The religious organization used to complete this report was the Our Lady of Fatima Church in Biloxi, MS. This church is a Catholic Church lead by Rev. Henry McInerney and Rev. Thomas White. I attended the 8:30 service on June 14, 2015. The church offer several different services to include Saturday night vigil masses at 4:00 PM and 5:30 PM, Sunday Masses at 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM. They also include services during the week, Monday through Friday at 6:20 AM and 8:30 AM. I will detail my experience as well as compare my experience with the church I used in my previous report, the New Life Family Church also in Biloxi, MS.
The architecture of the building is standard. The building itself looks very much like a church. It had the standard

This is a section of the mass unites the community properly prepared to hear God’s Word and celebrate the Eucharist (Explanation of the Mass, n.d). Rev. McInerney stands and says “In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” Everyone stand together and says “Amen” while making the sign of the cross. Rev. McInerney then leads the members in reciting the Penitential Rite and Gloria. Longtime members recite both with little effort, but the church provides a card, located on the back of the pew, that lists all of the prayers and responses on it. This is meant for those in attendance that are new to the …show more content…
The offertory hymn starts playing, while the offering baskets are past around. Meanwhile, Rev. McInerney washes his hands in preparation for communion. He is handed several chalices, wine and a container filled with bread. After he prays, about four or five members of the church join him on stage. Each one receives a white towel with a red cross embroidered on it, a chalice filled with wine and a container of bread. During this time the entire church is on their knees praying. Rev. McInerney recites “blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this bread to offer, which earth has given and human hands have made. It will become for us the bread of life” and “blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this wine to offer, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink.” The members respond with “Blessed be God
The church's architecture over all is simple. It is 24 by 34 square feet and set on a stone wall. It is a frontier style cabin and is made from hand hewn logs, which are notched at each end so that they fit together snugly at the corners. The roof is shingled...
· Hello – that is when the priest says welcome to the mass and tells
The offerings of bread , wine and other gifts are brought to the altar. The next section is the Eucharistic Prayer. The Communion is the fifth and probably the most important part of the Mass. It starts with the Lord's Prayer ( Paternoster ) and ends with the Communion for the Clergy and Congregation. Communion is where the gifts of bread and wine are blessed and then received.
That was the beginning of Our Blessed Mother at Fatima. She visited the children six times bringing them messages for the world. In all Her appearances at Fatima, Our Mother repeatedly emphasized the necessity of praying the Rosary daily, of wearing the Brown Scapular of Mount Carmel and of performing acts of reparation and sacrifice.
The image of the Virgin Mary seen by Juan Diego has changed the world. About forty years after Mary’s appearance to Diego, it is believed to be a turning point in western civilization. At this time there were a lot of copies of the painting of Our Lady of Guadalupe being circulated around Europe and one ended up in the hands of Admiral Giovanni Andrea Doria. The King of Spain gave this special copy to him. There were three hundred Turkish ships blocking the Gulf of Lepanto and the admiral was given command of a squadron to sail to the blockade. The Christian fleet consisting of about three hundred ships was to meet the Turkish navy head on. However, the Turkish outmaneuvered the Christian forces. It is said that when this crucial hour was at hand, Doria went into his cabin to kneel and pray before the Image of Guadalupe. By nightfall the direction of the battle started to shift. One Turkish squadron was defeated and captured causing the others to panic which lead to the destruction of the whole fleet. Fifteen thousand Christians that were enslaved in the Turkish galleys were freed. This battle marked the end of the Ottoman Empire’s expansion into the western Mediterranean.1
John Neumann Catholic church on Sunday with my friends. The outside of the church has a big cross hanged on top of the building, which is similar to all the Christian churches I saw before. Without mentioning this church is a catholic church, I would not be able to distinguish the difference between Christian and Catholic churches. When I first walked in the church, the interior was beautiful, but I was shocked when I saw a lady kneeling down pew kneeler. Then a group of people who were wearing whites vestment walked with a big cross on their hand, and there was one person who wore green vestment walked in the middle. The mass starts with a song, then a speech, then they talk about the book section. However, I have always heard the rumor that Catholics discourage Bible reading. This mass has proven this stereotype was incorrect. Catholics actually do read the bible and they also discuss about it during the mass. For the most of the time, they discuss the bible reading and sing. Also, as you can see in my Cultural Plunge picture #3, there is a photo of the mass schedule where listed the bible reading assignment for each mass. Towards the end of the ceremony, the priest told people to hold hands and pray, and they also ask everyone to introduce themselves to the people around them. Towards the end of the mass, there were people pass a basket around to collect money. I was a little to confuse about this process, but I believe this basket would be use for some good
Once the service started, my friend showed me where the schedule for the service was and what each number meant. There were different colors of numbers in the book and those indicated what section the reading or song was coming from. This was different from the church that I attend because we have a choir and a band that plays the songs and if you wish to join in you can but for the Catholic Church there is, no choir and the members of the church are the ones who sing. After some singing, the priest came up to talk and this is very different from what I expected. I was used to flipping through the channels and seeing the catholic churches with the priest who were a ...
I arrived at the destination of where the ritual observation was to take place at 9:45 a.m. on February 23, 2014. The ritual takes place in Brockville, Ontario in a building called the New Hope Brockville Tabernacle. The tabernacle is a large building that has a tower, also known as a steeple, erected on the roof. On the steeple is the symbol of the cross. The front doors opened up to a large foyer where the majority of the people inside were gathered in various small groups. These groups were composed of members similar in age. Everyone who entered through the doors was greeted with lots of hugs and welcomes.
The Lord's Prayer Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
When the time came for communion, everyone kneeled and waited for the priest to prepare the bread and wine. Christ’s blood was represented by wine and His body was represented by bread. Row by row, the people of the Catholic church received the body and blood of Christ. During this service, a variety of embodied forms of religious practices were
“And while they were at supper, Jesus took bread and blessed and broke and gave it to His disciples and said, "Take you and eat, this is my Body." And taking the chalice He gave thanks and gave it to them saying, "Drink you all of this. For this is my Blood of the New Testament which shall be shed for many unto remission of
At the funeral of Fulton Sheen the homilist spoke of Sheen’s devotion to a daily Holy Hour. Even on the last day of his life Sheen understood the importance of the Eucharist as “the most central sacrament of the Christian life” (Zia 53). The Eucharist is the only sacrament that is truly God Himself, not a symbol as most protestant Churches would believe, but, as Jesus repeated in the Bible, it is the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ. The Eucharist is at the core of the Mass, as “a true sacrifice that finds its proper celebration at the alter” (Zia 53).
The entire congregation stuffs themselves in the kitchen. The aroma of honey-glazed ham and macaroni salad fills the air. There's a large piece of the counter top reserved for my grama's famous iced tea that tastes perfect with everything from bacon-chicken casserole to the strawberry-pretzel desert. Soon after we have filled ourselves to the brim, we slowly
As I was attending mass, I noticed, it was very organized. There was a lot of sitting and standing, where I found myself struggling to understand. I noticed that they read some passages from the bible and sang a lot of psalms and hymns. The only thing that was familiar to me was the Eucharist.
I attended Mass at my local parish, the Parish of St. Francis de Sales, on Sunday, October 9th, in order to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist. This also happens to be the 28th Sunday of Ordinary Time because the priest of the parish, Father Phan, wore green in order to symbolize life, anticipation for the coming of Christ, and hope. The liturgical season of Ordinary Time is also significant because it focuses on the fruits of Jesus’s three-year public ministry, his educational parables, and his extraordinary miracles. The season of Ordinary Time also serves as a reminder that the Church’s mission, our mission, is to not only share the life and hope of Jesus
