In Partisan Journalism, A History of Media Bias in the United States, Jim A. Kuypers steers his audience on a journey from beginning to the end of American journalistic history, putting emphasis on the militaristic ideas of objectivity and partisanship. Kuypers confirm how the American journalistic tradition cultivated as a partisan root and, with only a short time for the objectivity in between, and then go back to those roots in which are today.
Beginning this journey Kuypers starts off telling us about the summary of newspapers throughout the Colonial times, explaining that the papers around that time were honestly maneuvered in a particularly “partisan way”; he continues onto the discussion of Jacksonian era’s extension of the press and its partisan nature. I found this part of the book to be more educating to me, individually, than the other chapters and educating paragraphs. After explaining while being specific and stern, he emphasizes fine points that the role of the press taken place in the midst of the War between the States, he explains that it was the telegraph. The conflict between partisanship and professionalization/objectivity continued through the years of muckracking and throughout the World War II, newspapers during this time period were quiet often objective when they report while their reported lean to the right .

In his editorial "Words Triumph Over Images," Curtis Wilkie blames today’s media for being “reckless” and “a mutant reality show”. He believes that television and radio are “unfiltered”, which causes the quality of journalism for newspapers to be unmatched. Yet, it is unfair to label all media that is not print as lesser because the quality of any media relies on the viewers and the individual journalists, and in drastic situations like a hurricane, reporters may have many road blocks. Any of these aspects can affect the quality of journalism, which invalidates Curtis Wilkie’s claim.

Lineberry, the main idea is how the media determines what to air, where to get said stories that will air, how the media presents the news, and the medias effect on the general public. “Reporting The News” is a very strong and detailed article. The authors’ purpose is to inform the readers of what goes on in the news media. This can be inferred by the authors’ tone. The authors’ overall tone is critical of the topics that are covered. The tone can be determined by the authors’ strong use of transitions, specific examples, and phrases or words that indicate analysis. Bill Moyer’s PBS series, Buying The War, focuses on journalist’s impact and failure to go up against the Bush administration regarding the sought war in Iraq post 9/11. This documentary portrays how powerful the media was towards the nation, and how useless it was when challenging Bush and his team about whether America should go to war or not with Iraq. We can see how Bush and his administration persuaded the media enough, and to some extent controlled them, in order for them to communicate the message that going to war was the best choice. In the midst of World War II Ernie Pyle stood out from the crowd of journalists with a style that hadn’t been seen before but spoke to American readers all over both on the home front and abroad. One writer and historian, Jordan Braverman, puts it into perspective however the lack of truth of some reporting by saying, “Soldiers were known to have huddled in foxholes under heavy aerial bombardment, while their radios were telling them that U.S. forces had complete control of the skies in their battle sector” (Braverman 84). Today it seems almost impossible to get a straightforward answer on any major topic from the media. All sources of media have a specific audience that they are intending to hear or view the information that they have prepared, therefore they will cut bits and pieces out so that only the message they are trying to get across will be received. My opinion is that the present changes in newspaper policies and technologies will engender a future where the industry will be regulated by new and more independent regulatory bodies, and enforced by governmental policies which take into account the full digitisation of newspapers. Finally, if the press is to recover from its demise, it will be necessary for journalists to adopt more creative, narrative-driven styles of non-fiction writing. In these ways, over the past twenty years, the Australian print media has degenerated, so in an attempt to save the industry, in the future newspapers will be regulated by new authorities, completely digitised, and written in more creative styles.

Journalism is a discipline of collecting, analyzing, verifying, and presenting news regarding current events, trends, issues and people. The certain individuals who practice journalism are called journalists. Journalism's main goal in reporting events is to state who, what, when, where, why, and how, and to explain the significance of all. There are two main types of journalism which are print journalism and also broadcast journalism. Print journalism can include newspapers, news magazines, newsletters, general interest magazines, and online news pages. Next is broadcast journalism which actually merges off into two categories which are radio and television. Radio gathers the facts and the journalist are forced to convey the story with the help of interesting noises and background sounds. Television mainly relies on visual information to display and basically help tell the story. Through the use of the television it proves to help characterize the story with the use of on-camera interviews, interviews with people involved in the story, and pictures or video from where the story took place.
