3.1-Introduction

Parole officers are state employees who are responsible for monitoring recently released criminal offenders. The Parole Officer duty is to keep check on recent released criminal offenders and make sure they maintain the standards of release implemented by the parole board.

3.2-Typical Career Path

Being a Parole Officer is a job you could sit on and have the same job throughout your career, your pay will gradually increase on pace with time on the job, for me my end game would be running for Sheriff.

3.3-Trends

Experience is one of the top things that have affected this field, since a lot of it is based on personal confrontation, knowing what to look for has changed the game a lot. Cell Phones are another asset that

has made the job a little easier to manage, unfortunately for parolees, with the invention of cell phones people don’t have an excuse not to call in or answer checks.

3.4 Salary Information

Parole Officer salary is $54,876, as of January 30, 2018, with a range usually between $48,744-$61,014, however this can vary widely depending on experience, education and time at the job.

3.5-Skills Used

Being a Parole Officer requires many personal characteristics, since ultimately, you’re the one representing parolees in front of the parole board it is your job to accurately assess them, good or bad. It’s a job where you should always be able to separate the law from personal feelings and always do what’s right.

4.1-Employing Organizations

Probation and Parole officers are at the city, county, state and federal level, wherever there is a court of competent jurisdiction, there will be Probation and Parole Officers.
4.2-Multicultural Aspects

Although there is a pretty large gender gap between male and female (85% male, 15% female) the gender gap is closing, these numbers were based off local police officers.

4.3-Becoming Employed

Assuming you’re willing to move the possibilities for employment are good, after achieving the minimum requirements you should start applying and submitting a detailed and perfect resume on the state and local level.

4.4-Typical Job Notices

Any vacant Parole Officer duty available in South Florida would be good for me, I’d be willing to even do local law enforcement if that’s what it took to get a shoe in Colier or Monroe County Florida.
4.5-Work Conditions

You don’t have a lot of supervision as Parole officer which is why the process for becoming one is somewhat tedious, you do have a lot of stress as the fate of individuals falls in your hands.

Most state and federal parole agencies require that parole officer applicants hold a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, psychology, social work, or corrections.

A Bachelor’s degree is all that is needed in my state.

5.2-Affiliations

You see a lot of Sheriffs with Criminal Justice backgrounds, not all are specific to Parole Officer but Sheriff is my long term goal.
5.3-Outlook

Well because prisons are overcrowded it’s drawn a lot more relevance on Probation and Parole opportunities, with this has draw a need to Parole and Probation Officers with most doubling duties as both.
5.4-Lifestyle Impact

The reason I chose this field of work is because for the most part it’s a 9-5. There are a lot more jobs out there that have far worse hours, the negative impact on family should be minimal.

5.5-Conclusion

Do to the many reasons listed above I have high hopes for this field, after the military I was dead set on using the skills I learned throughout my time in the Army, back home in the civilian sector. My one thing I tried to keep in mind was my family, as a Probation Officer the time requirements should be drastically less than that of the military and that played a huge role
