Own The Podium (OTP) is a NFPO whose mission is to offer support to Canadian national sport organizations with goal of achieving improved podium performances at the Olympic and Paralympic games. After failing to win gold medals in the first two Olympic Games held in Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee created OTP with the vision to make Canada the world leader in high performance sports at the Olympics. OTP’s mandate includes “prioritizing investment strategies by making funding recommendations using evidence based, expert driven, targeted and collaborative approach. (CITE FS)” Most of the funds from OTP come from the Government of Canada (91%) and the remaining from the Canadian Olympic Committee (8%). The funds are used to achieve three main operational objectives of Podium Excellence, System Excellence and Sport Science and Research Excellence.
The chapter “Gain the High Ground” describes that there should be a relative or standing position of the person is society. A position of superiority must be ensured by an individual over his opponents. Attaining the status of being classic makes an individual superior over others and his acceptance level in the society ultimately increases with the passage of time. In order to gain the high ground, an individual must use negotiations in order to gain the intellectual and psychological superiority. The chapter further describes that high ground is being gained by an individual with the help of political and ethical parlance that basically refers to the status of remaining moral or getting respect from others. It upholds and adheres goodness and justice that is recognized as universally recognized standard. Parties or individuals who are seeking to attain high grounds always refuse to act in ways which are treated either as morally defensible or legitimate. In order to win a certain argument or produce a critique of something, an individual may use the perspective of “Gai...

This section of my research presents a brief summary of Vancouver Olympics as an event in terms of sustainability.
The article, Majority of COC staff exposed to Marcel Aubut harassment, discusses the experienced or saw sexual and personal harassment of COC staff members by Marcel Aubut, the former Canadian Olympic president. Both the experience and witness occurred within and outside the company’s doors, as well as among non-COC members while Aubut acted as a representative for the company. The Olympic Committee’s management was aware of these inhuman acts since 2008 but failed to be responsive. The company received many complaints from employees as well as other organization like VANOC about Aubut, but the company ignored the matters. Along with an apology for tardiness, COC’s president, Tricia Smith, promised to implement eight recommendations to allow

...and educate them. Some criticism was, however, centred around the fact that certain sports are not in favour of linking anti-doping compliance directly to public funding. Others have criticized the fact that the efforts of U.K. Sport, to inform and educate Governing Bodies about the policy, has had “patchy progress” (PMP Review, Appendix – Strengths and Weaknesses of Current System). Others have also helped cast light on the fact that several Governing Bodies have refused to understand, implement, and support the policy.
Ever since I can remember I have always had a fascination with sports. Every year the Olympics are on, or the World Cup, or the Super Bowl, or the NBA championships I am glued to the television. My favorite event in the Olympics to watch, of course, is track and field. Kenya and Ethiopia have become top contenders in long distance events. However, the ma...
Since drafting the first blueprint in 1972, Sperry/MacLennan’s architectural practice has experienced the high and lows of business economics as well as adapted to changes within its business dynamic and focus. Case in point in 1983, Sperry/MacLennan gained national recognition for winning a national competition for the aquatics facility for the Canadian Games held in Saint John (Aaker, Kumar, & Day, 2007, p. 73). With this win, the organization shifted its business focus to recreational facilities while gaining a renewed passion for the industry with the “innovative and new” possibilities, and challenges, recreational faculties provided (Aaker, Kumar, & Day, 2007, p. 73).
Winning in any sport you need the right players and coaches to fit into a certain system to accomplish the goal that you set out for yourselves. Before the Olympics began the USA were in search of a new coach and a new hope not to be a joke compared to other countries around the world. After the long interviewing process of attempting to hire a coach they finally w...
Sports, with their physical and competitive aspects, always have a way of charming people. The spectacular and grand sporting event like the Olympics is also included, as the Games are always hugely publicized and followed by many people around the world. Due to the Olympic Games being a gigantic event, it requires a carefully planned organization in order to ensure success, implicitly and explicitly. The organization of the Olympics is governed by the International Olympics Committee (IOC), who also construct, modify and refer to the Olympics Charter, a set of rules and guidelines for the Olympic Games, to make the Games to be fairer, more ethical, and more enjoyable to every party involved. In order to achieve such goal, according to the
It brings together the world's finest athletes to compete against each other in many individual and team sports.
One may disagree that hosting Olympics is not worthwhile as it requires a city or a country to bring out an enormous sum of money for the preparation and planning of hosting the Olympics. Zimbalist (2012, pp. 116) says that the summer Games roughly generates a total of $5-$6 billion and almost half of it belongs to the International Olympic Committee. On the other hand, the cost of the games has increased roughly
They want to create long term positive changes so that everyone can get access to sport, the employees and partners support communities in which all of us live in!
