“Well dear I must be on my way,”said Mrs. Chipley. “Your aunt should be here within the hour.” Mrs. Chipley, walking to the door turned facing Sally and said, “Open up, don't be afraid to ask questions i'm sure she is expecting them.” ,she said with a smile. After Mrs.Chipley left the house became quiet with the only exception of the rain beating on the windows with a steady rhythm. Sally began to think what questions to ask. “Whens your birthday?, What's your favorite color? How much do you weigh?’’ These and many more questions went through her mind. Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Knock! Knock! Knock! There stood a woman with brown hair with blonde highlights and she looked about 5’6 with a sundress as blue as the sky and a vibrant …show more content…
As i tried to run out i heard the creak of th the floorboard as if it was hollow. I carefully stooped down and picked up the floorboards to reveal a cellar floor door. I started to recite prayers for protection “Grant, O Lord, Thy protection And in protection, strength And in strength, understanding And in understanding, knowledge And in knowledge, the knowledge of justice And in the knowledge of justice, the love of it And in the love of it, the love of all existences And in that love, the love of spirit and all creation.” To my unpleasant surprise i saw a lady who look exactly like Aunt Sarah. She was tied up with duct tape on her mouth and rope that wrap around her arms and legs with what seemed to be pieces of hair from Aunt Sarah and dried blood under her fingernails. I tried to get down the ladder as fast as i could as i got to the bottom i heard the front door open then shut and Aunt Sarah's booming voice “Sally! I brought ice cream cookies and cream your favorite.” I took then tape off of the women mouth and she began to cry and repeat “She is coming please help she is coming!” Aunt Sarah heard the noise coming from her room and started walking toward her
What clues in the story let you know that Camilla Cream was feeling sick? Objective 2: As the students engage in thinking, pair, and share activities they will refer to the text to complete the assignment. They will learn from each other, receive feedback, and will also have a chance to engage in public speaking while discussing the story. This instructional strategy will encourage the students to reflect on the questions, share their ideas with their partner, fill out a worksheet with 5 questions, and then share their ideas with the rest of the class.
Susie’s mother opened the door to let Molly, Susie’s babysitter, inside. Ten-month old Susie seemed happy to see Molly. Susie then observed her mother put her jacket on and Susie’s face turned from smiling to sad as she realized that her mother was going out. Molly had sat for Susie many times in the past month, and Susie had never reacted like this before. When Susie’s mother returned home, the sitter told her that Susie had cried until she knew that her mother had left and then they had a nice time playing with toys until she heard her mother’s key in the door. Then Susie began crying once again.
Then she saw a greasy china plate that had bread crumbs, cheese and sausage. The pungent of cheese made her stomach grumble. The man was very rude and insulted her because she couldn’t read. Then Frances headed home and on her way, she bumped into a girl with a nice, green, winter coat. She imagined her Ma in that coat, twirling around with a smile on her face. The girl’s mother said a rather offensive sentence about Frances and walked away with her daughter.
The speaker of the poem is six years old in the waiting room of a dentist office, waiting for her aunt’s appointment to finish. Prompted by both the cover of a National Geographic magazine and a scream from her aunt, the speaker begins to question how she got there, who she is, and how she is different from her aunt and the women who came before her.
Mr. Shiftlet continued driving down the road, on his way to see his mother in Mobile, Alabama. The rain was pouring and all he could hear was the pelting on his windshield. His mind was heavy, the questions kept swirling in his head, “Why am I going to Mobile?”, “What has my mother ever done for me in the last few years?” , “Why don’t I just let her die of polio like she let my father do?” “I can’t go see her!
Arriving at Lacey’s house I walk to the backdoor letting myself into the house. Lacey was putting on tanning lotion in the kitchen, “Lacey,” I called to her, “my mom wants me to pick up snacks for the beach, do you want to go into town with me?”, “Sure,” she replied, “do you mind if my cousin comes with us?”, “Of course I don’t mind,“ I answered, “but we have to get moving, my dad only left me the car to use ‘til noon.”
On a cold night in December, Linda, a cutthroat investment banker, was walking home late at night from her luxurious office in Houston, Texas. The night was Christmas Eve, but Linda had to work late to finish up a big deal she was closing. It was lightly snowing outside, and as Linda liked snow, she decided walking the short distance to her apartment rather than driving would be relaxing. Her husband and two children were eagerly awaiting her arrival to spend Christmas Eve together as a family. As Linda was walking, she began to have the strange feeling that someone was following her. As she looked behind her, there was one man walking a few hundred feet back on the otherwise empty sidewalk. This frightened Linda a little, and she quickened her pace slightly. The man followed suit, increasing the speed at which he was following the nervous woman. Linda wasn’t quite sure what to do; this had never happened to her before. She turned around a second time, and felt a wave of horror pass over her as she saw the mans face, dark and fierce. She also saw something in his gloved right hand, long, silver, and shining dully in the dim streetlights. Linda knew that the object was indeed a knife, and now realized that she was in serious trouble. As she rounded a street corner, she began to sprint. The mysterious man rounded the corner, looking down, and saw a pair of high heels laying in the middle of the sidewalk. As he looked up, he saw Linda running as fast as she could, her bare feet kicking up snow. The man took off after her, furious that he had let her gain so much distance between them. Linda tried to open her purse in order to use
A young mother was standing in the kitchen making breakfast one spring morning. Her little garden was in full bloom with fresh flowers and the smell of honey suckles filled the air. It seemed as thought winter had finally passed and spring was here. As she looked out the window into the backyard, she noticed that the garden gate had been left open. Her little three-year-old daughter, Lindsay, had toddled through the gate and was sitting there on the railroad tracks playing with the gravel as if it was a perfectly safe and sensible place to play. The mother's heart stopped and panic took over her body when she saw a train coming around the bend and heard its whistle. As she raced from the house screaming her daughter's name at the top of her lungs praying that she would get there in time or that Lindsay would hear her, she suddenly saw a striking figure, clothed in pure white, lifting Lindsay off the tracks and into safety. While the train passed, this being stood by the tracks with an arm around the mother's precious little girl. Together they watched the train go by. When the mother reached her daughter's side, Lindsay was standing alone (Smith).
