When looking at Steve Jobs I would have to say that he was an exceptional man and there was not just one of the big five traits that he expressed. He was one of a kind person that had a lot of desirable traits that many others in the business world would love to have because of his dedication to his company as well as the feelings he made his employees feel in order that they could do what they thought was the impossible. First off I would have to say that he really expressed extroversion because he was able to talk well in front of people and wasn’t afraid to say what he was thinking while still reaching out to people. Jobs on the traits that he had I would have to say that he is expressing three of the five major traits that are needed to be a good organizational leader. He looks for the future of the company while still keeping little goals in mind that help to keep all of the employees up to date as well as keep them focused because they are being tested every day with things that they thought they could not do but somehow did. Jobs wasn’t just some person who let anyone do what they wanted he was stern and had his vision for the company and was a tough leader but as some of this past employees said they felt that it was a great opportunity for them to work with him while they could. He was stern but a good leader of the company. The last trait that he had would show that he always wanted thing done on time or before people that that they could get done which really helped the company because they were able to stay ahead of all the competition this way. All most all of the employees that worked under him talked about how they felt that it was an honor to work with him while they were able to, he might have been tough but he was always looking for the best. Not only did he look for the best in his products but he looked for the best in his employees. There were a lot of things that people thought they could not do but under the supervision of Jobs they were able to do extraordinary things. I would say that if Jobs was a nicer person and did not expect as much from his employees that the company would not have been as successful as it has been and it possibly would have failed before it even had a good chance to really get going again once he came in to save the company. Steve developed innovations and inventions in technology that were meant to benefit the people. He wanted to make technology accessible to everyone, so he made his tech smaller and cheaper. In addition to creating technology that helps us in more ways than one, is that he also donated large sums of his own money to charities. Jobs was a very private person and never mentioned philanthropic duties in the media (which lead to many criticising him) but did in fact donate $50 million to Stanford hospitals in California and funded HIV and AIDS research.

Steve Jobs was an incredibly successful individual. In his 2005 Stanford commencement speech and Steve Jobs: An extraordinary career, Jobs’ reveals the habits he put into practice to achieve his success. There are two habits Jobs’ utilized, be proactive and begin with the end in mind.
Dr. Sutton highlights what it takes to be a good boss. People that work for a good boss are 20 percent less likely to have a heart attack (Sutton, 2010). Dr. Sutton wrote that teams with stronger leaders cost the company less money and achieved their work better (Sutton, 2010). Engagement and performance of employees were based upon their direct boss and not if the company was good or bad (Sutton, 2010). Most bad bosses have employees who have check-out: actively disengaged, and undermine their co-workers accomplishments. Managers have to find the balance between performance and humanity to be successful. Performance is about doing everything possible to help followers do great work; while humanity is about employees experiencing dignity and pride. Treating managerial work as an endurance race instead of a sprint race with small wins will lead one to becoming a good boss called grit by Sutton. Sutton believes that good bosses walk a constructive line between being assertive and not assertive enough with guidance, wisdom, and feedback that he called Lasorda’s law (Sutton, 2010).
Steve Jobs was an exemplary leader. In the article it states, “Leaders can learn a lot from the late Apple CEO, but not all of it should be emulated.” In the speech it states, “And just last year, with the introduction of the IPad, Apple jumpstarted an entirely new product category that no one thought they could live without.” Both the article and the speech are recognizing Jobs as being an exemplary leader. The article is saying that jobs leadership style should be studied but not imitative. The speech recognizes his product the IPad and says that, with its introduction it started a brand new category that Jobs led. Jobs leadership style was very much complex. Jobs was focus this is part of why his products have become some of the most treasured in history. He picked a necessity, industrialized a product, and spent his energy finalizing the product. To become a truly effective leader, one must encapsulate the various behaviors related to the aforementioned course learnings in his/her persona and demonstrate such behaviors daily. This course has allowed me to identify four behaviors that all leaders must portray to be effective. The first of which is that a leader must be inspirational. To do so, a leader must set the appropriate vision and direction for the organization and provide a path to achieving defined goals. Additionally, a leader must induce the proper levels of motivation so that each employee has sufficient incentive to work towards the organization’s goals. As discussed in the class, motivation can be accomplished by factors such as rewarding hard work and providing the correct opportunities to employees. While these are motivating in that employees desire to be fairly compensated and to be doing work they deem valuable, inspiration comes more from organizational culture. A leader will be inspirational by setting a tone that appreciates each employee’s contribution, no matter how small in scale it is. Further, employees are inspired when they work collaboratively in a group setting and can capitalize on individual strengths to drive organizational goals.
Steve’s eye for the beauty within technology and his passion for the user experience are they key factors to Apples success. Steve jobs had a rather unique and controversial leadership style that was highly scrutinized by his board of directors as wells as his employees, but ultimately led to the companies success. Jobs leadership could be defined by saying he used the Relational Leadership Model or the Transformational Leadership Model, or even the Great Man Leadership Model, but the truth was that Steve Jobs did not fit into just one of these model. Jobs had a philosophy and leadership style that was authentic and indecent which caused a great deal of friction within Apple. Jobs was known for scourging his employees, working them to death, and then throw them away when he was done with them.
