Recommended: Theoretical framework for ADHD research

Percy has been diagnosed with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). The main traits of ADHD are inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. The ADHD child often has trouble keeping his mind on one thing and organizing a task. He or she feels restless and fidgety. He or she may blurt out comments without thinking. This profile fits percy. He seems like an ADHD child because, he blurts out smart remarks , he doesn’t pay attention in class,and he is hyperactive .I think percy is an ADHD child.
First and foremost, Percy blurts out smart remarks.According to the lightning thief book by Rick Riordan he resists the urge to respond “yes, you are” when Crusty is introducing himself. He also makes Ares one of his enemies by being smart. When Ares told him to fetch his shield he replied ”Why don’t you go back and get it yourself?” Clearly percy has an attitude and says rude remarks. According to ADDitude by the ADDitude editors “Blurts out the answers before the questions have been completed.” In Percy’s case he comes up with smart remarks and comebacks. His ADHD is a little different than what ADDitude portrays it. Percy blurts out comments which is a sign of ADHD. …show more content…

Percy’s report card is very bad with frequent C’s and D’s. He doesn’t study because he is bored that is one of the symptoms of ADHD. According to ADDitude “Fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, work, or other activities.” This is why Percy in inattentive in class. Percy seems to only have one real friend, Grover who is scrawny and “on top of all that, he is crippled”. He does not associate with other kids as he feels he does not belong with them. The reason he is in trouble at home and school could be that others don’t recognize and realize him as well as he does not understand his place. This is what the reader would classify as Percy’s ordinary world. From this point on, the story will further develop into the next stage call to adventure as the ordinary world seems to be a place the he despises.