I can see a crack of light coming from under the bathroom door. I keep hearing a strange sound, almost like a hurt puppy. As I walk closer, I see a dark puddle on the floor. Suddenly, I am very afraid. I slowly open the door. “Mommy, Mommy, are you ok?” My mother looked at me and cried, “Dial 911, Darling! Hurry, Honey, Hurry!” There is so much blood—on the floor, on her clothes, and on her hands. I can hear the sirens now. Mommy goes for a ride in the ambulance. My three day old baby brother and I have to stay with the neighbor until Daddy comes and picks us up. What happened to my mother?
One afternoon as Angel walked home from school she was confused as to why there were two police cars and an ambulance racing passed her in such hurry. Angel had a bad feeling that something was not right. As she got closer to her house she saw a huge cloud of smoke surrounding the house in which she and her uncle lived. Angel was speechless and abashed to the point that she felt she would faint. Waiting for no time at all, Angel ran as fast as she could close enough to where she could see her uncle being carried into the ambulance. Uncle Joe was in critical condition where all there was to do was pray and wait. At the waiting room was Ang...
In the city of mexico where it had not snowed in forever, there lived a 6 year old little girl named Anna she was catholic she was an innocent little girl but, not like any other little girl she was different. On a Friday night after a long day at school she came home and was so tired she fell asleep praying to the virgin mary. Whenever she was feeling down she always prayed to the virgin mary which is jesus’s mother she was like a goddess to her. She strongly cared about her beliefs especially when it came to the virgin mary. The virgin mary is caring, kind and emotional just like any other human being. But she had this thing when she would cry it would either be rain, snow, etc.. it was powerful The virgin mary was as powerful as jesus. The virgin mary had all these little baby children with her she was sending them up to the sky fast I don’t know why. I was confused of what to do. She was whispering saying things that I couldn’t really understand all of a sudden their was a thunderstorm. I was scared she started dropping tears but, then wiped them off and stood her head tall. All of a sudden, Satan was trying to get those innocent children he was trying to take them from her but, she
As we took our seats, we pulled down the lap bar and anxiously for the ride to start. The ride worker came around the ride to us and pulled up on our lap bar to make sure we would be safe, and then said he said a little creepily “Have a great ride!” We started laughing and then the ride started. We had our hands up and we were having a great time. As the ride was getting faster, Angie and I heard this strange noise coming from our cart and we started getting scared. As it got faster, the noise was getting louder and louder. I started to think what could happen to us and then I got scared. I started screaming really loud with a look of terror on my face. Angie started screaming and she looked scared, too. We both started laughing at each other's appearance. We were both scared and we were laughing so hard that tears were flowing from our faces.
I rose on a Saturday morning pondering what I would do today. I got out of bed, then put on gloves to wipe off the dust that had settled on my bedside table. It always puzzled me how so much dust could gather in only a one night period. I got dressed in my favorite garment and bow tie. My mom thought that it was an odd combination, but I thought it was quite nice—Bow ties are cool. I put on one of my many fedoras, then opened the door that led straight into our kitchen. “Would you like some breakfast, Dear?” My mother asked. “No, thank you,” I said politely. “Did you know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day?” She said. “You can’t miss it.” “Yes, mom, everyone knows that. I’m not hungry.” I said as I walked out of the kitchen. “I’m going to the library,” I
I slowly opened the front door -- the same old creak echoed its way throughout the old house, announcing my arrival just seconds before I called out, "Grandma!" She appeared around the corner with the normal spring in her steps. Her small but round 5'1" frame scurried up to greet me with a big hug and an exclamation of, "Oh, how good to see you." It was her eighty-fifth birthday today, an amazing feat to me, just part of everyday life to her. The familiar mix of Estee Lauder and old lotion wafted in my direction as she pulled away to "admire how much I've grown." I stopped growing eight years ago, but really, it wasn't worth pointing this fact out. The house, too, smelled the same as it's ever smelled, I imagine, even when my father and his brothers grew up here more than forty years ago -- musty smoke and apple pie blended with the aroma of chocolate chip cookies. The former was my grandfather's contribution, whose habit took him away from us nearly five years ago; the latter, of course, comes from the delectable delights from my grandmother's kitchen. Everything was just as it should be.
Panic swept over me like a deep winter chill as a nudge from behind forced me to take a step forward. I watched as the curtain swung to the side allowing Hell to spit out a young girl. I watched her walk to a nearby pew and kneel obediently and begin saying her penance. Searching her face intently, I saw no signs of fowl play. Instead of comforting me however, this seemed to only add to my anxiety. With deep...
