Parent motivational beliefs is the key aspect of parental role construction which is the belief of the parent for which his/her role is in the development of his/her child. During the parent motivational concept parents are able to be influenced by their peers in a social setting, this is the chance for an educational institution to implement a social group such as a parent teacher organization or association (PTO/PTA). Feeding off of this positive peer association over a period of time has been found to motivate parent involvement practices (Drummond & Stipek, 2004).
Invitations to involvement is just what it sounds like the simple inviting of a parent to participate. This form of participation must be extended from someone within the school building who the parent deems as important. ((Hoover-Dempsey & Sandler, 1997). These invitations are viewed as welcome letters to participate in the learning community of their student. Parents may receive these letters from any part of the school community: principal, teacher, lead of the hospitality committee, and their own student. Each invitation carries a different reception based on the parent’s own experiences, the school building should extend the primary invitation in order to establish the open school atmosphere. When a principal opens the building for parents to access freely a sense of community is exuberated.

In Unequal Childhoods: Class, Race, and Family Life, Annette Lareau discusses the extensive amount of research she conducted employing observational and interview techniques. She collected data on the middle class, working class, and poor families. She was trying to understand the impact of a child’s early parental guidance on the child’s life. She was able to conduct this research with 12 families, all of whom had fourth graders. She gathered enough information to conclude the major differences in the parenting styles of each type of family, which was directly correlated to socioeconomic status.

The book Unequal Childhoods: Class, Race, and Family Life published in 2003, takes a close look into the lives of different families in the United States and how they are affected by race and social class and how their family lives differ. The Author, Annette Lareau, discusses how social class affects the parenting styles and how these parenting styles are affecting the children. Although Lareau’s book could use a few changes, it is well written and it is a good read to help better understand how social class and parenting styles can affect the lives of different children on a personal level. The purpose of this study, as well as the central argument, is very well addressed by Lareau in the text and leads to many well supported conclusions. Lareau’s main argument in the text is that when children grow up in certain environments, parents are more likely to use specific methods of child rearing that may be different from other families in different social classes. In the text, Lareau describes how she went into the home of the McAllisters and the Williams, two black families leading completely different lives. Ms. McAllister lives in a low-income apartment complex where she takes care of her two children as well as other nieces and nephews. Ms. McAllister never married the father of her two children and she relies on public assistance for income.

According to results, a parent’s approach to parenting is highly influenced by a family’s social and economic status and condition. The popularity of the disciplinary approach is mostly due to the challenges that a black family faces on a daily basis such as racism, discrimination, and poverty.
The first family that I interviewed fell into the Parenting Stage II: The Nurturing Stage. The couple, who are both 22-years of age, have been together for three years. They have been living together for about one year and are not married. The couple lives with the father's family: his mother and father. They are all from a Hispanic background. The father works as a computer technician and the mother is a supervisor at a bakery. There annual income is about $45,000. The couple recently had their first child together. They are the parents of a 5-week-old infant. My relationship to the couple is friendship, I used to work with the mother at the bakery but we are not that close of friends. This family has 3 major concepts that I found connected to parent-child relations:
This is when we need to step up and help the parent and the child so they don’t fall through the cracks of the education system. We need to increase parent involvement in each child education. Increasing parent involvement, begins with education the parents. Parents don’t realize or know how to get involved with their child’s education. There are many ways families can be involved in the education process. The parent is the child’s most valuable teacher for their whole life. The most benefit this will bring to the families is confidence. Teachers need to help the parents know that they can assist in their child’s education and can help them at home. There are workshops and training to help families get involved. The key is to offer incentives to the training to help increase the parent’s attendance, Communication is the one key with the parents. In today’s socially they are many ways to stay in contact with parents because of technology by email, text, or social media. Invite parent to come to the classroom and volunteer and see firsthand what a day look like for their child in the classroom. Have different events that will increase parents interest and eventually great participation. Another idea could be to send home activities that encourages family involvement. Parent involvement is one of the most influential aspects of student motivation. The parents are the initial teachers of the child before the child goes to school and encounters education through a teacher. If a parent is completely engaged in the learning process with a child, there can be growth between the child and the parent simultaneously. The parents set an example for the child, so that the child understands that help is in the classroom and at home. Alma Wright, a first and second grade teacher, believes that parents in the classroom are a good way to stimulate children. She says, “Their active participation is a positive influence. The school is open for parents to share their talents and motivate their children” (Drew, Olds, and Olds, 1974, p. 71).
To conclude, my research shows a clear link between parental involvement and children performing better in school. Children who's parents are involved in their education are showing better performance and are achieving higher grades. They also show better behaviour, more enthusiasm, ambition and higher levels of engagement. compared with children who's parent are not involved in their education. My research also shows that parental involvement has great benefits for both children and parents in many ways, so much so that the most effective schools are those who encouraged parents to be involved.
Recent studies on parental involvement in education have found that there are many benefits for both the student and the adult when parents become involved in their children’s education. Without parent support, it is very difficult for a child to be motivated. From what I have seen growing up, only a small percentage of students are self-motivated, so it is absolutely vital that parents assist in the motivation process. They have better grades, test scores, long-term academic achievement, attitudes and behavior than those with disinterested mothers and fathers (Gestwicki, 2001). Parents becoming involved in their child's schooling creates extra sources of social constraint to influence the child's behavior (McNeal, 2001). For example, parents talking to their children and becoming involved in the school conveys a message to the child of education being important. Parents should be talking with your children's teacher and letting her know about your family. The more she knows about your child, the better she will be able to connect with your child.
