Moving out, meeting new people, enjoying the atmosphere you live in, challenging yourself, and getting the best education possible for yourself. That is what I am currently doing at Furman University; however, the road to arrive here was long and challenging. Naturally, my father was concerned about the cost of college, not Furman in particular, but college in general. Both my mother and I knew college wasn’t going to be cheap, especially for the experience I wanted. I was tasked with selling my father on the concept that college was going to be expensive, but it will all be worth it in the end because I will be getting the best education for myself and I will get the experience that I want.
This whole dilemma with my father led me to believe

Not for me; I was ecstatic about sending my application to colleges so they can look at how great of a student they could have. Doing research about what I wanted to major in and then finding colleges that would give me the best education like Wake Forrest, Columbia, and Furman helped me narrow down my list of eligible colleges. I also applied to schools that I toured that I genuinely liked that had large Biology departments such as the University of Alabama and the University of Georgia. The goal I had in mind was to apply to a large variety of schools so that I could dig deeper into the schools where I was accepted and find the best fit for me. By fit I mean that I wanted a location that I enjoyed, an inviting learning atmosphere, and a college that does what is needed for students so that they can …show more content…
By less desirable I simply mean that for my GPA and academic capabilities, the school wouldn’t be a good fit for me. Also, why would I want to get used to taking easy classes and then transfer to a more desirable school and be at a disadvantage my junior year? Georgia Perimeter College is a college that accepts lower than average GPAs which leads me to believe that if I attended there, I wouldn’t be challenged and I would lose the skills that I have learned in my STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) specific high school. By attending a university that has a higher requirement for GPA and a lower acceptance rate, I feel like it would be more challenging for me and I would be able to use those skills from high school to further my education. So by attending Georgia Perimeter College and taking two years of their courses and then transferring to a more desirable college, I would be placing myself in a position to have a tougher junior year than if I had just gone to the more desirable college to begin with. I also believe that by attending a university for the full 4 years, I would be allowed to get an advisor my freshman year and begin to take the right courses, at the right time, from the start. This is a crucial part of my Pre-Med education because if I don’t take a course when it’s offered then there is the possibility that I’ll be forced to push back taking the MCAT, which is
Going off to college is probably one of the best things a person can do to further their education. The promise of a degree from a university seems achievable but is shadowed with the many challenges that come with a higher edification. Often many college students find themselves bothered by these obstacles which can determine whether the college student succeeds or not. There are many endeavors in college but it depends on how the student reacts to these situations.
...Selecting a college to attend was a lengthy process. I applied to four different schools. I outweighed all the pros and cons of each college. The ultimate goal was to persevere and graduate with a degree. As a high school student, I think I found Ohio State appealing because of all the hype that surrounded it. Once I came to the conclusion that I wanted to go into the medical field, I realized that I needed to be in an atmosphere where I could maintain my focus. Nonetheless, the most consequential influencing factor was regarding finances. Case was extremely expensive but I received a substantial amount of financial help compared to Ohio State. In addition, I was fortunate to obtain a work study job that helped with living expenses. I knew that college would not be easy especially given Case’s reputation. In the end, I am confident I made the correct decision.
Of course, I can only speak from own experience to date. I thoroughly enjoyed high school and had excellent teachers who prepared me for entrance into the new world of college. My family and I discussed and received information from many schools, some of which I was totally unfamiliar with. My parents knew this was an important milestone in my life and therefore, arranged for a trip east to visit campuses and classes. That is how I chose to travel from my North Dakotan home to MIT, halfway across the nation. I had many reasons, one of which is obviously that MIT is one of the top schools in the nation, but another is that it is in the city of Boston. I am from Bismarck, North Dakota, a midwestern town of about 60,000 which I love, but I knew it was time for a new place with new experiences.
College, a gateway for expanding the horizons within our youth has many conflicting ideas due to it's cost, suggesting that it may not even be worth it. Yet thinking about having this privilege of exposing our minds to anything and everything we desire while providing ourselves with far more opportunity in the future makes every late night double shift, staying up until 3 am, living off ramen noodles well worth it.
