Fundamental Assumptions Carl Rogers established person-Centered Therapy in the 1940s. This therapy provides nondirective, empathetic approach, which inspires the client to become driven for change. This theory indicates that every human being works hard in life in order to reach his or her full potential. Person centered therapy views individuals with the ability for change, instead of viewing them as faulty. Rogers believed that everyone has the resources needed to overcome obstacles they just need to be placed in the appropriate environment as well as the appropriate facilitator. The primary focus in this therapy is to bring about self-awareness, liberty, and self-direction within the client themselves. This is a holistic theory that believes that individuals are highly swayed by environmental factors as well as the idea that all humans work hard in life to attain growth and stability. Gestalt therapy is very beneficial, due to the fact that change is not forced upon the clients; on the contrary they are monitored while they make their own acceptance of change. The purpose of this intervention to guide individuals on strengthening their self-awareness towards their feelings and act in the current moment. The key resemblance between person centered and gestalt therapy are that both are experimental methods to therapy, signifying that the counseling procedure objectives are established in the involvement of the client and the therapist knowledge. The belief is that if clients are forced for change they will create the though processed of feeling guilt when behave accordance to wants as opposed to should. Counselor have identified that individuals will spend a lot of time ambivalent between should and wants. The solution to this problematic thought process requires individuals to recognize their own morals. This is an example of the direction of therapy when using the gestalt therapy. The concept to this theory is that self-awareness like possessing, choice, and accountability bring about ordinary transformation.
