Essay #1 The definition of the word situation is location or position in reference to the environment. At the start of my junior year, I anticipated an ideal situation. My life was progressing towards all time highs in all aspects of my life; for example, relationships, sports, and family. However, come the beginning of the winter I found myself in what seemed then as a less than ideal situation. My environment was the basketball team but my location in reference to the basketball team, was at the end of the bench. This situation has since had an enormous positive impact in my life. Overconfident and airheaded, I was living through the best times in my life in the fall of 2016(BE 1). Perhaps that is why sitting on the bench during basketball …show more content…
Despite not being a part of the rotation, I worked hard to be the best teammate I could be by supporting my teammates and trying to push them in practice. Headed into the postseason my team was enjoying exciting times. Our districts and substate matchups were ideal, and would allow us to hopefully get our revenge against Osage for the substate loss they handed us the year before. We breezed through the district round of the playoffs and found ourselves facing Osage for the second year in a row in substate. Our team began rolling, looking like the clear favorite of our substate to head to state. Through all the success my team and I was having I still felt as if I wasn’t doing enough. I knew I was a part of the team, but I didn’t feel like a contributor. I felt as if since I didn’t make an impact during the games, I didn’t make one at all. Triumphantly our team made its way to state (BE 3). James and Nick, Ryan and Connor, Johnny and Hutch all celebrated with me after substate like I was a big part of the team (SC 6).Those were my brothers on the team, but for some reason, I still felt as if I didn’t give them enough contribution. The following week was a whirlwind of activity. I practiced, studied, watched film ( SC 4). The team was given a variety of team meals and amenities prior to state. The hype before the state tournament was building immensely. I dreamed of championships and pep rallies in honor of our
Support: I had joined a team where their were more practices and games during the session with more intest players in each team. As the session came to an end we had won an amount of games to compete in the playoffs.
Once again, the next year, I was on the All-Star team. This time we were all determined to stay in the tournament and win the championship. We started off lousy, though, making four errors in the first game and losing 4-0. We now had to win every game and beat the last team twice. We did defeat every team we went up against, including the team that beat us the first game, and once again ended up in the championship game.
My sophomore year eager to begin baseball season, I've have so much detonation and disappointment from the prior year. The team and i had been preparing our butts off this off season. We were determined to break the curse of the baseball team. Out of the past teams no one never made it passed the fourth round and we were willing to do anything to change that. This was the year that we told our self's that were we going to make it the distance and nothing was going stand before us. We needed to be the team to recall as the ones who broke the condemnation and made it to state.
To my surprise we defeated the team. Winning the first game of the season sparked a burning passion in the team to win and become the best. Our desire and lust to be the underdogs was fueled by our atrocious previous season. Game after game, we defeated our opponents, and game after game we became stronger and stronger. We began to believe in ourselves and instead of dreading the games, we could think of nothing else. I realized that I was wrong about my initial thoughts about our new coach, and that I should not have judged him without giving him a chance. Soon, our confidence grew to the point where we wanted to win the championship. Off the field, we had our doubts. We convinced ourselves that we would not be able to qualify for the championship, based on our statistics from last season. On the field, however, our play style could not be defended against, and our skill was unmatched. Every game we gave it all we had because we had nothing to lose. We knew going into the games that it couldn’t be worse than the previous season. As a result, we began to play for fun, and by doing so we got into our rhythm. Soon enough, we qualified for the championship, and we were going to the semi-finals. Our opponents were no match for us, and we won the game. Next was the finals. It was all surreal at the time. We were the worst team, or thought to be at least. We had done horribly the previous season, and not a single one of us could have even dreamed of this happening, but it did. We went into the finals knowing that no matter what happens, we had a wonderful season and we all had fun. We knew that even if we lost, we would be happy because we had fun and it was a great run. Despite the odds, we won the finals. We were the champions. I remember the game ending and joy rushing through my body. We, the underdogs, had won the
To this day, this game haunts me and sometimes I find it hard to sleep at night because I am too busy thinking of what should have been. Looking back, the way to describe the ending to my senior season is disappointment; not only in myself, but in my entire team. Being the only senior it felt like more of betrayal than anything. It felt like my teammates knew they had more than a second chance to redeem themselves so they were not as heartbroken and sympathetic towards the loss and towards
Basketball is a great sport for people that like to run because basketball involves running up and down the court.. Some people like basketball because they like the idea of the sport or the competition. Most people have something specific that they like about basketball. For instance: Some people like free throws better than threes. Everyone has a different opinion about the game or perspective of the game that they like or dislike about it.
The team was ready, we had been working extremely hard for the past seven months for this. We were all in great shape and very rested. A few of the returning players were meeting me at my house to carpool to the final game of the state championship tournament. Everyone knew that the hard work had paid off when we won the semi-final game the preceding day.
Of course we did not win every game that season, but we definitely played our best as a team. When I stepped up to lead the team, the leadership became contagious. Others saw how great it was to be
I soon discovered that the girls on the “A” team were a close-knit group and were not exactly thrilled that a player from the “B” team was now playing with them. I had already learned that hard work leads to success, so I made it my business to win their respect. I went from riding the bench to becoming a starter. One of my coaches had a saying that still sticks with me. “Success breeds success” he used to tell us. He was right! My game became like a snowball rolling down a hill. The girls who had ignored me soon became my teammates in the truest
We have two gyms that we practice in. The “New Gym” has a distinctive smell. I think it smells like sweat and hard work. We always have worse practices in the new gym. I like practicing in our main gym. The good part about the new gym is that there are no stairs in the new gym. In the main gym, we must run stair laps, they are awful. Instead of running stairs in the new gym we must run down and backs.
“Something the Lord Made” offers a wonderful characterization. Dr. Blalock tries to do as much for Vivien as he can, including raising Vivian’s salary and insisting that Thomas assist him with the first Blue Baby surgery in defiance of custom and Jim Crow. He shows his unalloyed respect to Vivian, praising the results of Thomas' surgical skill as being "like something the Lord made". However, he never expresses his gratitude to Vivian in public nor offers financial support to Vivian. Most of the time, especially after the he managed to implement the very first heart surgery procedure in saving the "blue babies", he simply succumbed to passive racism for its political benefits. As Dr. Blalock says when Vivian comes back to work, “I’m still
My unforgettable senior football season was coming to a close. The whole team knew that this was the last game of football we would ever play together. After this game, it would never be the same. I had been waiting my whole life to experience what I was about to face in the next few hours.
Two years ago, my basketball team and I made the 123 mile trip from hometown, Norfolk to Nebraska’s state capital to compete in the annual Class A State Basketball Championships. We had an astonishing 25-0 record heading into the tournament. Our 25-0 record was the best in the state and something that had never been done before in our school’s history. We went into our first round matchup thinking we were just going to show up and walk our way into the state final. Boy were we wrong. We got down early and were never able to recover. When the final buzzer sounded and we were on the losing end, my team and I were in shock. What had just happened? We were suppose to win the whole tournament, but now our season had come to a screeching halt. That one loss taught me more than all 25 of the previous wins combined.
Basketball is a fun sport that has changed a lot in how the game is played and the popularity of the game since the 1800s. This sport is one of the most well known sports in history. But what is basketball really about.
Can you imagine playing the game of basketball without a three point line? Basketball has constantly changed throughout history and continues to change today. The National Basketball Association has risen in popularity and is now one of America’s more popular sports. Because basketball continues to be a popular sport, a fan should learn about the origin of the NBA, how the game evolved from the late 1940s to the early 2000s, and how the players today impact the way it is played.