Only two months ago, I moved into room 426 of Trinity Hall and began my journey at Azusa Pacific University. I still remember how nervous and excited I felt when I arrived. Everyone was incredibly kind and overjoyed to have the freshmen move in. Beneath all the exhilaration, I had three big fears that felt like heavy weight on my chest. Because I did not grow up from a Christian family, I feared that I would not fit in with everyone else. I was also intimidated by how extroverted everyone was. I was introverted, so it required extra effort for me to make new friends. Another one of my fears was nursing school since the nursing program is known for its heavy load of work and commitment. Through experimentation, communication, and hard work,
Money, Money and more Money. Let’s admit, it 's all we think about and it 's also vital to our survival. When we hear the word "college" the first thing that pops into most people’s minds is money and debt. Of course college means money, but it really means money on both sides. You pay people money so you can get more money later. Sounds
Since I grew up in a household with two parents who are college graduates, and even two grandparents who had graduated from college, the idea of attending college was never seen as a unique opportunity, but rather as a necessary part of my future. I’m not going to complain about growing up with parents who valued the pursuit of knowledge, but it certainly never exposed me to the mindset that maybe college is not the best option for everyone after high school. Today, there is a huge debate over if the price of college is really worth it in the end, with the high cost of tuition and the number of people who just aren’t prepared for the demands that college has to offer. And on the other side, some say that college is a necessity not just in one’s
In current times, children are told from a young age that college is imperative to getting a good, stable job. However, this is not always true. Therefore, it cannot be determined if college is always the best choice. Because each person is different and learns in a way unique to themselves, it’s up to each individual to decide whether or not they think they need further education based upon their goals, aspirations, and desires in life. There are many benefits to attending a college or university. For example, college graduates earn about $17,500 more each year than high school graduates. College degrees also give you more options. Not only do you have many career options after obtaining your degree, you also have differing options of how you acquire your degree. Colleges and universities have created many diverse programs, offering traditional classes, online classes, semi-online classes, and night and weekend classes. One of the biggest benefits of attending college is the real world experience you gain from being there and living partially on your own. For most people, college is a time where you can gain experience living with new responsibilities that you don’t have at home, without the pressure of having to pay bills on time
Attending college has helped me see the right benefits that will help me achieve my ultimate dream goals. First of all, I want to be able to learn how to relate to different cultures, ethnicities, and personalities, and also be able to understand different backgrounds, the way people from diverse culture think and act and their lifestyles; In addition, I want to learn how to adapt to new situations including dealing with responsibilities such as using Blackboard and making sure that all my assignments are completed and submitted on time. Furthermore, I will have to learn how to adapt to being an adult and taking care of my own needs.
As the end of my senior year in high school approached, I had to make an important decision. What school was I going to spend the next few years of my life at? When the financial aid packages arrived, I was torn between two colleges. After sitting down with my mother and discussing the advantages and disadvantages of both schools, I came to my final decision. It seemed like a year ago I was imagining what college life would be like and suddenly before my eyes, I would be a college student in a matter of four months.
When your college student you are starting a new journey. You have moved to a new area and are no longer living with your mother and your father. According to Girard, this is where you need to “stop worrying” and focus on what “you can do to better yourself.” Every student wants to graduate and work their dream job and live in their dream house, but like Girard said you have to work at it.
College is going to start my own life on a foot that is ready to leap because my career is going to take off right out of the gate. All-in-all I’m going to college for three main reasons. My immediate family is a reason because I want them to be proud of me for doing something right for once. My future family is also one because it’s a big part of my life that I want to be happy and always feel comfortable. Finally for my personal financial well-being, so I can be able to treat myself to all the luxuries I want for myself. Going back to line one, all of these things are a part of my future. Isn’t that what college is for after all, to prepare people for their own futures and what they bring? A university is not my future, it’s only the beginning of it.
must stick with it. A cabinet could be opened at home and a variety of tasty
A typical junior or senior in high school is faced with a dizzying array of choices in choosing a college. Questions such as "How much is tuition." "Is there housing on campus," and "What standardized tests do they accept." are all valid and relevant. Fortunately, asking these types of questions often narrows a broad swath of potential colleges down to a small few. With that in mind, I chose a university that seemed to suit my needs, and I applied. Since I was accepted, I did't need to apply anywhere else. I was all set for the "college experience", life at the big U. Or so I thought.
...e about what colleges or universities that you and I have taken because it also depends on your personality, family circumstances, and literacy. A chance never comes twice; a successful person, who is the right time to capture, makes wise decisions, and plus a little luck. Our lives will not totally change because of a good university or a great community college. Only we can change our lives' status; only we can choose what we want to do; only we can hold our lives on our hands. Studying in a famous or fancy university helps you have a good beginning of your career, but this is not the most important thing in your lives. You might choose the way where you feel comfortable to achieve your target. Don't let the education limit you, you should utilize it to help you climbing to the peak of your career. After all, I always remember that failure is a lesson for success.
