• Explain how you set personal educational goals and monitor your own progress.
As I mentioned, I have a PhD degree in Biochemistry and I’m in my career transition from a research scientist to a data scientist. I have completed some online courses and I have already started my career in the Information Technology as a data analyst. My current educational goal is to pursue my degree in computer science and then I will apply for a graduate program in my current University that I work for, where my tuition as their employee is waived. Thus, I have the chance to receive my graduate degree in computer science for free. I will complete my study in the UoPeople within 5 years and then continue my graduate study in my current University.

I have completed some online courses in computer science and I currently have a full-time job as a data analyst, which indicates my success in both career transition and self-driven learning. My purpose is to change my life and make it better. Therefore, the eager for a better life is a lot of better reward and praise than grades or external praise.
• Do you push yourself to think deeper about issues and draw connections to your personal, academic, and professional lives?
I am never stopping thinking critically in every aspect of my life with an insightful observation. With 20 years of experience as a research scientist, thinking deeper is becoming my habit and part of my life. I do not need to push me to think deeper. Eventually, I just can’t stop thinking deeper. This is a basic requirement for a research scientist.

It helps both peers and reviewers to better understand and revisit the assignment and knowledge. After I review peers’ assignments or I interact with peers in the discussion forum, I quickly comprehend the topic that I may be not quite understand in the first place. I really like the way of learning with diverse methods, including collaborative learning, group work and individual work.
• What is your understanding of the scope of the University, its departments, and its learning philosophy and approach?
Based on my understanding, the scope of the University is to provide education, research and service to students and make their lives better and brightener. The departments provide specific professional and academic education and service to students and help students to become experts with expertise in their specific areas. The learning philosophy and approach should include diverse learning methods to help the students to better understand and acquire new knowledge and skills, including team work, peer review, independent project, forum discussion, and experimental project.

The path I have taken toward obtaining my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business, Management, and Economics, with a concentration in Marketing, has been different than I expected when I first started college. I started at Brooklyn College at 17-years-old and frankly, I wasn’t ready for it. I struggled to balance an awkward schedule of classes and inconsistent study habits. I never felt completely comfortable there and after two years of performing poorly, I enrolled at Kingsborough Community College. I viewed it as a new start and seized the opportunity. I decided to major in Business Administration; I made the Dean’s List, and saw my grades improve dramatically. After completing 74 total credits, I decided I was ready to return to a four-year-college. I initially considered returning to Brooklyn College but at this time my grandmother had become ill. I applied to the College of Staten Island which was near her home and would make it possible for me to help her out with whatever she needed and attend school locally. This worked out great for my first semester. I carried a 3.47 GPA and decided to major in Business, with a concentration in Marketing. At this time, I was working part-time while in school. But due to certain circumstances, I was forced to obtain a full-time job in addition to other part-time commitment. This made it very difficult for me to enroll in classes as most of the upper-level marketing classes that I needed for graduation were only offered during the day when I would now be working. I enrolled in night and weekend classes for the next two semesters but my grades began to suffer. In the last semester I tried to register at the College of Staten Island, I couldn’t fit the courses I needed into my ever-growing w...
After doing my research on how NU and other institutions figure my discipline, I’ve concluded that all these universities are putting forward a curriculum that is catered to my interests on the surface level. However, the point of getting an education in this day and age is to prepare us for the work force, to be “successful” and to uphold the names of the institutions in which we came from.
College terrifies the best of us with pricing of the college, atmosphere of it, and the total fear of not succeeding. In my mind, I have this dream that in college I will be the best I can be, achieve every goal I set, and go above and beyond of what I set myself to. I have always had that ambition when it came to my education. I knew I had support from family, friends, and teachers. There was just one big difference, at the end of the day I was in charge of my future. The only way I see myself achieving all this is to set my mind and get the degree I want, be confident in who I am, and grow from everything I learn.
“Never underestimate your own strength. You were born for a purpose and are blessed with the power to achieve it” (Leon Brown). I have this quote printed out and on the wall next to my door so I can see it every day as a reminder to myself. I believe that we all have a purpose on this earth and that everything we go through on the journey there has a reason whether to teach a lesson or set an example. We have places where we want to end up and goals we want to achieve. We set these goals and dreams to help us fulfill the purpose we see for ourselves. I believe my purpose is to help people in their times of need. To fulfill my purpose, I will need to use my personal, academic and career goals to create a pathway to get to where I want to be
The university is a convenience store located along the highway of life. It's not a place the customer-student necessarily wants to stop at, but looking at the gas gauge of opportunity, the customer has decided to stop and fill up on knowledge in order to continue on the journey. Everything the university offers can be compared with an item offered at the convenience store.
During high school my teachers lectured my classmates and I on goal making. I specifically remember my health teacher using the SMART method; this says goals must be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound. Even though I had a great resource to make smart goals for myself, I never took the time to construct a game plan. Entering the vast new world of college, I want to improve myself by keeping several goals in mind each month, week, and day. My process starts by creating intellectual, psycho-emotional, physical, and social goals to work towards in my four years of college.
Universities are where we locate our future's pioneers and issue solvers. They give a commercial center to thoughts, where understudies are instructed to think basically and be available to new translations. Bill Nye, one of the best masterminds and teachers of our time once stated, "Everybody you will ever meet knows something you don't. " Universities endeavor to grow balanced people by grasping comprehensiveness; recognizing that all understudies are remarkable with various foundations and encounters, and to best comprehend the world we live in, we should think basically by being available to new thoughts and articulations.

This will give us the ownership of our
Every day, a person’s focus should remain on their goals. Goals are meant to challenge us without over-stressing ourselves, whilst also bringing us one step closer to our next objective. The long-term goals one sets for themselves should strictly be about what they want from their future. Medium-term and short-term goals should provide less challenging steps to turning the life goal into a reality. In order to set those goals, you must take the time to sit and think about what it is that you really want.
The primary mission of colleges and universities should be preparing students for the workforce. One of the most fundamental factors that contributed to human civilization and progress was the foundation of educational institutions like colleges and universities. Since centuries they have trained scientists, philosophers, artists, lawyers and businessmen alike by harnessing their talents and helping them shape the course of human history. However, the nature of the work and the way things are done in the workplace have drastically changed and are constantly changing. Today, we too often see university graduates with commendable academic knowledge but not the practical skills needed to survive in the increasingly competitive job market leading
As my remaining time in high school diminishes, I can picture my future college life in front of me with increasing clarity. I imagine that as I enter college as a freshman, I will transition more easily and feel better prepared to take on my classes because of the baseline that UA Early College will provide me with. Along with this, I am looking forward to completing college-level classes online before graduating from high school because it will give me the ability to comfortably study abroad during college while feeling that my coursework is under control. For these reasons, I feel that UA Early College will help me to work towards achieving my college goals.
