dealing with an unexpected event in my life. She told me that if I move out and soon as possible, clean up the house, and submit the keys and garage door openers. The sooner it could be put on the market and the sooner they could find someone to lease it out. I was moved out of the house by June 15th. In the mean time she told me I would have to pay rent until it could be leased out, so I did.
And now together, I and Derrick, spending our precious holiday on this blasted island that always give me the creeps. It would be fun spending it at Chicago with my parents if they hadn’t gone there to attend a serious business meeting. You can’t blame them, thought, this trip is very crucial, make one mistake and it would affect the whole company.
Being asked to not come to the office from the next date or from a certain date is the last thing you ever want to hear. But when the time comes, you can't react properly. The only thing that goes in your mind during such time is “what wrong have I done to receive a pink slip.” Unfortunately, you will
A leave of absence should be requested for the exact number of days needed, if known, not to exceed thirty (30) days at a time. Leave extensions, not to exceed thirty (30) days, may be granted under extraordinary circumstances. The employee must request an extension prior to the termination of the previous leave. The total duration of a leave should not exceed six (6) months within one year of the leave start date. At that time, the employee is subject to termination; however, termination is not automatic.
Most people will not think twice about their calendar. However, calendars have played an earnest role for a multitude of people throughout history. Without this, our concept of time and our cultural values would be different. People from now of ancient civilizations have relied on calendars for keeping time within their culture.
My friend, Chelsea, and I were planning on going to camp together one day to visit our friends who were coming up from Lower Michigan. We were arranging this trip for months, and we finally got all of our stuff packed a couple days before we were supposed to arrive there. We had everything planned out fairly quickly. We would be taking my car because of the better gas mileage, and I would be driving there and back. We got up extra early that morning to start driving; we wanted to get there earlier than everyone else so we could get our tent set up. We planned on staying there for one week; we went thro...
My practicum experience is at a not for profit, sliding scale organization. We get referrals from area crisis organization as well as primary care physicians. Senior staff carefully screens all of our clients. Novice practitioners are not assigned to individuals who may have suicidal ideation or complex conditions. However, these conditions are not always easily assessed during the phone screenings. If during an assessment or session if the client exhibits an emergency such as described by our text as suicide, threatening violence or other issue which is concerning to the student, we are to call our supervisor on the phone, we are not to leave the client alone (Russell-Chapin, 2016). We have an older phone system with an intercom system
