The parable “Peacock in the Land of Penguins” is written by BJ. Gallagher Hateley. This short story has become very popular for various organizations and business. The authors goal in writing this parable is to break down his point in a simple and understandable way so that his entire audience can comprehend his message. His message that people must appreciate the skills and ideas of others in the workplace so that they can come together to make a solution for the greater good. Upon reading the short story it reminds you of a children’s book with a simple life lesson at the end, but the more the parable is broken down, there are several relations to business hidden beneath. Upon joining the land of penguins Perry wants to bring in new ideas to the society that he thinks would make the land of penguins better. At first the penguins are very thrilled and open minded to Perry’s creativity and thought that he had wonderful ideas. But they soon became uneasy because they were so used to the norm that they had created before. This also relates to the businesses of today’s time. Many businesses and organizations beg for new ideas and more creativity from newcomers but when it comes down to it they are very cautious to disrupt the culture that they have created. Like the penguins, top executives and managers of today’s time are afraid to step out of their comfort zone and go through with new views. It happens so often just like in the parable, the people in an organization love and welcome ideas that are presented to them but are quick to criticize the things that could potentially make their business
